If the killer struck Thursday night, there'd have been Friday & Saturday during which the car wasn't reported having been seen on tbe hill. It was reported Sunday. Sometimes, people see things that look odd but they don't assume it's sinister because they don't really think about possibilities other than "oh, someone's car is on the hill." Nobody who wasn't in the in the non-military/government world was using cellular technology then, so if anyone saw the car, they'd have also had to remember to report it after getting home/to a phone.
Watermen may not have been in that area Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. If they were Gloucester watermen, maybe they didn't want to fool with making a long-distance call to Yorktown after they got home exhausted at the end of a long day. Maybe the watermen didn't have a phone book and didn't want to call information. Some watermen in those days were barely beyond living rough; some had old, brokedowm trailers with holes in the floor and might not have had a phone.
My point, I guess, is that sometimes people don't report things they should, because tbey don't spend the time thinking that something could be really wrong.
The FBI lifted 150 latent finger/palm or partial prints from outside & inside the car... no matches yet. Cathy's driver side window had been reported to be partially down, we have no LE report saying that the rain had entered the open window and gotten the vehicle wet inside. LE found diesel fuel was still on the outside of the car as well as inside... Also diesel fuel was still found several feet away from outside the car on the grass as if the car had been doused in 1 spot then pushed over the embankment. The "matches" that LE found near the diesel fuel on the ground at the scene, they never mention that any of them had ever been wet. So the rain must not have been very much, during those 3 days, since LE still found all these clues but never mentioned any water damage to any of this evidence. The lack of any mention of rain influence/damage on any of these "Items" LE found gives a strong suggestion that Cathy's car had not been on the Parkway for the whole 3 days they were missing or at least not on any day it was raining. I recall in the "weather conditions the night of the murders" thread, someone posted the Yorktown weather conditions on the Sunday the car was found, it hadn't rained.
The turnoff/outlook where Cathy's car was found was very scenic overlooking a great view of the historic York river. It is part of the National Park Service's Colonial National Historical Park... so I'm betting that many people stopped at that turnout, during the 3 days the victims were missing, to get out of their vehicles to stretch and go to the edge of the embankment to get a great view or take a picture of the river.
Heck I know when ever I drive too & park at a historic scenic location I never get out of my car to enjoy any of it... really??
IMO Cathy's car was not on the parkway for 3 days without being seen, it was dumped there the day it was found.
