Coming from England, my knowledge of realtors, or as we Brits call them 'estate agents', is largely based on how we do things here. Also, whereas you say 'real estate', we say 'property', and there must be other differences too. It just seems to me that the property connections keep coming, whether it be dropboxes, houses for sale on the same street, or like in the case of Janelle Cruz, the house where the attack took place being for sale. Even if EAR/ONS was not an estate agent, I don't think that all the links are just a coincidence, and there is something to be learned about his modus operandi among all the connections.
The psychological profile of EAR/ONS, suggests that he may well have had some means of income, but did not work in the early morning hours, drove a well maintained car, dressed well and would not stand out in upscale neighbourhoods. Also, that he would appear harmless, be intelligent and articulate, neat and well organised, manipulative and a chronic liar. With all due respect to estate agents, does any of that suggest that he wasn't one?
If EAR/ONS had gone off the rails in some way as a teenager, possibly as VR, and buggered up his chances of college etc, then could estate agency have been something that he fell into, maybe even through connections with family or friends? In England at least, someone does not have to have any great academic qualifications to be an estate agent, yet like people that do, they wear a suit to work, often make plenty of money, work from an office etc.
As an estate agent, you would rarely be in the office all day, leaving opportunities for getting up to no good while you are out. You would likely have a decent income, hence no great need to steal valuables. You could find reasons to be in areas of interest to you. You may be able to access dropboxes, even if you are not meant to. You would be quite able to fade into the background, and have a valid reason to be wherever you happened to be, and be seeing new people and properties on a regular basis.
