I cannot imagine the trauma of living through a horrific attack and then living with the fear afterward. I wouldn’t even begin to assume that I can imagine it. The best thing for everyone is to know as much truth as possible at this time. Please consider that there are most likely no better sources of information than Joe’s family members right now. Consider also the pain this may be causing them. An uncle who you looked up to, was a cop, took you out to do cool things most any teenaged boy would have loved doing in the 1970s. Then you find out what else your uncle was doing and have to wonder, how did I not see it? It’s awful for everyone Deangelo violated and deceived.

But for those wanting the truth Bassman is here to help and nearly two years into this ordeal I am sure he as much as anyone would like this whole thing to reach its most just end. It is all exhausting. To think about it everyday, to wonder. He is here to help and DNA is not the residence of guilt, guilt resides in the conscious and stains the soul and the soul is eternal. DNA is just a physical medium, is transient, is constantly turned over and decays, is not unique to individuals, is merely a template, it is not eternal and therefore not a medium for guilt. A person cannot be considered guilty because they share partial DNA sequences with another person. Do you throw the pan of cookies you did not burn into the trash with the ones you did burn just because you used the same cutter to shape them? I have a cousin who stole and raped. Should I be declared guilty?

For those here on this board to seek truth Bassman is our best source right now. He is sticking his own neck out here for us and that is never a comfortable thing to do. Please, can we treat him with the respect all truth seeking individuals deserve here? If you want to be skeptical that is okay but please find a way to share your skepticism in a respectful manner.

bassman, I’ll appreciate anything you choose to share from your experience. No matter what, it must be difficult. As he did for a lot of people, the EAR influenced the environment I grew up in. Eight year old kids were asking their parents, “what does rape mean?” I suspect he or someone associated with him ransacked my house and stole the contents of my piggy bank.

What you have shared already reinforces my belief that a man who I met in 1979 along the American River was Joe DeAngelo. The guy seemed like an avid outdoors type with Eagle Scout skills on a 20” bmx type Schwinn stingray which he seemed too old to be riding. He proposed the he and another kid who I was with and I “start a bike club.” I wonder if you and your friends were into building and riding bmx bikes and if your uncle picked the style up from you.

In 78 he didn't even own a bike. He had three motorcycles. If he started riding bike's it would have been 79 and i didn't know anything about it. Never seen a bike at his home at all. Not saying he didn't ride at some point just not that i was aware of. Helped him move in 83 no bike.

Did he have a storage unit somewhere that you may have visited with him for whatever reason?

Was Joe on good terms with his brother throughout his life or was it a rocky relationship?

They didn't see to much of each other. When they did i believe they got along like most brothers would or should. When they were young i don't have any ideal.

Thank you for answering. This may be a lot to ask, and thank you for entertaining questions, but is there any stories you can share that were hard for you to explain at the time of them happening but now (after Joe being arrested) they make sense to you?

Although things got off to a rocky start, I don’t see any evidence of bassman doing anything to intimidate specific people. At this moment, he is following the rules of the board. If something changes then feel free to PM the mods.

As we be noted re Bassman, we have no confirmation of his identity so it’s up to you to decide the veracity if his claims.

Similarly, you claim to be a victim, if you have spoken to another mod about your background that is fine but just like with Bassman I have no confirmation of your claim.

This isn’t Facebook: you got a problem either work it out with the person or PM the mods , but lashing out like this ( by either party) isn’t okay.

Here goes a question:

You mentioned if Joe started riding bikes or owning bikes in 1979, you wouldn’t have known. Did you have much communication with Joe during this time? Also, was the family aware Joe was no longer a Police Officer when he was fired? And how did you find out?

I think you mentioned DeAngelo may have had his own place in Irvine at some point. (Around 80/81?)

Very little is known about his whereabouts during these years. If you helped him move from one place to another in 1983, can you possibly say where he was living and where he moved to?

From 79 on i did not go up north other then one time. He came to exeter 4 to 6 times a year. We got together every time. He had told me he lost his job LE and how at the same time he told my grandmother. Moved from down south to up north. Not sure what city down south.
