Hi everybody, first-timer here.
My theory slightly differs from the previous speculations presented in this thread. I'll share a short anecdote from my high school years after which many of you probably see the implications:
I was stupid enough to lend 15 bucks (the currency was not USD) to a kid who was a well-known bully, just a mean and obnoxious idiot. For weeks I tried to get the money back but all I would get was arrogant laughter at my face. Then one day, I simply had enough. I met the kid in the hallway, pushed him into the locker and took his wallet from his pocket. However, he only had a one 20 x bill. So, as calmly as I could, I took the bill and actually gave (or threw at his face) the change, worth 5 bucks. There were other kids present so the point was being "cool" and only take back what was mine.
Could it be that EAR and the male victim knew each other? For some reason the male specifically owed EAR the 1600 dollars. For instance, from an unpaid salary. Remember, the male was in construction business. EAR, like me, wanted coolly go there and take what was his. The rape of course was a motive too, but in this incident it could have been a bonus, some sort of interest charge.
