Came across a video one day of a Deep Purple concert from the 80s and who should come out to jam with the band but the coolest guy in Rock n Roll George Harrison. I learned after that Jon Lord was a huge Beatle fan and became close friends with Harrison. Never realized DP & the Beatles had a connection of any sort. Then I found this - and its really, really good!
Don't know what era you came of age in, but disco will always be anathema tp me. I had a 'Disco Sucks" belt buckle in Jr High. Unlistenable trash to my young ears. This was one of the biggest disco hits ever, made Gloria Gaynor a wealthy lady and became a staple on karaoke night for drunk girls.
If I had never heard Cake before, that would’ve been even more painful. Lol. Knowing their sound gave me some forewarning. I can definitely envision a tone-deaf dude on his ninth Bud Light tripping all over that one in front of his buddies.
We are probably around the same age as I won Chic’s Le Freak album at an eighth-grade Valentine’s dance! Not a fan of disco as a whole, but would definitely take it over some of the stuff trying to be passed off as music nowadays. Even the dance stuff of the 80s showcased a lot more musical and lyrical talent than the incoherent ramblings I excruciatingly have to endure at most high school basketball games. 🙄🤯
There is no "original" version as it's a traditional Irish folk song that dates back to at least the 1700s. Sometimes the girl is Molly, but usually its Jenny. Either way she did her man wrong - brutal!
The first RnR version was by one of Metal's great originators, Ireland's own Thin Lizzy, fronted by Rock Legend Phil Lynott who was born and raised in Dublin.
The song is a staple of Irish bands. Here's how it usually sounds, (with the lyrics cause its a great story):
phillycheesesteak: thank you to whatever mod approved me...time to eat a cheesesteak and read old theories

phillycheesesteak: hmmmm in the attack where he took the girl to the canal on his wedding anniversary...he told her he had to wait for his parents to leave. Sharons parents lived off the canal across greenback lane. Wondering if he was talking about Sharons parents?

elroacho: WTF...looking at james chadwell's facebook page, is he taking a photo of himself in a mirror? is that the same likeness of his tattoo of the girl but outside under a tree on his phone case?

elir: The guy is a very disturbed individual. So glad they were able to save the 9 year old from almost certain death. Hope he is going away for a long time.

elir: Anyone watch Very Scary People episode on GSK? JayB130 thought the interview with the babysitter was interesting. I have not been able to watch it yet. Hoping to get the time later this week.

JayB130: "Very Scary people" is definitely worth watching just for the interview of his daughters babysitter. She provided some new info.
May 8, 2021 3:24:09 GMT
JayB130: She gave an interview to a news magazine but I can't recall off hand which magazine out was. I'll have to look up the article. But, she provided more info in the "Very Scary People" episode.

JayB130: I found it. The original interview of JJD's daughters' babysitter 9Here you go
May 8, 2021 3:28:30 GMT
JayB130: Sorry for all the messages. I'm on a cellphone at work

johnnyhands1: Good link JayB130, gives the hours info for the babysitting times, " a few hours in the evenings, but never overnight" and "when the girls were 6 to 8 years old" (the late eighties?)
May 8, 2021 15:49:40 GMT
elir: something odd about that interview. "DeAngelo was divorced, Jeannie and Bob said, and his two daughters were about 6 to 8 years old at the time their daughter looked after the children" but joe had 3 daughters
May 9, 2021 2:57:45 GMT
elir: where was daughter #3?
May 9, 2021 3:00:08 GMT
johnnyhands1: Maybe the youngest 3rd daughter was with SH and/or family. Or, was the oldest daughter with relatives, friends or evening activity. Oldest maybe babysitter at other times, with neighbors unaware. Neighbor girl might even know all this, but wasn't asked.
