Greetings.
To begin my first post, I would first like to extend my admiration and appreciation to everyone who participates on this forum. Your dedication and determination provide an invaluable resource for this case and you should rightly be congratulated for it.
As for myself, my interest in the GSK lies mostly, but not exclusively, in his psychological underpinnings; the challenge of trying to figure out why he does the things he does, as well as attempting to decipher the unconscious meanings & compulsions that hide beneath the surface of his acts.
Which brings me to the subject at hand – Basic Needs
What are the “Basic Needs” of a human being? The things we need to survive and thrive? With the exception of “oxygen”, whose exclusion will be explained in a moment, I have identified five basic human needs…
1) Shelter (a home – a place of safety)
2) Food (self-explanatory)
3) Fire (warmth & comfort)
4) Possessions (tools, clothes, items with emotional meaning)
5) Emotional Connectivity (wife, children, friends – provide self-value & hope)
Now let’s examine particular, habitual, actions GSK took when committing his EAR crimes.
1) He would break into a house
2) He would consume the victim’s food
3) He would often shut off or turn down the victim’s heat.
4) He would ransack & rifle through the victim’s belongings
5) He would violate wives, mothers, or daughters while threatening to kill children.
To my mind, GSK’s actions unmistakably match up with the list of basic human needs.
Of course each of GSK’s actions, taken on their own, had a purpose & reason unto itself (he broke into houses because that was integral to his fantasy & was his area of expertise. He lowered the heat because, IMO, he suffered from a heat intolerance caused by a combination of mild hypogonadism & amphetamine addiction).
But GSK’s actions, when taken in their ENTIRETY, reveal that he was actually attacking nothing less than ALL of a person’s basic human needs. The sole exception is oxygen, but of course to deny oxygen is to kill…and GSK was not yet ready for that (although he may have had as many as 3 murders to his credit pre-ONS, but IMO saw those as acts of self-defense far removed from “murder”).
So if GSK was attacking all of his victim’s basic needs, what was the purpose? What was he trying to accomplish? What does this say about his desires & compulsions?
I believe that his actions, taken in their entirety, are nothing less than a deeply unconscious, highly symbolic, murder of his victims. The assault on, and the denial of, those basic needs completely eradicates the very foundations of life for the victims during the course of the attack. Everything they hold dear or depend upon for comfort, safety & happiness is violated, destroyed, or withheld. And by destroying the basic needs of the victim, GSK has, in essense, destroyed the victim themselves in the most effective way he was able pre-ONS.
In spite of having a limited amount of information regarding GSK, his behavior appears rife with a deep and complex psychological pathology. He is an intelligent, organized, disciplined, and highly motivated individual. There is a purpose and logic behind everything he does…even if he is the only one who can understand the reasons. In particular his actions and methods, I believe, reveal important clues about GSK’s early years and his path to serial killer. Conversely, the information we discover about his formation is invaluable in decoding his later crimes and perhaps the very reason for his entire crime spree.
In my next post, I would like to write about my thoughts regarding GSK’s childhood and how it all but had to lay the foundation for his future crimes.
Thank you very much for the privilege of posting here. I look forward to any comments.
