You can't just pay for half your attorney's fees... That's not the way it works. You have to be able to pay for all of it or else you *qualify* for a court appointed attorney. Also, why would someone that probably knew the deck was heavily stacked against him, with the DNA match and all, that knew he probably would eventually be pleading guilty.... Blow millions on a useless defense? It seems he really cared about his daughters so I can absolutely see JJD thinking to himself and going "You know, I'm busted here. I can't find a video of the December 6, 2018 hearing where then-Judge Sweet saying he might rule in the future for Deangelo to pay for his defense, but for now (Dec. 6, 2018) he could keep his public defenders.

I checked to see where JJD is today and the CDCR site says current location is not available. hmm.....

JJD could be anywhere in the correctional system for all we know. He may still be at Corcoran Prison, but due to increased attention to this case, the correctional system may have decided to make his whereabouts unknown. Another possibility is JJD and/or his family may have even requested it (although I do not know if such a request is even possible).

It is also possible that he is ill and was transferred out to a hospital. They would not be able to list his current location due to medical privacy laws and security reasons, if this is the case.

For example, Charles Manson was at Corcoran Prison and had gastrointestinal bleeding. He was then transferred to Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield for treatment. After he returned to the prison, he then had to go out again for a hospital stay. It was never disclosed where his final stay (until his death) was, due to state and federal medical privacy laws and security reasons.
