I don't believe that this has been discussed in this sub. I'm sure most of you are aware of these murders as there have been a few crime shows about them.
In 1978, and again in 1984, there were two horrible murders on the Torrey Pines Beach in Long Beach California.
In the first case, Barbara Nantais and Jim Alt were sleeping on the beach when someone bludgeoned them both. Barbara was raped, and one of her breasts was partially removed. Jim survived the attack. It should be noted that there were not EAR attacks during this time, and there was not another one until October of that year. In EAR's attack before these murders, he was more violent, screaming at victims that he would kill them and hitting the womans boyfriend with his gun.
The second case was of Claire Hough. Ms. Hough was visiting her grandmother and had gone to the beach that night. She was again raped, bludgeoned and this time the whole breast was removed. Sand was stuffed into the mouths of both victims.
The cases had been considered to be the work of the same person for years. However, Claire Hough's case has recently been solved through DNA, and it appears it is not the same DNA from the first attack.
Now, here is where it could possibly get interesting. Two men are apparently guilty of the murder of Ms. Hough. Both suspects are deceased. One, 67 year old Ronald Tatro died in 2011, and he has an extensive criminal history. The other, Kevin Charles Brown, was a retired San Diego Police Criminologist. He killed himself because he knew police were closing in.
The first man has an extensive criminal history, but Mr. Brown was on the police force, so I highly doubt that he did. How do you just go from respected citizen/police officer to rapist and murderer who mutilates dead women. I don't think you do. Thats just my personal opinion.
I am not saying that either of these men are ONS. I dont know if their DNA was tested (I assume not, as they were both dead before they could be arrested.)

Of note: It appears that Mr. Brown had to submit DNA because he was a member of the police department. I was unaware that this was done. I know its been discussed several times on these boards about police officers and whether they have to submit DNA. Im unclear as to whether the DNA was in CODIS, but I would assume so. I read another article that said that Mr. Brown would read off case information to his fellow employees about rapes and murders and it throughly creeped them out. Anyway, if this is the case, then this murder would not be connected to ONS, but it seems that all police DNA is submitted to CODIS, so we could at least rule out police officers who were employed when DNA laws were in place in California.
What are your thoughts and opinions? Should we look into this further?
