Eggirl,
I could have sworn I heard it that way the first time I heard the mention of the therapist, but I was mistaken. Yesterday they replayed it again and after Willick described finding shoe prints outside around his house, he then said that "awhile later" he learned that JJD had talked to a therapist about having come to Willick's house to harm Willick.
The term "awhile later" is somewhat indefinite, but would imply to me a time frame much sooner than "years later." Sorry for the confusion. I agree with your other points, but I would like to see an independent commission set up to investigate the LE response to the ONS/EAR series of crimes.
I think the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department is where such a commission should focus on first. Most of the rapes and some of the murders and attempted murders took place in their jurisdiction, and over an extended period. JJD was arrested in their area twice. Their spokesman discounted the Visalia Ransacker/EAR connection and called the Visalia PD irresponsible for making public claims about such a connection.
I think such a commission should focus on policing rates, SCSD leadership, investigative techniques, policies, internal communications, etc. I really think the failure to capture JJD goes much deeper than one individual such as Chief Willick from another PD not making the connection of JJD being connected to the Visalia and Sacramento area crime sprees.
I think it is natural to seek answers and to assign blame where appropriate, but I don't want to see Chief Willick made a scapegoat for the SCSD's failure to catch JJD. Chief Willick was trying to clean up his PD by firing JJD and didn't make the bigger connection. That still doesn't explain why the SCSD was so unsuccessful.
I wish you all the best and hope that JJD'S arrest and confinement brings you some measure of relief. I've read your posts the last few months and have always valued the perspective you have brought to the board and admired your willingness to share your thoughts and feelings about the case.
