i don't see how this line of reasoning argues that it couldn't have happened. Your argument seems to suggest only that it wouldn't have happened multiple times, because the teacher would have been sacked. Even if that is true (which I doubt...Catholic schools still make students do these writing "assignments" I think), there still would have been a group of boys who experienced the strong punishment in order for parents to complain.

I would never argue that it couldn't have happened, but my experience of grade school makes me doubt the scope of the punishment.  Teachers have to operate within the guidelines of their job, answer to superiors, report their actions, etc.  Probably every one on this board had to do the writing punishment.  I had to write something like, "I will not talk during Miss Brown's music class" a hundred times, in chalk, in a corner, on a movable blackboard, while the class went on to sing Kumbaya for a half hour.  I do remember the fatigue, and the increasing difficulty of getting low on the board, and then having to erase it and start over - but the punishment ended when the class ended. 

I don't believe the writing punishment was extended outside the physical class room or class room hours.  Just my opinion.

Not trying to be critical or debate but isn't this basically calling the ricedr a "liar" (rhetorical question). For the record I had a first grade teacher that pushed a boys head into a toilet bowl for peeing his pants in her class, she took the class to the restroom to see what happens if you're a "baby". This was never reported, everyone was TERRIFIED and no one else speed.

It's really pathetic that new posters are treated so poorly, just my opinion.

Just because I question or doubt something doesn't mean I think the other person is a liar, or even that I discredit what they said.  It's just that I have experience to the contrary and would like to state my opinion, as it might ring true for other people on the list.

Words are powerful. I was putting myself in ricedr's place and imagining how disheartened your post would make me.

Certainly everyone is entitled to their opinions - absolutely!!

While your intentions were not meant to be hurtful, maybe for a first-time poster trying to contribute and being told they are doubted and disbelieved could be perceived as such. Or not and I'm an overly sensitive beeatch.

I can say this, that exact thing happened to me in fifth grade. The whole class was required to write a ridiculous amount some stupid sentence which I can't now recall. Parents were mad but it was considered a homework assignment I guess. All I know is we had to do it. It was so many times we had to write it that we had to turn it in in increments of a 100 pages until we reached whatever the final number was which i don't remember. It was brutal.

I don't think Trig's question was hurtful or wrong in any way. Posters should feel free to question someone new to the board, if a story does not seem to add up to them. Not asking questions can lead to a new troll making all kinds of claims until eventually, several wasted posts later, people finally catch on after having wasted everybody's time.

In turn, I will also disagree with Trig in regards to the punishment being unlikely. In 7th grade recess, I was involved in a fight with another boy over what I can't even remember. I punched him out, gave him a bloody nose, and my punishment was to write, at home, 'I will not fight when it is unnecessary.'

I forgot how many times I was instructed to do so. Probably like 5 pages worth. In any event, my parents weren't called to be told what happened, nor did the other kid get punished even though he attacked first (because he lost and had a bloody nose). Looking at it now, things have changed so much. Back in the old days, people didn't run and cry and get lawyers like they do now. If you did something wrong at school, mom and dad didn't care what your side of the story was. You were wrong, period.

That punishment was not outlandish for the 1960s and most parents just went along with whatever the teacher proposed. Not a lot of helicopter parents in the 1960s.

Truly, if I thought I had important information on the EAR I wouldn't give a crap what anyone thought, I'd just want to get it into the right hands.  I sent my ideas into the address on Amazon for Sudden Terror, and CC'ed Sac Sheriffs on the EAR site.  I got a Thank You in two weeks, over and out.  Very little drama

Trig.  I did basically the same thing.  After I read the LA Magazine artical I e-mailed three LE agencies.  After I read Sudden Terror (and placed pistols, rifles and a shotgun in various locations in my house) I wrote to the author.  I told him a little bit in the first letter.  He telephoned me and said he would definitely turn the information over to investigators.
         When I didn't here from anyone after a few months I decided to find my friend myself.  I had to do it without him knowing I was looking for him.  I found him.
         He fit the physical discription and even bore a stiking resemblance to a couple of the composites.  However, everything about the man said he wasn't the EAR.
         I was relieved.  He had a very successful career in the U.S. Army and retired as a Command Sgt Major.  He had at least four and possibly five children and a long marriage.  After entering the army at seventeen he served at least one tour in Vietnam.  During the First Persian Gulf War he was a CSM for a forward unit.  His MOS was as a vehicle mechanic.  He was an expert with pistol and rifle and received many military decorations.  I guess he was more a hero than a psychopath.  I was going to phone his widow and tell her how sorry I was when I read of his death.  He died, like the one psychologist said in Sudden Terror, much younger than the rest of his generation.  
          I put all this information together and was getting ready to send a second letter to the author stating that my 6th grade friend could not be the EAR.  However, I came across a document that is the reason I'm still involved.  After seven and a half years in the army, and at least one combat tour, he was discharged from the army with total loss of rank.  The discharge date was the middle of April 1976; just two months before the first known attack.

         I sent this and the other information to the author in June 2014.  I've heard nothing.  Maybe it was looked into and everything I've said is wrong or fabricated.  Then I'd be wasting my time and yours.  I was going to just file it all away and forget about it.  My wife couldn't believe I got involved in it anyway.  When I told her how bad the EAR was and told her I was finished with it she let me have it.  I told her he was dead and could do no more harm, if he was the EAR.  She told me if he was the sob he didn't deserve to be remembered in a good way by anyone and needed to be exposed for what he really was.

        I decided to put the information to this board because it is a way to get it to more people who might be able to pick up where I've reached deadends.  Or, you might be able to show me how wrong I am.  Either way Trig, no drama.  Since I found out my friend was dead I don't even check to see if the guns are still loaded.

So he was discharged with total loss of rank, after doing at least one tour of Vietnam, in '76,  and he reappeared as CSM in the First Gulf War, which was something like '91(?).  That's a pretty long stretch of time.
