That was my first thought about the description....it's early in the morning and he's diving under the car in relatively short order. Unless the description is more exacting than "it was kinda like this", then I can see several possibilities. The stitched padding in the picture is more exacting but I'm not sure if it brings it closer to a fully accurate description or not. I think that might be reinforced by LE settling on a 'pugil stick-like implement' as the description but I certainly could be wrong....and probably am. As I remember, the perp was rummaging through his tool area when the victim entered the garage but didn't own anything like this implement he was attacked with...wouldn't that be odd ( even for someone like EAR ) to be carrying something like a variation on a pugil stick versus the potential for misidentifying something? I don't know...that's an open ended question to be answered by someone who knows more about it that me.
Why did he take the club to attack #3. Note that this weapon, though padded, landed the man in the garage in a hospital for several days and the mother in #3 required many stitches for her head wounds. Maybe he had practiced with this military police training weapon.
