And unlike some people, if a POI, suspect or theory does not pan out or new evidence discredits it, he usually puts it on the back burner. In fact we don't always agree on suspects but still manage to get along and sometimes even work together.

Morf your statement about having much more success with the federal agencies as opposed to local authorities rings true. I just updated the Afraid letter thread with news of my latest request to city and state agencies. I think it is very likely that Sacramento PD, Sacramento SD and the city homicide detectives in the ONS murders made requests for assistance to the FBI for letter analysis, fingerprints, DNA and other things.

Let's talk through PM'S on ZKS. Perhaps I can give you some suggested langauge on what types of items and documents the FBI might have in the EAR/ONS case and the Maggiore murder of a USAF man thought to probably be done by EAR. Perhaps I can induce you to do a federal FOIA to the FBI and USAF CID, which you have had great success at in the past. Well you said you wanted to get involved, so I'm dragging you in!

Well, I've been lurking for long enough so I might as well say hello.

I'm a poster at a number of crime boards as well as on Reddit. My first introduction to the EAR-ONS came during my early research into the Zodiac Killer and have only recently begun delving into this terrifying case. I appreciate the resources available on this board as well as the passion and tenacity of many in the community. Like most of you, I hope for this killer to be identified and prosecuted.

Hi Everyone:

I've been following this board since it started so I feel like I already know some of you.  Drifter...I have to say that you are awesome, man!  Way to go moderating all of this.  So, I first found out about EAR/ONS years ago when I was living by myself in Orange County. I happened to watch the EAR/ONS Cold Case episode one night and at the end of the show when they said, "If anyone has any information as to the whereabouts of the EAR/ONS please call the hotline at......", I just about had a heart attack and I've been freaked out ever since!  Also, I was shocked when the next day at work no one, including one person who grew up and still lived in Northwood in Irvine had ever even heard about the murders!  It is so unsettling to me that this guy has never been caught after doing what he did for all those years and no one even talks about it yet the entire west coast practically went into lock down over Ramirez.  I don't get it.  What also draws me to this case I think is that I grew up in the 70's in a neighborhood similar to the one where the EAR spree started and it really takes me back to that time.  Things were very different then.

Anyway, I've read ST twice, Shelby's book and pretty much this entire board as well as everything else out there including the Quester guy's stuff.  The reason I'm registering now is because I think I might have found something on an alumni page for one of the high schools in Sacramento but I'll go to the East Sac yearbook thread to talk about that.   I really would like to know what does it take or at what point would someone become a POI?

Sounds like you're already way up to speed on the details of this case. The news media is partly to blame for not publicizing the murder spree; many people who even lived in the general area of one of the attacks probably still are unaware of the danger that existed back then.

By all means post your comments in the Sacramento yearbooks thread.

As to what it takes for someone to become a poi ... actually, it depends on who you talk to. It's not an either/or situation; it's more at the discretion of poster.

Generally speaking, a person "might" be a poi if he were in the relevant age group, and could be placed in at least Sacramento and southern California at times of attacks. There are many other "little" things that posters seem preoccupied with. But age and location at the right times would be a good start.

My name's Chemicalpier and I first heard about this case around 2008. I've always been intrigued by unsolved cases. I actually used to post occasionally on the A&E site. But, I doubt anyone would remember me since it was very rare when I did. Out of all the cases, this one by far seems to be the most frustrating.

Hi, I've never been on a message board before, but I thought it was time to start.  I grew up in Goleta and have been interested in the GSK case since I was teenager and first heard about the murders on a tv program.  Some of the murders occurred in my hometown when I was too young to know about them, and the rest were further south.  I was a fan of True Crime Diary and very sad to hear about Ms. McNamara's passing. It has inspired me to get more involved in the case.  When I listened to one of her podcast appearances, she spoke about the types of homes he targeted and how he prank called the victims before attacking them.  This reminded me of a story that a female relative told me, and made me think she could have been an additional target that got away from him.  It has been thought that he escalated from attacks to murders in Goleta, in part because girls were getting away from him.  I still have a lot of connections and family in the area that were adults when the murders took place.  I also am a former librarian and enjoy research, especially if it will help with catching this guy.  If I can be of any help, don't hesitate to ask, but be patient with me as I am just now learning how to use the message board.

Hello,

I had read "In the Footsteps of the Killer" when it was first printed. While it stuck with me, I didn't get sucked in until I read it again after Michelle McNamara's passing. Now I'm immersed in the mystery. I've gone through much of the "General" board, spending more time reading up on areas I find particularly interesting (the Punishment map, the geography of the crimes in general, and speculation about EAR's background/occupation).

I have a couple of thoughts that I'll post in appropriate places.

Been lurking here for a bit and decided to join.Not sure what i can bring to the table as i've never been to California.Saw earons on A&E a few years ago and was instantly hooked and terrified all at once,stumbled across this board by accident.
I grew up at ground zero of the Oakland County Child Killer in Michigan,was 10 years old when kids were being snatched off the Woodward corridor and it was a very scary time to be a kid,adults drilled it in your head every day that if he grabbed you,you were gonna die so punch,scratch,bite,kicked em in the balls,gouge the eyes,do whatever it took to get away.
Like earons they never caught this maniac,and has given me a somewhat unhealthy(at times)obsession with serial killers ever since.
It's nice to finally find like minded people who have a strong desire to see justice served.
I had no personal connection to any of the victims,except being a kid.
To the family members of victims on this board,my heart just bleeds for what you have been through and truly hope that one day this knuckle dragger will get what he deserves.
