I have posted the bottom eight paragraphs and documentary link on the AETV site before, but now we have a new board, I think that it is right that the British serial rapist and serial killer Robert Napper, who seemed to have many similarities with EAR/ONS, has a thread devoted to him, if you will pardon that turn of phrase.
I am giving some limited information about Robert Napper below, but what should be of real interest to people, is the excellent documentary for which there is a link after my text. Seriously, in many respects this guy was much like EAR/ONS, and I think that it would help us all to learn about the kind of man he was:
One of the most high profile murders that happened in Britain in the 1990s was that of Rachel Nickell. In 1992 she was a twenty three old mother with a two year old son. She was walking on Wimbledon Common in London, with her son, when she was sexually assaulted and stabbed forty nine times.
Police made big mistakes in the case early on, and without any evidence, decided that the murderer must have been a weirdo who lived locally, by the name of Colin Stagg. Stagg was arrested, charged with the murder, spent fourteen months in prison awaiting a trial, at which the judge basically told the police that they had no decent evidence, and the case was quite rightly thrown out.
It wasn't until fifteen years after the murder that Robert Napper, who by that stage had been a patient at a secure psychiatric hospital for over eleven years, was charged with the murder. He had been convicted of a double murder in 1993, when he stabbed another young mother to death, and suffocated her four year old daughter.
During the crime he sexually assaulted the little girl, and mutilated the mother's body, taking parts of which away with him as trophies. The reason that he ended up in a secure hospital, as a pose to prison, is that he was found to be a paranoid schizophrenic, and also to be autistic.
Bearing that diagnosis in mind, it may surprise many people to learn that he is also strongly suspected of being 'The Green Chain Rapist', who carried out around a hundred and six savage attacks, over the period of a few years. He is also known to have kept detailed records of his crimes.
Now, he was obviously caught out by the 1993 double murder, but if a guy like that could get away with so much for so long, and the fact remains that he has only probably been convicted of a very small proportion of his crimes, then it goes to prove that you do not have to be a criminal mastermind to get away with many terrible crimes over a long period.
This guy was an autistic paranoid schizophrenic. His thought patterns must have been very strange to say the least, and he must have been at a big disadvantage compared to an intelligent, sane person, who may have tried to get away with the same crimes.
But the truth is that he managed it for many years, and if it hadn't been for just one crime, then over a hundred others may never have been linked to him. EAR/ONS may well have been very smart, but it doesn't even take a person with what could be considered normal faculties to possibly get away with doing a great number of awful things.
