Oscar Ray Bolin Jr., wrecker company trainee, used a club known as a "tire buddy" to kill one of his victims as witnessed by his half-brother Phillip Bolin.*
Bolin used the tire buddy [metal tipped ~16" in length] to quickly bludgeon several of his victims; one's skull was reduced to powder and in 28 pieces. Although slim and short this weapon is fully capable of inflicting severe bodily injury.
Could EAR's weapon (used in the july76 garage beating of an older man** and seen in Attack #3) have been a Tire Buddy?
The older man lived in the same upper middle class neighborhood as Attack#2 which occurred 17july15 ("on the same day" as the garage attack)***
The garage and EAR attack#2 victims describe the same attacker; physically and by his (dark corduroy pants/waffle stomper boots/ski mask) attire.
The older, beaten man had a daughter (not at home in the early morning hours of the attack) and a son who was cleared by DNA. The son had recently moved, contentiously, from his father's home. The son's roommate was also DNA-cleared.
In additional the older man owned gas stations and a car rental business.****
The man's DNA-cleared son had many links to EAR victims; having gone to school with several Sacramento area rape victims, living between Manuela and Janelle in Irvine at the time of their murders and marrying a woman whose parents lived near the Smith's in Ventura.****
Did the EAR know the son of the older man? ...that the son was not at home? ...that the daughter still lived in the home?
Based on the Tire Buddy weapon and all the links the son had to EAR victims, I SUGGEST the son be questioned with respect to being closely associated with someone (of the son's ~physical description) who worked in the wrecker/tow truck industry. If the father is still living (he would be ~90yoa): What tow/wreaking service did he commonly use in his business?
[an aside: If EAR and the bludgeoned man's son were closely associated, the EAR would certainly have heard details of the older man's attack AND subsequently quit carrying his Tire Buddy during attacks. Bludgeoning was close to EAR's heart though and he returned to beating as an attack method WHEN he left Sacramento. imo EAR choose bludgeoning weapons on the murder scenes so as not to be stopped carrying such a weapon. yes, EAR still carried weapons but understood doing so put him at risk...when bludgeoning weapons were readily available at murder scenes.]
caveat: These are merely my thoughts and certainly not meant to incriminate the beating victim's family. in addition I am not channeling GQuester; the son's links to the EAR's victims and my knowledge of Oscar Ray Bolin Jr's m.o. brought these ideas to mind....of course I have thoroughly read GQ's site.
*law enforcement interviews and court records of Oscar Ray Bolin, Jr (vs State of Florida) (Hillsborough county LE)

***I'm not on my pc and can't absolutely verify time of garage attack/Attack#2 via Sudden Terror, so using memory/board notes. The garage attack may have occurred on 16july15...at any rate the attacker and EAR were similarly attired.
