Topic: Could Janelle have dated her killer without knowing it?
Poster: catch_him
She was dating some guy in the marines shortly befor her death. Maybe the marine and kitten man are the same person. Hence her bofriend being EAR/ONS.
Response from PortofLeith
Janelle's sister posted on this board that the day before her murder, Janelle met a body builder Marine at the beach at Laguna Niguel. I think all other Marines in Janelle's life were identified.
Response from catch_him
correction for who?
How do you know all the other marines in her life were identified? Alot of people in Janelle' life have not all been identified and properly investigated.
I said she was dating a guy who was in the marines. The guy could have been kitten man too. As arch said the guy was a consumated liar. The marine nor kitten man have been idntified to this day.

Catch Him,
I happen to not believe that kitten man holds any significance to this case. Det.Montgomery interviewed the poster who relayed the kitten man story. Montgomery has an impressive reputation as a detective. Janelle's case was waylaid by a false confession, but I am convinced that Heany, Pool and Montgomery have thoroughly investigated Janelle's circle of male acquaintances. I personally have looked at two other Marines within her circle and neither were viable suspects.. .mainly because of where they were stationed during other EAR ONS crimes. They mystery Marine at the beach may have been known to one of Janelle's friends. Most teenage girls discuss attractive guys they meet.
Port,
this quote comes directly from Arch who has been a very active member here, created the EAR/ONS site, has spoken with the dectives, has been given access to many of the case files, and has appeared on numerous tv shows about EAR/ONS.
Arch begin quote "The EAR investigation was flawed because of assumptions. The Goleta investigation was flawed because of assumptions. The Ventura investigation was flawed because of assumptions. The Irvine investigations were flawed because of assumptions.
See the pattern? 35 years later no one knows who the Oldsmobile driver was. 33 years later, no one knows who the runner was on the Sacramento levee or who the shooter of the Maggiore's was. 32 years later, no one knows who shot Drs Offerman and Manning. It wasn't Glasby as was assumed. 31 years later no one knows who bludgeoned Lyman and Charlene Smith. It wasn't Alsip as was assumed. 30 years later, no one knows who murdered Manuela Witthuhn. It wasn't her husband, David as was assumed (despite what was said publicly about him not being a suspect. he had to provide DNA years later to exonerate himself as did Alsip). 25 years later, no one knows who raped and murdered Janelle Cruz. I guess the assumption is that it wasn't the "kitten man" or the Marine she was recently dating before she was killed. Why bother looking for these guys? They didn't have anything to do with it... even though we don't even know who these guys are. That is deadly circular reasoning.
Investigator assumptions are the reason the case is unsolved and so long as they assume, the case will never be solved. You cannot assume anything with the EAR/ONS." end of Arch's quote

Nope.
I will post more in the next couple of weeks.

I personally doubt it is someone she knew well; however, EAR thought he knew her well. So "know" him, in past posts I said yes but I tend to lean to more association and the fact the EAR thought he knew her. From a criminal stand point: Jannelle was his to watch and nobody else.
We can make calculated assumptions about his behavior and future behavior based on past serial offenders. Could he be a statistical outlier? Maybe, but staying within the standard deviation will give us more definition into his character.

Could Janelle have dated her killer without knowing it?
...I don't think he was the"dating type"...but I could be wrong..he may have been a Romeo...
Response from MovieMan
I don't believe Janelle was dating the EAR/ONS
Too many people who saw her the last week of her life can attest to that.
Janelle, like many girls, had a lot of guy friends and she wasn't one to stick around if the guy she was dating proved to be a scumbag.
I am not referring to Marines that were in her life on a constant, or limited basis.
Like I said, I will post more later.

Regardless of how unlikely, it should be one of the leads looked into. I'm not saying with 100% certainty she dated ONS/EAR. I'm just saying it's one of many possibilities as is most if not all the theories are on this board. If we all knew for sure who he was, what he was, where he is etc. he would be caught. Are next best bet is to look into as many angles as possible. Kinda of like going down the check list and eliminating people, places, scenarios etc.
Also I asked you two questions in another thread in regards to Greg in the year book thread.
Response from MovieMan
Catch-answers about Greg
Don't know the answer to one. Don't want to say about the other.
No offense.
As for looking into various people and theories, I agree with you. But then we might as well look into almost every single person the victims met six months or so before their attack.
I mean, maybe the EAR/ONS got off work late from Alpha Beta and followed Patti home...
The possibilities can quickly turn into a labyrinth.
Response from catch_him
so your saying you don't want to tell me what high school? seems kinda of rudish considering most of us are here to help catch this killer and help you with your project.
in regards to it turning into a labyrinth: All the others ways haven't worked for over 30 years. Time to try something new.
Response from SpeakelofEngrish
Catch, everyone here has the right to be guarded, to whatever degree, with their personal information. It is not unreasonable for one to prefer not to reveal their alma mater -- wouldn't you agree?
Response from catch_him
I just feel if he didn't want us to know what high school Sanchez went to he shouldn't have posted his high yearbook photos. Because in that case it would be then reasonable for some to say great pics which high school did he go to etc. Most of us are only here to help each other not cause harm.
Response from Bear99
There are 2 and maybe more Marines that lived in the vicinity of Janelle. There was also another Marine whos daughter was friends with Janelle. I would hope that these Marines and their friends have been cleared. I think it would be possible that the Marines who lived in the neighborhood had their fellow Marines over for parties and used the community pool.
