I noticed that Michelle Mcnamara recently submitted a FOIA request regarding the Smiths. Of course, it was denied. Considering Pool was quite forthcoming with some pretty significant info, there still must be something major that OC LE is holding back on. I don't get it. Now is the time to put it all out there. Do they really want to solve this or not?
So, I can see that a FOIA/CPRA request for information on the Smiths is going to be denied. That would be like your neighbor asking for information about you. I don't know what she asked for, but, again, the FOIA/CPRA Officers look for exceptions for denial before they look for approval.
Those are the rules of engagement. I can understand that these state/federal workers aren't going to bend the rules just so a bunch of online hacks can push the case forward
I think LE always errs on the side of conservative when viewing information as significant. Again, its probably from a blanket exemption that allows them just to treat everything as "significant" and confidential, but you might understand that an individual doesn't want to be the one making an exception and getting blamed for a leak.
I have heard Detective Pool is forthcoming, but it must be that he knows the case more inside and out than anyone, and can make that personal judgement call on what can be said, at least, to family members. The FOIA requests don't go through Pool, at least, not directly.
