Crompton did a terrible thing when he wrote that crap about victims.
He did a good thing when he helped link the EAR and the ONS crimes.
Both things about him are true.
He still has the opportunity to take some steps toward atoning for the one that isn't good. He can make edits to his written material. He can apologize to the victims.
There is no excuse for not doing so. The victims might not want to hear his apologies, but he should make them anyway. There are other victims out there who will hear them.
These kinds of hurtful and inappropriate statements hurt more than just the people immediately involved.
And steps taken to atone touch more than just the people immediately involved.
There are a lot of apologies that need to be made to victims regarding books written and how police departments neglected/misrepresented victims --- which we have heard from these victim impact statements (it really seems like a thing); The KID, Bully Jensen and Patton need to do their part also if they were stand up dudes.
I wonder what Carol Daly thinks about Larry? Crompton trying to get/getting the Cosmos and Winters book off Amazon is really really strange behavior since it is the best book out there about the case and could have possibly led to something (you would think people would want this book out so that maybe it might result in a capture).
All very salient points that needed to be said. Thank you both.
I was not aware, until listening to Jen Carole's Vlog today, that Larry and that Ann Penn lady had been involved with getting Kat Winters book taken off of Amazon. I was aware of the passage about Sunny (Michelle) and the history of her posting here. I really do try to believe the best in people and their intentions, until I'm proven wrong in my assumptions.
Larry does owe Sunny (Michelle) an apology for his characterization of her in the book. When I read it 8-9 years ago it was cringeworthy but my thought was 'old guy mentality'. Hearing the pain it has caused her really does affect a body though. Someone should try and get Larry on record about this topic. I think (hope) he would be apologetic – for all we know he has reached out to her privately. Although it doesn't sound like it.
Big time kudos to all of the victim impact statements. I was very moved today by Michelle Cruz. But these are all strong individuals. They are truly inspirational in light of the fact that JJD darkened their life's door.
