Plenty of women realise that their husbands are a bit weird, kinky or perverted without suspecting them as serial killers.

You are right. I was wrong to compare this case to the Canadian Colonel case. In the Canada case the culprit did indeed have many bags of women's clothing in the house. He also had a lot of photos and movies. At this point we don't know exactly how many mementos JJD had stashed in the home.  It's possible Sharon had no knowledge but being a lawyer she would be more likely to figure it out than some of the other serial killer wives, who had no legal background.

This is tangential to JJD, but I recall the wife being one of (many) pieces of leverage the interrogator used against the colonel. I assumed at the time I watched it it was feelings of guilt, shame. decorum, etc (no longer recall any specifics), but it’d be interesting if a second viewing would lend itself to a more nefarious interpretation...

I do want to note, though, that in the vast majority of intimate relationships “guy has bags of women’s clothes” isn’t going to yield “guy is a serial rapist/murderer” in another party’s mind. I don’t know the details or what else was involved, but (more relevant to JJD) aside from the obvious friction such a discovery would cause— and there was enough friction, in whatever form, for JJD and Sharon to separate— there are plenty of explanations that are both far more palatable and far more likely

Well, this is like everything else in this case: "maybe we'll find out some day."  Right now nobody is talking to the press, evidently. Maybe when the trial is over about five years from now, we will find out some of this stuff.

The Canadian Colonel is locked up, but his wife did get hit with civil suits. One of the victims sued for seven million dollars. There was a settlement.

I don't presume to know what kind of relationship Russell Williams had with his wife, but if she knew him at all, she knew that he was "jogging" in all the areas that these rapes took place. I think it's possible that he married her only for appearances' sake, since he was rising in rank in his military career and needed to "apparently" be married. She had her own career and still does.
