American Horror Story: Freakshow... and the EAR

Hey guys, the doc is here and I wanted to talk a little bit about the latest season in Ryan Murphy's F/X show AMERICAN HORROR STORY, particularly about one new character who makes me think of the EAR/ONS as some of our sleuth's believe him to be. For those who do not watch the show, it's an anthology series with every season taking place in a separate time with different story. While retaining the main cast from season to season in different roles. The first season was about a Haunted House, the second about an Asylum and the third about a Coven of witches. (Hell, if my movie were to have the budget, I would cast Evan Peters as the EAR, but that's not the point of including him in the thread, so bare with my need to promote the show some ).

This season is called FREAKSHOW, following the chaotic lives of a traveling carnival crew of astounding individuals with some breathtaking deformities and special abilities. Lobster Hands, The Tiniest Woman(real deal), Tiny Armed Man(real deal), The Bearded Woman(Kathy Bates lol), The Triple Breasted Hermaphrodite, The Two-Headed Woman, Strong Man, and various other real deal "freaks"... all of the best kind of weird is there, most of them played by legitimate individuals with the legitimate conditions. Taking place in the fifties, the show follows the bizarre troupe as they arrive in a small town that is already being plagued by the presence of murderous clown. The good ol' boys in law enforcement of the 1950's suspect that the traveling circus is more involved with the murders, as they have no clue as to the appearance of the killer clown. With drama, murder and mayhem all about for people to see, no one is innocent and no one is proven guilty. A great season.

NOW, THE POINT INVOLVING THE EAR/ONS....

There are some sleuths who believe that the EAR was a young, spoiled man who was untouchable due to a rich lifestyle... and submissive mother. There is a character that fits this to the "T" named Dandy Mott, portrayed flawlessly by a talented new actor to the show named Finn Wittrock. By far the most interesting character thus far, THIS guy is an amazing piece of work! A spoiled son to an aristocratic matriarch, played by series regular Frances Conroy, he is sheltered, spoiled, obnoxious and most importantly, mentally disturbed. Dandy is in his late twenties-early thirties, sheltered from the "cruel world" by Miss Mott, a submissive woman who only wants the sole air to her empire to find his way. However, this includes indulging his insane needs and childishly disturbed desires, including trying to purchase the two headed woman, ignoring his desire to decapitate neighborhood cats and my personal favorite, watch him sip cognac from a flask fitted with a rubber nipple. Ultimately, his insanity reaches incredible new heights when his mother purchases for him the one thing that he had wanted since he was a child, something that he had become instantly obsessed with to some very disturbing levels... his very own clown, whom she bought off of the street as he was walking along.

If this is the person that you see as the EAR/ONS, a spoiled man-child with an insatiable appetite and endlessly bored... you might want to peep him out on the show. For some reason, whenever I see him, he is the epitome of how I see this scenario for the EAR's true life looking out to be.

Personally, I hate this season of AHS. But I do agree with you that Dandy is BY FAR the most interesting character on the show.

They really need to mix up the cast, they're getting stale. It's like they are just going through the motions at this point.

It's better than Coven, but not as good as Asylum and no where near as good as Murder House.

Just my opinion. A lot of people really seem to like this season.

Yeah, I'd have to disagree with ya on this season being the worst. My order is Murder House, Freakshow(thus far), Coven and Asylum. Yes, sadly, the aliens killed that season for me almost entirely. Coven was pretty bad towards the ending though, so I might be up for stepping it over that one. The best thing Asylum had going for it was Quinto and McDermott, though Lily Rabe has always been my favorite actress of the series.

My issue with Jessica Lange is that she is ALWAYS the same drug-addict/alcoholic with a penchant for murder. Fine and talented actress, but I'm glad this is her final season as the headliner. Angela Basset is going to be a much fresher face for the show.

I love how they're doing Dandy and his mom with Twisty The Clown, who turned out being WAY more interesting than I initially expected him to be. He was barely a scary clown to me up until they revealed his backstory, which was incredibly disturbing. I also like that Evan Peters is doing WAY better than he's done in the past two seasons, since he stole the show as Tate in season one. Jimmy is no where near as adaptable or thought-provoking as Tate was, but he's a very good hero character for the story. My second favorite addition would be Mike Chiklis, whom I have missed since the SHIELD ended... hate it that he comes and goes a little too often.

Furthermore, I miss Connie Britton, McDermott, Rabe and most importantly, ZACH QUINTO! lol, that guy has acting chops like no other.

It's like the show finally started picking up it's pace with the Halloween specials, which I was nervous about due to the supernatural influence it would have over the grounded storyline.
