Yes they went astray with the information thinking a dead body or a bomb would be found! And there is so much more to that Sierra club card. Whew that's defeating. But it's better they try and probably keep trying so that route gets ruled out and they can readjust to a new focus in the investigation oh that's gotta be tough that's so much hard work. I think the DNA testing will clear Waterson. We have yet to find out where exactly they are in the process of Zodiacs full genetic profile news should be soon people kept saying early June. 

There should be "touch-DNA" available using new technology (likely through Parabon labs) eventually from the pieces of shirt of Paul Stines.  If you have the chance you should watch "The Killing Fields" season 3 wherein they obtained touch-DNA from two places on a 20-years-unsolved-murder victim's undergarments plus a rag the perp wiped his hands on found lying under her body.  This is the same technology they're likely using to lift DNA out of the envelope/stamp glue. 


But, it took the Holes team four months to track the family tree(s) to JJD after they got the Gedmatch-es.

It's interesting that Mageau described the assailant as 5'8 and at Berryessa he was described as close to 6'. Was the angle Mageau saw him at while he was on the ground? Just odd that there would be a 4'difference. Maybe the dark affected Mageau's perception?

Eyewitness reports are notoriously unreliable. Without some fixed reference point (like a height chart) present, multiple witnesses are likely to report a spectrum of height possibilities in any short, random, unexpected, stressful encounter with a total stranger. Average witness-reported height for the EAR was 5'8'' but when caught, JJD was almost a half-foot taller than that.

Mageau was also seeing the assailant from the vantage of a 4" high or so car window, in poor light. Hartnell and Seapard were witnessing Z from the vantage point of two "picnickers" on the ground, in an open area surrounded by tall trees, in the daytime. These kinds of differences in fixed reference points can give witnesses varying subjective views on a subject's height.

A little ironic that Darlene Ferrin lived in Albany for a short time too, of which Sullivan may have some connection.

Another odd coincidence is Cecelia Shepherd went to college at UC Riverside right around the time Sullivan was at RCC. Could he have known her somehow and later tracked her in SF when he moved up there?

When I joined this board, after years of reading Zodiac boards, I can’t tell you how frustrated I was at the lack of named suspects. With Zodiac, we had names of genuine suspects like Gaik, ALA, Kane, Rick Marshall, etc; here, we would be banished if we mentioned the name of a POI’s pet turtle.

Well the zodiac isn't caught, and most of those named suspects are deceased already. Those who aren't usually don't get named or sometimes renamed.

When I joined this board, GSK hadn’t gotten caught either. The crimes were relatively close in time, so one would expect a similar mortality rate among the POI in each respective case. All of the suspects I named are dead, but most were known suspects when alive. ALA and Rick Marshall in particular were widely known Z suspects while still alive. I found it weird when I joined here that there wasn’t one named suspect, alive or dead! Anyway, it wouldn’t have mattered since JJD was on no one’s radar. I wonder if the Z case will be the same.

Even ALA was renamed in stuff like Graysmiths first book. No one really wants to name out living suspects, with good reason.

Not sure why you are debating this, but here are interviews with ALA and Rick Marshall respectively. Of course, the interviews are regarding their status as Z suspects. They both appear to be alive during the interviews.

I never mentioned Greysmith’s book. My original post merely stated that there were named Z suspects WHEN I STARTED RESEARCHING Z. Suspects who where known suspects even when they were alive. That was not the case when I got into GSK. POI were protected on this board in a way they were not on Z boards. That’s all I was saying.

Back to the topic though, Ross Sullivan has been my favorite suspect for years. Of course I am troubled by a few things. I understand he seemed a bit large for Z. I don’t like that he flipped out and started acting crazy with the guy in the phone booth (I don’t see Z as a nut job). And I know we have no idea if Sullivan was anywhere near the area where the crimes occurred. I get all of that, but I truly believe that Z killed CJB. And when you combine his ties and proximity to that murder with what we do know about Sullivan, including how he looks like the sketch, he just makes the most sense to me of all of the known suspects.

Gaikowski looks like an equally intriguing guy to Sullivan, as he was in Albany at the same time as Darlene, and may have been the 'Richard' she mentioned to Mageau.
