Perhaps it was a sort of taunt. After all, the guy doing the killings is a serial killer; they like to stalk, kill, set up scenes, all the while making sure they do as much as they can to avoid being caught, because to avoid being caught is part of what they enjoy. I think that the Colonial Parkway killer was similar to other serial killers in that he was likely also making sure to leave conspicuous clues behind so that it would spark further investigation, which he could then enjoy as well. Would it have been enough for him to leave the car in a regular parking space, or was he concerned about security cameras or others in the parking lot, closer to the building?

I wonder: If he was using the roach clip as a taunt, was he doing that because he thought marijuana morally wrong, or just because he thought it funny?

What if the roach clip was used as a taunt because it could lead police right back to him if they only knew he sold them some pot? Didn't Anna Marie write down someone's name and description of a vehicle? A blue van? I have a theory that a pot (marijuana) dealer could have been the last person to see the victims alive. He sold them what they wanted and then he followed them? None of the victims would have told anyone or wanted anyone to know they were going to buy pot. That works in favor of the dealer if he was also the killer. Did the dealer double as a wannabe cop or perhaps a cop or wannabe cop was another person who was watching the dealer and followed the buyers? Knowing they had just bought the marijuana they would have just figured they were busted when they saw the police lights behind them. It may have made them more cooperative when told police were watching them when they made the purchase? Just being good people and owning up to their mistakes, I think they would have done exactly what they had been taught. Own up to your mistakes and always respect and cooperate with the police. That's all the killer would have needed to get them under control. But at some point they knew something wasn't right but by then it was too late. I know it is just speculation but I wanted to get your thoughts.

Anything is possible, I reckon. But I don't think that a serial killer would double as a drug dealer; it would be really risky because he could end up making a sale to a cop, get busted, and stand a chance of being found out for murders. Too much to chance.

It's more likely that he found the roach clip in the kids' belongings, or maybe they offered him a hit, but I could be wrong.

That's a very strong theory.  It shows just how devious the killer was.  Sell a couple pot, follow them, then pull them over.  It makes sense.

It is risky, but so is murdering two kids.

Also, despite that it's risky behavior, the only witnesses would be killed.

It is risky but just think about it. He only does it once/twice a year.  Makes me think he could very well be a hunter. If you hear one gun shot in the woods it is often difficult to locate exactly where it came from. So we wait for the second shot and listen. But it never comes. One attack per year is what gave him the edge.

Anything is possible, I reckon. But I don't think that a serial killer would double as a drug dealer; it would be really risky because he could end up making a sale to a cop, get busted, and stand a chance of being found out for murders. Too much to chance.

It's more likely that he found the roach clip in the kids' belongings, or maybe they offered him a hit, but I could be wrong.

I often think that someone working for the Security Co. that officed from a motel kept eyes on a drug dealer who also officed at the motel.

The thing is, the killer probably wasn't looking to get his thrills by selling weed. If he was going to risk getting caught, he'd have been more likely to use the risk killing. Remember, the guy is/was a serial killer, not your typical person.

There's a reason why killers like him plot and scheme as they do. To get caught would ruin their fantasy life, their control, and screw up their means to satisfy the drive to kill. They can't do multiple murders in prison.

Just because one item was present in one scenario doesn't mean the killer was suddenly a weed dealer. Do you think he posed as a weed dealer to Becky and Kathy? I don't think so. Keith and Sandra? Unlikely.

Something else: if he was dealing weed, he would have had a network he worked with...if he then killed his customers, he'd have been at greater risk of exposure. If he was just going around killing people, nobody else had to know about it.

David's and Robin's autopsy reports said  neither of them had any drugs in their systems.  Before the autopsies were done, one of the detectives theorized that the couple was at Ragged Island to score weed but then the dealer wanted to have sex with Robin, which made the drug deal go bad and the dealer ended up killing them. the dealer.  I can't remember the name of that detective, but when It comes to mind I will post it here.

When I first read that I thought, no wonder these crimes didn't get solved back then......

This theory is plausible. 

Hanging the roach clip, could could have been to point the investigators to a pot dealer.  Why would detectives then think they wete followed by a third party? The trail would stop at the pot dealer.
