I still think the most important thing to find the killer, is to locate him through all the crime sites. Obviously he lived not far from those victims’ house, which is why he could. This , then find the suspects. Right now I'm still gathering info through the sites, will post the conclusion later.
This thread is mostly my opinion of his personality.
I’m not sure is he the VR or not, but he did have a lot of skills of burglary.
He was smart but also very very fragile, he even said that nobody likes him in his real life. A few calls also gave me such impression. I could even feel this when he tried so hard to control his victims. He probably met some of his victims before, they would not even pay attention to him. He had to continue such crimes to keep letting himself feel "he was good at something". So he put so much effort not just to gain power over his victims, sex and money which is what caused 99% of the crimes, but also to prove he’s not worthless. Unlike many serial killers, who had a life or even family, ONS mostly didn't seem to have a normal life. It might be bit like Jekyll and Hyde in a twisted way. I think he kept himself from others, probably never showed much aggression or desire toward others on the day and switch to a ruthless predator on the night to release all of them. I don’t think he is dumb, he is very intelligent, but had low EQ so he wasn't likable. Thus he didn't get suspected much, the sheriff mostly pay attention to aggressive individuals, they might have his name during the investigation but didn't consider him as a serious suspect.
As for why did he end his crime, I was thinking
Maybe because his real life was getting better, he had something other than these murders to prove himself. While I doubt it could let him stop.
Maybe it wasn't getting better, but he was getting weaker to disguise and control his victims, he might get himself found if the victims come out alive so he killed them. At some point, maybe he was forced to stop because he would get captured if he continue to murder. So he was forced to stop for a while until the Cruz murder.
I’m very interested at how did he get those info from his victims. Yeah he probably did a lot of prowling, even went into their houses, but were these enough to know those? There was one potential victim who went to ARC, he knew this info but still confused her with her neighbor. How did he know her name and college, but got wrong with her house(if I remember clearly)? I still need dig deeper to figure that out.
