I would love to utilize 'crowdsourcing' to find all locations that have major similarities to 'The Map'. While I have spent countless hours looking for the location, I feel I am just randomly picking cities, searching, and then moving on without keeping any log of findings. If 100 people were to assist with this project, each of us would only have to meticulously search 1/2 of a state. Of course Texas is as large as all of New England.......so larger states would require being divided more. I am sure many would volunteer (myself included) to organize the search party but there needs to be certain criteria to make a potential location a 'validated' potential location. I believe it would be best to concentrate on the U.S.A. first and then Canada secondly.
There have been many posters that have come up with possible locations but none seem to match up 100%.........or even 75%. Perhaps this is because the map was an ideal attack area, a high school drafting project, or a future potential housing plan. Let's find out if this map is a real location!!
Another difficulty in finding the location is time. What was once there may be gone today. The changes that occur with population shifts can be quite staggering, especially over a 40 year period. This is why it is not a good idea to dismiss a location if it doesn't match 100%. As Heraclitus is often quoted...... 'The Only Thing That Is Constant Is Change'.
Many posters believe they have found the location because the lake fits, but there are no houses or highways around the lake. Other people have found the half clover highway, but there is no water or lake. The most important part of this project would be defining what characteristics would make a location potentially valid. Please post what criteria you think is most important (lake, half clover highway, etc.) or which criteria you think is not important (number of houses per street, map north compass orientation, etc.).
