He just didn't get it.

Plus, Blaine/Goldcatcher is your main source of info?! A homeless crazy person? If Blaine told Tom to wrap his head in tinfoil, would Tom have have dutifully followed direction?

That was totally disillusioning and so I stayed away from his site for a few years and developed other interests in the True Crime sphere, like EAR.

I still have my VHS copy of the compilation of Z-related video footage that Tom sent to me in 2002. I wish he hadn't gotten sidetracked by Gaik, because in my eyes - and in the eyes of a lot of other Z sleuths I've talked to - TOm and his site lost a lot of credibility when he hitched his entire operation to that particular wagon.

But what made it so much worse was when Tom would get super-piisssyy at his own forum members if they'd deviate from the "Gaik is Z" gospel, or if they'd try to explain that, hey, that one ad in the back of that one issue of Good Times doesn't mean what you think it means, Tom. He seemed to get angrier and much more arrogant during that 2008-2010 period when he just seemed to be addicted to proselytizing the Gospel of Gaik. He brooked no doubters. That was a mistake.

I still have no earthly idea why he went so hard down that road. He just put on blinders and charged straight into a wall. So many other interesting suspects could have been occupying the real estate Gaik took up during that time.

I still go to his site every few days or so just to see if there are any new DNA developments or new interesting suspects, but I stay away from the Gaik section of the site. He used to have the absolute BEST Z site imaginable, but he squandered its credibility and potential to chase the ghost of a hippie.

Just a quick story: I attended a get-together in South Lake Tahoe of Zodiologists on the 40th anniversary of Donna Lass's disappearance. At the end of the meeting, several of them were going to Larry Kane's residence nearby to confront him. I realized that this was an awful idea and passed: either they would be confronting an innocent old man OR they were going to be face-to-face with the Zodiac Killer - neither prospect was something I wanted to be a part of. (Apparently he was not at home when they knocked on his door.)

100 percent agree with this. I used to read his forum but never registered for the same reason. It seems to me that he wants so badly for G to by the Zodiac just so he can say he is the one that solved it. That's how it came off to me anyways. Glad to find a Zodiac forum here. There are so many suspects, each with a good amount of circumstantial evidence that it can get confusing. One day you are leaning to one suspect than the next day you think it's someone else. Crazy to me that there was never a conviction and we still do not know who it is 50 years after the murders started. Actually longer than 50 years if you consider the Cheri Jo Bates Riverside murder a Z hit.

I don't see any reason to believe he's a good guy. Even if there's no reason to attack or abuse profanity, Tom Voigt goes there anyway. He has no semblance of special ability or insight yet is arrogant in every post. Most laughable of all are his posts on reddit, where he can't stand that he's not in charge and unable to ban people. It's like a juvenile lunatic. There are a few guys who rip him unmercifully and you can tell that Voigt is beyond livid that he can't cut them off. He responds with stuff that is not much above, "I know you are...but what am I?"

His site was at peak in the 2002-2006 range, IMO. I thought it was already declining in 2007 but the movie release saved it for a while. Then as someone else posted he fell off the nutcase cliff in 2008.

This is a website I found that compiles a great amount of documentation on Kane. Some of it you've seen before if you've read about him, others possibly not. There's some interesting material on his early life, dating starlets and stealing jewels. There are also documents that show his whereabouts at certain times. Kane had brain injuries from a catastrophic work accident. Could have caused a limp.
