Paul Holes solved the Al Kite murder but the killer has yet to be apprehended. He has been traced to relatives in Romania but he may be in Turkey or some other country and possibly being protected by terrorists. Wherever he is people are not safe. He is not just a killer, he is a torturer. Could he still be in this country? Paul Holes Program "The DNA of Murder" is excellent. I was blown away by this episode about the Al Kite murder, episode 5, season 1. There are many more details and I am only giving the basics here. (By the way Episode 1 of season 1 he solved another murder and it was fascinating to see how he followed the clues and did it with the help of the fabulous Yolanda McClary.)
Al Kite':
Dates:
April 30, 2004? (Friday, 3 weeks before the murder) Linda, Al’s girlfriend, arrived while he was showing the apartment to someone using the name Robert Cooper.
He rushed past her and didn't say hello.
May 18, 2004, Tuesday, the renter/murderer, Robert Cooper (fake name) gave Al a deposit, Al gave him a key.
May 22, 2004, Monday, Al was murdered but discovered on May 24, 2004, when he didn’t show up for work.
Robert Cooper had visited several other places for rent. A woman renting a town home met him and immediately her hairs stood on end. She got rid of him fast. She taught Romanian at Denver University and she noted a slight Romanian accent.
(Kym Morgan was last seen with a man that was described as having a Mediterranean appearance.)
Al was horrendously tortured for hours, and nearly decapitated. (Kym Morgan dismembered and decapitated)
Al placed an ad that he had a room for rent. It was a very tiny room in Al’s basement. (Kym Morgan placed an ad for a room in exchange for light housecleaning.)
The killer used Al’s own knives, but there was also a wooden rod and the key that was given to Cooper –all were found in the kitchen sink in bleach. (He was seen with a cane once and it was speculated there might have been a knife or sword in the cane.)
He removed some items of evidence from the scene (the rope and some other things).
The killer stole Al’s truck and debit card, drove it to the Wells Fargo ATM. There is an image of him at the ATM and he knew he was on surveillance camera but he had gloves on, and a ski (I’m nor sure but it looks like maybe he was wearing glasses.) He didn't draw out that much money. Money was not the motive.
Description: Al's girlfriend just saw the side of his face and his back. She said he had black, curly hair, was not overweight, and in his late 30’s to early 40’s. He had a cane in his right hand, was very well dressed.
Other descriptions: 40’s 180 lbs, dark hair 5’8”.
:between 35 and 52.)
Fake Limp: Some reported he limped, then he didn’t, indicating it was a fake limp.
Cane: He used a cane at least once. (there is speculation that perhaps the cane contained a knife or a sword).
HUGE MISTAKE: One drop of blood, single source, from an unknown male was found on the carpet of the stairs. He has been traced to the Baltic region and his relatives have been located.
Here are the dates and locations of crimes I think may be related crimes:
April 28, 1985, Kym Morgan, Santa Barbara: put ad in paper looking for free room and board in exchange for babysitting. She went to meet a man “and his kids” at the County Lumber parking lot. Her car was found in the parking lot and she was eventually found dismembered and decapitated on Camino Cielo a road above Santa Barbara. ) Description, he was said to look Mediterranean.
UPDATE: Mike Emert's murder has been solved. I've updated it in a thread below.
Jan 4, 2001: Mike Emert, Seattle, Washington: (real estate agent, he was lured and stabbed multiple times. No motive other than murder. Left in tub with water running apparently in an effort to get rid of evidence. Killer carried a cane and walked with a limp. It’s thought the limp was fake because how could a crippled man take down young, healthy Mike. Was there a knife hidden in the cane?
So: The killer used real estate to lure Mike to a remote home, and the fake limp and cane, also the use of water to flood and wash away evidence somewhat similar to using bleach to get rid of evidence. Did he learn as time went on. Used water in 2002, and bleach in 2004?
May 22, 2004 Al Kite, Aurora, Colorado
The sketch of the man Kym Morgan met and the sketch of the murderer of Al Kite look very similar to me and I think they are the same. Kym's killer appears younger which would be correct since she was murdered in 1985 and Al was murdered in 2004 (19 years later.)
