After speaking with Arch this morning I was reminded we need to remember why we are here. SO MANY LIVES WERE LOST! LET US ALL TAKE A MOMENT TO REMEMBER THE VICTIMS TODAY..}Rest in Peace Cheri and Greg. God bless you and your families. Deb, you, your brother and family are in my prayers today and everyday. To the family of Gregory Sanchez, may you find peace. We pray for you always. We will have resolution in this case. g

Yes I do believe ear/ons was into tennis. The tennis players Arthur Ashe and Billy Jean King both had type 1 diabetes. Not only were they professional tennis players but they were also famous champions. They both were born with type 1 diabetes. I can bet you a beer that they both could have out run you Sammy and the speaker of English together.
I did not know Ashe and King were diabetics.
Although I was aware of diabetic sportsmen such as the rower Steve Redgrave and the footballer Gary Mabbutt.EAR-ONS was obviously in shape and a decent athlete - that is not in question - I am just curious as to why you think he was a tennis player....For the record, in my youth I was a cross country and district 800m champion...however I am well aware that the last man to challenge Billie Jean King was beaten convincingly, so I will have to turn down your bet!

With regards to tennis. I have noticed connections to tennis in some of these cases. I am not going to state them here. Also, I am not going to say that this guy was a professional tennis player but maybe more likely in a related occupation or trying to get into a related occupation..

Love him or hate him, SOE is the absolute best poster on this board - hands down. However, he has paid the price for that respect through his diligent research.

Some of you might think that he is bullying you when he responds to some of your theories or conclusions in a sarcastic manner. However, think of it as him putting your theory to the test. If you read between the lines, what SOE is saying is "So what?" Meaning, think about what you are posting before you post it and why it is important. Ask yourself "so what?" at the end of your conclusion. If you can answer the "so what's" with supporting facts, then your post might be more respected.

The problem is a two edge sword in that we have a newer generation of posters on this board who are making "discoveries" among themselves; but such discoveries have been mentioned on this board many times previously for years now. For example, after first watching the CCF episode where it mentions the town hall meeting attack, a new poster will find this board and post something to the effect of "Do you know if LE looked through any footage or pictures taken from this event" - thinking that they thought of something that no one else ever has, including LE. My respect is for those individuals like Arch and Guessting who actually have the patience to answer those type of questions over and over again when the answer can easily be found on previous posts. Another example is in this thread regarding the question whether Janelle Cruz had a medical connection. Yes, she was receiving counseling sessions at one time at a Santa Ana hospital as I understand. I also believe that it was the same hospital in which Patrice Harrington worked (correct me if I'm wrong Port).

While we want new posters to stumble across this board and be active contributors, we also want you to do your own homework on this case as well. I was a longtime lurker of the old board for over a year before I felt up to speed to post a comment. Of course, if you have specific information regarding this case, then that is a separate issue.

Many want to be upset with SOE for his sarcastic comments, but if you would simply pay the price as he has and as others have such as Arch, Port, Guessting, Movieman, Conquistador, as well as many others, you would understand his sarcasm when many of the answers to your questions can be found in older posts or the post themselves have a "so what?" quality about them.

I spent many years on the old board. Never ever ever was there such behaviour of good posters such as dogs, Arch or ista to other posters. We had our disagreements from time to time with characters such as Sam but never this stuff. Call it what it may. Sugar coat it and put a candy on top of it the behaviour remains. Sucking up does no good for anything or anyone so I won't. Treating others with dignity and respect as human beings is what I am about and I will not change that for the world.

There was lots of debate there but never the type of bullying, intimidation and harassment like what is happening here. People were never afraid to post their findings or theories on the old board unlike here.

I know that some posters on here have been unable to share specifics because they had promised sources that they wouldn't divulge any details...is that why you can't go into detail?I would like to know more about the tennis angle...

Sammy, I have seen connections to tennis in some cases. I am still looking/searching this angle when I have the time. I am taking my time and not rushing. I have been involved in this case for over twelve years now and have been disappointed so many times. So I am taking it nice and slow. For legal reasons I am not going to name anything here. But you can rest assured that once I am finish I will submit my stuff to Sac for them to check it.

I wouldn't say this board has been hijacked. I think this board has always had a number of people who really knew there * well and always strove for FACTS and not so much speculation.. Because of that you could get a really high level of discussion going on and new people tend to feel left out or shut down when they bring up something that's been gone over ad nauseum .

You know i just read lawstudents post and he nailed it really so no point in keeping going with this.
I will say again that this crap software message board needs a sticky with case Knowns and Facts for new folks and also so we can keep some things straight, 91 phone call? yes no yes... I'm still on yes as of now. I know I brought it up before but I think it would do a world of difference. I wonder how many keep files of their own to keep things straight?

I am not going to continue this discussion after this post. It has nothing to do with knowing your stuff but more about treating others with dignity and respect. For example, when I heard that they were looking at Cornfed as ear/ons I knew right away he could not be the ear/ons because I can see from the crimes that ear/ons was not a racist. Because I read DAmbrosio's profile in detail and realized that some things were wrong based on the ear cases.

Yet I never came on the old board and insulted/curse people who were believers that Cornfed was the ear/ons. Treat people with dignity and respect. If you know your stuff then fine but don't try to humiliate others if they have an idea or theory that is different from yours. Also don't humiliate others that are now learning about the cases because they took the time to be here and contribute. They did not have to be here. When I was on the old board Arch and Dogs took the time to share their ideas with me. Their kindness influenced and encouraged me.

In Memory of Janelle Lisa Cruz 7/11/67-5/5/86

Janelle Cruz was the last know victim of the EAR/ONS. She was tragically murdered on May 5, 1986. I pray for her family to find peace and comfort. I also pray that this animal will be identified and brought to justice. Rest in peace Janelle. The search for justice for you, and all of the other victims continues. g

This was a nasty homicide. That's not to lessen the horrors this soulless scum committed earlier, but it seems more devastating when the victim is a young person not even in the prime of life. I think it was LS1 who said this, and I agree with this: the Cruz case is one which holds the key to solving this case. I feel certain Ms. Cruz knew her killer--I feel that he lived in Irvine in the '80s. The detail that stood out very prominently for me was the savage facial assault. As far as I know, none of the other ONS victims had their faces smashed in--please pardon me for being so graphic. This was personal, and I can only surmise that it was so because Ms. Cruz somehow knew her murderer. That's simply speculation based on facts that we know, and what pointed me in that direction was Ms. Diane Stein's--Ms. Cruz's mother--account of the homicide during the THS program from last May.

Yes, it was such a senseless act of violence. It was so tragic she had been there alone, her family on vacation. To be so young and so alone, tragic..These are the acts only a monster could perform. His acts will have to be payed for sometime soon. I just wish it would be today. We are waiting very patiently for your day. I will be there. You will never escape your justice. g

If I'm not mistaken, Cruz was the only victim found face up. The other female victims also showed signs of the overkill factor, but as you pointed out- there were no facial assaults. Some suspect that Ms. Cruz turned her head at the last moment, but who knows? If this was the case, I would expect one or two blows, but ONS does not stop at one or two blows on the female victims. From the crime scene photos on the CCF episode, it looks like her faced was covered up with blankets. Just like the others (with the exception to the Smith's) he probably used the blankets to shield the blood. However, given that the majority of the trauma was to her face, it seems to demonstrate more of a personal rage towards Ms. Cruz rather than a generalized rage towards women in general as demonstated in the other cases. I feel the same way as you in that there's something about this case that just seems fishy given the five year absence, the close proximity to the Withuhn murder, Janelle's age compared to the other murdered victims, the 10:45 time, the change in M.O (ONS did not attack boyfriend - but let him leave), and the facial assault. It just seemed like a rushed job (get in and get out given the early time).I get very frustrated because it seems as though there are very obvious answers right in front of us, but I can't see them. The one advantage that we have and that ONS didn't count on is DNA -he probably thought that no one would connect his murders, so if he did commit one close to home it wouldn't matter because no one know it was him... but it does matter because I bet he was living in Irvine during the Cruz murder (and more than likely Withuhn murder as well). -LS1

I believe you're correct about that: if I remember also, Ms. Cruz was found face up--can you confirm this, G? The overkill factor was always apparent, and that particular facet of the crimes bothers me deeply. I know for myself that I spend more time dwelling on the Cruz homicide than some of the other ONS crimes because of the savage facial asault. On the use of blankets: I suspect that the blankets were strictly utilitarian in nature; he used them simply as shields--as you wrote in your post. I don't think he would have a problem savaging his victim while staring them down face-to-face. He learned very quickly that bludgeoning a human skull is a very messy proposition--reference the Smith homicides in Ventura in March 1980.

You said it, LS: this one feels like "a rushed job." I suspect too that he allowed the male to leave, and 2245 is a bit early for him to begin "business." I too feel that he was living in Irvine at the time, and I feel that he was in Irvine dating back to at least early 1981. The close proximity between the homes, the probable usage of the park nearby both residences for easy access to and from compel me to believe that only "a local" would possess that sort of knowledge about the neighborhood, and this suspect is a stickler--for the most part--for intelligence.I remember watching THS and listening to Ms. Stein's recollections of her daughter's murder. When she said that this POS "crushed her face," I could have put both fists through cinderblock walls with no problem.

I dont think the facial damage necessarily meant he knew her. If he was rushing, he might not have took the time to turn her over. If she had fought him and he hit her and knocked her unconscious, she may have been laying face up and he just needed to get it done and out of there. He was always paranoid when he did these attacks, after five years i think he would be doubly so. He did not want to get caught because he got rusty at his 'job.'
I dont know about him being able to stare down anyone as he beat them to death in the head. He made a lot of gruesome threats to victims about what he was going to do to them if they didnt behave, and he never did them when they then misbehaved. I think he just wanted to kill these people, period. And bludgeoning mustve felt good to do, for him. More cathartic than shooting? If he wanted to destroy them or look in their faces while he killed them, he could have for sure. Im sure there are ways to accomplish that. The sheet over them was practical, but why bother to kill someone if its in an unsatisfying way? IE, if he really wanted to see their faces and bludgeon them, he would have found a way, because this guy fantasized in great detail and came prepared. He just wanted them dead. The only 'message' he was sending was personal, between him and all the women/couples of the world. His personal revenge.

I wonder if the Cruz murder didnt happen because in the dormant years he actually did have a gf or wife and that she wanted to end it, then, and that kicked it all off again, and he picked Janelle because she was a 'whore'. (ie someone he could never have, and all the old feelings came back and he needed to get 'control' back. Ie dominate and obliterate.)

I also think, and this is just a theory, Id have to go back and look at all of the reports which is exhausting and enraging to be certain, but i think he was meaner to the women who were considered most beautiful. I think Charlene and Janelle would probably qualify. In that case, maybe it was her beauty that enraged him and caused him to deliberately ruin it.
I thought it odd that her mom said at one point that people thought Janelle was stuck up, and I found it odd why she should feel she needed to defend her about this, seemingly out of the blue. Maybe he came across her somewhere, a store, work, and she gave him attitude. Or maybe he just observed her and inferred she was a stuck up * who needed to be punished?

I thought i read that she fought him, because the crime scene showed a struggle from the living room back to her bedroom. If thats the case, then I can see him just going to town on her, because thats how he reacted whenever someone fought back. Also, she was bludgeoned with a wrench, or a steel pipe, yes? That would cause more damage, faster and easier than a log

Maybe he encountered her during her work and followed her home. It would be good if the people who worked with Janelle shortly before the crime are reinterviewed. If he was in Irvine for an event and he went to get some food. There is a slim possibility that they would remember him if something unusual occured.

Interesting summary, what really caught my eye was your reasoning about all the old feelings coming back and him being meaner to the women considered most beautiful i.e. Charlene & Janelle.........; my theory is that Janelle was targeted because of her resemblance to Charlene and this might tie in with what you said regarding old feelings......., Colleen Cason wrote that Janelle and Charlene looked as if they could be sisters and I believe this is very significant because by 1986 EAR was well and truly "retired" having gone quiet for almost 5 years , hence something compelling had to drag him back into his game

the murder of Janelle stands out as it was not part of a spree compared to the murders between 1979 and 1981 -this to me suggests Janelle was targeted specifically and the fact EAR went quiet after Janelle is also revealing ..........

I dont know about him being able to stare down anyone as he beat them to death in the head. He made a lot of gruesome threats to victims about what he was going to do to them if they didnt behave, and he never did them when they then misbehaved. I think he just wanted to kill these people, period. And bludgeoning mustve felt good to do, for him. More cathartic than shooting? If he wanted to destroy them or look in their faces while he killed them, he could have for sure. Im sure there are ways to accomplish that. The sheet over them was practical, but why bother to kill someone if its in an unsatisfying way? IE, if he really wanted to see their faces and bludgeon them, he would have found a way, because this guy fantasized in great detail and came prepared. He just wanted them dead. The only 'message' he was sending was personal, between him and all the women/couples of the world. His personal revenge.

I wonder if the Cruz murder didnt happen because in the dormant years he actually did have a gf or wife and that she wanted to end it, then, and that kicked it all off again, and he picked Janelle because she was a 'whore'. (ie someone he could never have, and all the old feelings came back and he needed to get 'control' back. Ie dominate and obliterate.)

I also think, and this is just a theory, Id have to go back and look at all of the reports which is exhausting and enraging to be certain, but i think he was meaner to the women who were considered most beautiful. I think Charlene and Janelle would probably qualify. In that case, maybe it was her beauty that enraged him and caused him to deliberately ruin it.
I thought it odd that her mom said at one point that people thought Janelle was stuck up, and I found it odd why she should feel she needed to defend her about this, seemingly out of the blue. Maybe he came across her somewhere, a store, work, and she gave him attitude. Or maybe he just observed her and inferred she was a stuck up * who needed to be punished?

I thought i read that she fought him, because the crime scene showed a struggle from the living room back to her bedroom. If thats the case, then I can see him just going to town on her, because thats how he reacted whenever someone fought back. Also, she was bludgeoned with a wrench, or a steel pipe, yes? Interesting summary, what really caught my eye was your reasoning about all the old feelings coming back and him being meaner to the women considered most beautiful i.e. Charlene & Janelle.........; my theory is that Janelle was targeted because of her resemblance to Charlene and this might tie in with what you said regarding old feelings......., Colleen Cason wrote that Janelle and Charlene looked as if they could be sisters and I believe this is very significant because by 1986 EAR was well and truly "retired" having gone quiet for almost 5 years , hence something compelling had to drag him back into his game

You could be right. But that's implying that he had a thing for Charlene. I dont know that anything would indicate that. All of his victims didnt look like Charlene. The ones he picked directly after didnt, either.

I dont know but, I dont think it was lust that drove this killing, I think it was some big stressor in his life that sent him out on the hunt again. I dont think it was seeing her and being reminded of Charlene, and all the 'good' times, and that made him want to experience it again. It could be, but to me it sounds like the longshot.

Interestingly enough some knowledgeable people believe that the murders of the Smiths (and the Harrington`s) were EAR`s perfect crimes and what he wanted the crime to be .............based on this I am inclined to believe he had a thing for Charlene,after all she was quite attractive and he stole and kept her personal jewellery which certainly suggests she figured in his thoughts years later....
Regarding the resemblance I have only seen a few low resolution pics of Charlene and Janelle but given the amount of research Colleen Cason put into this case when she wrote her articles I believe she had access to a lot more pictures of the two women thus I am inclined to believe her assessment of there being some resemblance between Charlene and Janelle...

Yes the victims dont all share a resemblance but its quite interesting that in Charlene`s case EAR took her personal jewelery yet with Manuella , Cheri and Pati I have not heard of that being the case................unless I am wrong, does anyone if personal jewelery belonging to Cheri,Manuella,Patti or Janelle was taken by EAR ?

Yeah, I dont know. The victims of ear all lived to tell what he had stolen, not the murder victims. From what it looked like, he took souvenirs all the time, rings, pictures...

Im not a person in the know, as you say. But a lot of people who have posted on this board and were said to be in the know, seem not to be. In some old threads some people were seriously believing that earons had made an account here because they found a person who named their profile EAR. Now whats more likely: a highly private serial killer like earons makes an account for himself here, even though there was no information about him on here at all (so what would the draw for him be?), and names himself EAR (not even EARONS, but maybe he has amnesia); or a random nonserial killing person who happens to have three names, like most people in the english speaking world, used their initials to name their account? Dont answer; I know what's more likely.

This is one active theory and would explain some issues with alibis etc, but don't forget how unreliable eyewithess testimony often is. Two people seeing exactlky the same thing or the same person often give widely diverging accounts, descriptions. Ask any cop.

What is the general consensus about the accuracy of the composite with the mustache from the Maggoire murders? Is it accurate and is this what EAR looked like?

The reason I ask is because my POI that I am looking at is a dead ringer for this drawing. I have shown this composite to people who also know this POI with no prompting or clues to why I am asking and they have all, to a person, said "That looks just like (POI)." That resemblence, added to many other matches to the EAR's physical and psychological profiles, has me excited, but I don't know if the composite resemblence has any value or not.

Yes I have heard 2 versions, One, that he had been located and cleared. Two, that it was actually a mistake and was a sketch of Brian Maggiore. The witness had seen Maggiore running trying to escape, and thought he was actually the criminal and not the victim.

guessting responded, "That is the sketch that is often referred to as "Brian Maggiore" some thought the witness was referring to Brian and not the killer by accident.

So. Now guessting is saying the 2rd from the right on the 2nd row may actually be Brian Maggiore (as he ran from his killer.)

When these sketches popped up on the board THE MUSTACHED one (2nd row, far right) was said to perhaps be Maggiore. The story of the murders (guys walking together before. guys 1,2, or 3 fleeing during and/or after) ....the origin of the sketches, wow, it'd be great if this could be annotated. Then we could talk back and forth with some idea of what we're discussing.

Releasing new recordings of EAR..

I am currently working with detectives on releasing some additional EAR recordings on Arch's website. It is going to take a bit of time but this will be one of the new releases. Also seeing if I can release some additional writings (poems) no word for certain on the poems yet. Do have the go ahead on the recordings. g

The investigators have seen how the release of case information and the resulting publicity has actually impeded the investigation. It was an invitation to the Lunatic Fringe. I am dealing with this myself. The only leads that I receive now are of a very low quality. Movieman pointed this out in a post about the proper vetting of suspects. I like how the Police are now back to complaining about all the crazy leads they get. Yet Arch goes on to say that his leads lately are all low quality. Which means that when the book came out they were higher quality. So then going public in the past has lead to better leads. What if the unabomber task force had sat on the manifesto? Would they of ever caught him? The police need to quit complaining about how hard it is to sort through the leads. That's the job. How many cases has America's Most Wanted solved by going public. Would Elizabeth Smart be planning her wedding if AMW was afraid of too many crappy leads from the lunatic fringe. How many garbage leads did they get before they solved that case. Yet John Walsh always makes a point of thanking the people who call in tips even though half of the people that call are nuts and 99% of the leads are garbage. The Police do not know who this guy is, but someone out there does. The only way to find that someone is to encourage people to call in tips and then sort through and rank the leads. The best way to get someone new to call in is to release new information and generate publicity.
Well-said, Repoman. If I'd have spent thirty-five years on Plan A, I'd switch to Plan B before EAR/ONS is dead.

I understand LE's time and money constraints/limitations. I also understand the other issues such as statute considerations in NorCal and the like that f1 has alluded to many times. But I have to say I agree with Repo, Conq, Sandia, akwilks, and dengas. Isnt it time for someone to go for it already? Last time I checked my math May of 1986 was about 25 1/2 years ago and June of 1976 was 35 1/2 years ago. Its like watching that football coach that never goes for it on 4th down, always kicks the field goal or punts, always takes the conservative route. Those coaches are painful to watch and they play not to lose instead of going for the win. I have always said the key to this case is publicity and I will continue to say it. If EAR was 24 in 1976 then that would make him roughly 60 today. People who knew him that could turn him in are going to start dropping dead of old age. Someone in a position of power needs to take a bold step already...

I've always been the guy who would rather ask for forgiveness than permission. Got me in trouble a few times in my business life too. But I know how organizations work. And what happens to the pioneers especially in the public sector. You can spot 'em real easy. They're the ones with the arrows in their backs.
BTW, the new police chief in Rancho Cordova was a Sac Sheriffs deputy for 20 years before taking her new gig. Before being a Sheriffs Deputy she was an EMT. I'm guessing she knows all about EAR.

This technology, as an identification device, is superfluous in the presence of a DNA profile. Presumably, it could be used to confirm that multiple recordings belong to the same voice (as an authentication device). I wonder if Guessting is at liberty to share the dates of the authenticated communications. These dates may have bearing on demise hypotheses: Did ONS die of HIV-AIDS? As you all know, other demise hypotheses have been entertained.

Having reviewed all the foregoing posts on this thread, I now understand that this 'new' information will not be released after all. Although, as the flame war with CP has demonstrated, more information is not necessarily better than less information if the new information subtracts from the set of facts we know about the case--working from the assumption that one can only know what is true; there is no doubt that new information, regardless of quality, is likely to reinvigorate the case by raising its profile. False leads can yield knowledge. This is a desperate measure, I admit, but the trail couldn't be colder. I am mostly a spectator on this board as I haven't yet read Crompton's book. I do want you all to know that I read this board with great interest and am grateful to those of you that are working assiduously on this case in good faith with the right intentions. (Please note that I do not condone wantonly propagating wildly speculative or confabulated data--only data, which there is good reason to take seriously but cannot be verified once and for all).

Things that only occur once or twice during series..

I was thinking today that there are some things that have not been discussed or mentioned before. At least I am unaware of it if they have been. In my opinion these are things that are somewhat unique because they only have come up once or twice in the series of rapes and murders (to the best of my knowledge). I was thinking that maybe they could in some small way be important, maybe not, but I thought they are worth talking about or at the very least knowing about. If anyone else can think of things that fit in this category maybe you could add them as well.

I am double checking to see if anyone has a problem with me posting a photo of the security badge found. I have so far not encountered any resistance so I will have it up tomorrow if I don't hear anything else about it. g



* *Stolen typewriter: In one of the EAR cases in Sacramento a "Royal" brand blue metal, with blue metal, with blue fiberglass case 22x14x8. This victim also had her wedding and engagement rings taken (common) and two photos (common) out of her album.

* Wallet missing: Items have been taken from wallets, but generally the wallet has been left behind, taking only a license or SS card or other forms of paper.

* Brought Cloth: not shoe laces, to the scene for ligatures. " LE showed the victim the beige colored knit material of which there were three sections were found, and she stated she had never seen it before. This indicates the the suspect brought with him along with the twine."

* Hairy Buttocks: This is the only time I recall hearing this.

* Smelled like cinammon and had a stale smell.

* Light Feminine Talcum

Visalia attacks VS. EAR

In Visalia there were approxamately 125 homes ransacked and burglarized from April of 1974 until January of 1976. He preferred east to west streets two to one over north-south streets 58-28. His activities were predominately Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Took money in cases, threw female underwear in a more exagerrated manner that other clothes in 45 cases. Opened more than one point of entry so as to have ways to escape. Screens in the same manner as EAR attacks. Left items on the inside of doors as a warning or alarm. Removed money from piggy banks or takes banks and leaves other more valuable items. Ransacked bedrooms, took articles of female underclothing, cosmetics and or one earring from pairs. He stole weapons, all pistols with many other firearms left in plain view. He took 22 ammo, 12 guage shells, or 20 gauge shells. He also tore or took photos of girls or children. Oh and I should not forget to mention the blue chip and green stamps that he took when they were present in the homes. There was fingerprints that left evidence of VR putting lotion on his hands. There were photos torn up and scattered about. EAR had torn photos and one victim found them behind her couch a few weeks after the crime. I think this should provide sufficient evidence that these are the same individual.

In all the VR-EAR and ONS crimes many valuable items, such as money, jewelry and numerous other items that are left in plain sight and less valuable tokens taken. There were fingerprints left in most of the cases. As in EAR cases, some items that were taken were recovered at later scenes. Another significant act that EAR did is leave a bottles of lotions at the scene. This was also done in Visalia.

Other items taken:

T-shirts, pajamas, rings, cell flashlights, coins, necklace, a gold locket with a photo of a baby, perfume, lotions and too many to list.



If you compare the cases in Sacramento it is difficult to not see the similarities in just about everything VR did. I think this should give us some things to discuss. g

VR vs.EAR vs. ONS crime scenes/things in common

Things we know to be common in all of these crime scenes:

I would like to start this thread to see how many points are present in all of these cases. Please help me by adding anything you see that is missing.

VR/EAR/ONS: Food was taken, often eaten at the crimes scene. In both the EAR and ONS crime scenes, beer was opened and consumed at the scenes. Sometimes leaving the can in the backyard of the victims. Goes into the refridgerator in each of these series of crimes. Guns and ammunition. One ear ring. Left money in plain view. Rings.

VR/EAR/ONS: Jewelry, (wedding rings) often times bypassing more valuable jewelry to take less expensive pieces, photographs, VR-blue chip and green chip stamps. VR-Coins, piggy banks, female underclothing, t-shirts, pantyhose, cologne,

EAR/ONS: ligature of choice was black shoe laces, has used white laces, torn towel strips (cloth like material), macrame cord, drapery cord.

EAR/ONS: Knots-granny knot, diamond knot, in the beginning,leaving the ligatures at the crime scenes. As he evolved into the ONS removing or cutting the knots in the ligatures.

EAR Attacks: Often I have heard it stated that EAR only hit single story homes. This is not factual, he hit condo's, duplexes and apartments. His more common attack was single story homes, but he did in fact hit these other residences.

ONS: The covering of the victims before bludgeoning them to death, evolving as he continues. Preventing the spatter of blood on himself. Taking the murder weapon with him.

EAR/ONS: Real Estate Connections, Victims homes and neighboring homes were often up for sale.

Hospitals:Whitthuhn, Cruz and Harrington ties to Santa Ana Hospital. Dr. Offerman, Keith and Patrice Harrington, Janelle Cruz, Alexandria Manning, Whitthuhn all had ties to a medical connection.

VR/EAR/ONS:Footprints and indications of being watched prior to attacks. EAR cases, evidence he had been in the home prior to the attacks. Prowlings reported. Peepings indicated. Burglaries. People saw suspicious men in many of the areas and failed to report. Attemted and foiled burglaries. EAR CASES, Hang up phone calls in these cases to numerous to LE. Surrounding residents homes, including the victims. Often having the victims calls cease a couple of days prior to the attacks. ONS-Manuella Whitthuhn's tape missing from her message machine. Had he called her prior to the attack? Or was Manuella's voice on the tape and he could relive the crime while listening to her voice?

VR/EAR/ONS:Days of the weeks, there seemed to be more activity in all these cases on Wednesday evenings and weekend evenings. In the VR cases, I believe there was only one thursday attack all the reaming attacks were on Wednesday evenings and Friday, Saturday and Sundays. I need to check closely on the ONS cases.

VR/EAR:lubricants, I need to review notes on ONS, I am not sure about lubricants in those cases. Bringing hand lotion to a scene, both VR/EAR.

VR:Taking articles of female underclothing, cosmetics, cologne.

Important sightings, dates and times, vehicles dates, what crimes they were seen at, composites, dates and cases related to, what jurisdiction did they come from, clothing, tools of the trade, such as: Ninja turtle outfit, cross belt with gun and knife, flashlights, belt buckle, rings, boots, tennis shoes, and anything else we need to add to make a complete list.

I will continue going thorugh my notes and adding these points as we go along. Hopefully we can keep this thread focussed on these points. I think it is important for these things to be known. Let's work together on this. If you see something that is incorrect please feel free to correct it. g

I am only aware of a couple of phone calls VR made but as his crimes progressed the phone calls became an important part of the crimes. Another thing I thought of is that during a couple of EAR's rapes he performed an isolated act on a victim. In one rape he had the victim put a pair of high heels on. I was thinking that may of been a practice he witnessed the victim and her spouse do and this may of been his way of letting the victim know he had been watching them. It's just a thought but, like I said there were a few very unique things he did in his rapes. G

Phone calls to Visalia
I'm only aware of a couple of phone calls made to the same house. There was a daughter who went to Mt. Whitney who lived there who was neither in band nor a letterette. This house was ransacked eleven days after Snelling's murder, and the calls were made to the mother of the house (after dad left for work), not the daughter. As guessting said, they were quite obscene.

I'm only aware of a couple of phone calls made to the same house. There was a daughter who went to Mt. Whitney who lived there who was neither in band nor a letterette. This house was ransacked eleven days after Snelling's murder, and the calls were made to the mother of the house (after dad left for work), not the daughter. As guessting said, they were quite obscene.

I strongly believe his underdeveloped penis and testicles are the source of his hatred of women. He was laughed at during intimate encounters with girls. He feels inadequate. His alterative, in his sick mind, is to anonymously "date" through rape. He sees all of his peers dating the hot high school chicks-and he can't. He can't risk the humilliation. He has "relationships" with his victims during the pre-assault stalking/burgularizing. He gets to have what all the other guys have. He eats their food, he rummages and ransacks to get more personal and intimate. He has a huge cache of items that were stolen from his victims-bras, panties, pictures, jewelry etc. Many of his victims and intended vicims are unkowingly missing insignificant items. Most women have no idea how many bras, panties, or shoes that they own-a lot is the most common answer. He is a collector-probably stashed in public storage space .

Child abuse--EAR/ONS?
I recall a case of child abuse where a "mother", if you can call her that, did something insidious to her infant son's penis causing it to shrivel? or I am not sure exactly what the effect was, but I know it was horrific and I don't even want to say on this board exactly what she did to the child. It was discovered and I never found out what happened to the child or the mother. Hopefully the child/baby? was never returned to his disturbed, lunatic of a mother. I don't remember exactly how long ago this occured but I am sure the child would be way too young to be the EAR/ONS. This discussion triggered my memory of this child abuse case and have often wondered what became of that child. I wonder if anything similar could have happened to EAR/ONS. That also could explain his deformity and his rage against women. Actually, I think this is a very remote possibility and unlikely but just thought I'd throw it out there. He did call out "mommy" on occassion.

There are so many possibilities. Besides the possibility of child abuse, I actually have a hunch it might have been the opposite. I wonder if he was actually spoiled, given everything to the point that life was boring to him and he needed to seek excitement in "other" ways. Did his parents throw money and things at him because they were too busy in their own lives to spend time with him. Possibly he didn't even have to work and had too much "leisure" time. He made a point of showing he didn't need money. Currently, I noticed how Casey Anthony's parents, mainly her mother, supported her bad behaviour and covered for her over and over again. They threw a graduation party for her even though she didn't graduate. Continued to support her even though she stole from them and from her grandparents. She accused her father of sexual abuse, and still her mother got on the stand and purjured herself to save her. I wonder if EAR/ONS parents continue to cover for him, turn a blind eye. If they have, they are guilty of murder too in my opinion.

Your point on EAR showing he didnt need money is interesting because I was reading a newspaper article from the 70s saying that EAR stole around $1500 from one house he had been in, you are right about him showing less interest in things that cat burglars like him would have been interested in; another thing is he helped himself to whatever he fancied in peoples houses........this may also be a clue to his upbringing......

I think he lives alone, or has a semi-literate mail-order bride from Latin America or Asia. Someone who would ever ask questions or pry. Someone like Mrs. Rader or Phillip Garrido's wife (has he been eliminated?) He certainly fantasizes about his crimes. He has a cache of his victims' personal belongings that he masturbates to. I'm sure he's still killing, but he's changed his MO. He's probably an abductor, and there are several unsolved abductions of women throughout California. I'm trying to find the story about the woman abducted from her Northern CA home, the baby was left unharmed. She just vanished...the front door was wide open and she was just gone. It was featured on Unsolved Mysteries and I thik America's Most Wanted. I'll try to find the story

V day or not, if you are a recent victim of this particular case...the best thing to do is sit tight and wait it out. Take Cimm's red alert advice..even though he was joking.... Don't date anyone new, or that you feel you can't trust entirely. There are many unknowns. Be very careful. I'm not kidding. It's better to be single than dead. There's that song..."players love you when they're playing..." Well, just play it back on them... and keep notes.

It has apparently hit a nerve with them ...

A lot of the victims could not have really had any enemies, only psycho neighbors, or someone they ran into. I thought he was a wacko who was into drugs, and was scamming/stealing them from Offerman's drug closet, and other medical people.

However the matter of money, land, and trust funds came up recently ...
It is quite common for people fight over money. Then I thought what if they were all over money? I could figure it out completely ...


Then ... a MIRACLE (no not the poster) happened, and I was given the name of the lead suspect from the person who quietly did the research to find him.


I thought she was WRONG, or that she found an associate of theirs ...
I was deeply HORRIFIED to be looking at the same guy who I have seen in the background stalking me. CRAP! So I looked up old photos, he used to have bad hair, and a bad haircut. He really is able to stalk people, and blend. I remember being in grade school, and there he was standing across the street from the school in a suit. I thought he is following you, but I thought why would a normal guy in a suit that looks like a lawyer follow you?


I looked up what he does for a living and realized not only did he steal peoples lives, and torture them, he stalked their family members and stole their land and money. The person who gave me his name says he, and his buddies have killed people for connecting land parcels all the way into 2010.
It is really hideous to find out he has another reason to keep track of his previous victims, and needed their info from drivers licenses for another reason.


All of the victims were compassionate, some were medical professionals who made more of a positive difference in this world then he would in a week.


It is even more horrible to run his data on radaris.com, and see the associated names of others in his household match some of his VICTIMS. The next shock came when I realized the two other individuals everyone was staying mum on are public sports figures. OMG! What a nightmare, the press will go wild with this one.
I would share their names, and info, but I simply can't. I cannot commit slander, nor can I compromise the investigation. These guys have a TON of money now, have lawyered up, and the press will have a wild field day with this one.


This case IS related to the other cases in VA, the Colonial parkway murders, and Morgan Harrington. The suspect grew up on a farm in Virginia. It is only the one accomplice from Visalia who committed all of those horrible crimes of the ransacker.


I feel repeatedly victimized and am even more upset over the motives, and continued crimes he has committed. I even got SO close accidentally chasing some leads on a vehicle, and prank calls from a ballpark field ...

I did not want to believe the theory! I hate this new theory, it makes it messier and is crueler that the original premise that he was a random weirdo. I do not like it, it was not originally my theory, he was not my suspect. However she is correct, she reads this board, and soon we will see some justice (hopefully). The investigation has gotten very low key for a reason, the evidence needs to be perfect, and these guys are lawyered up with a ton of money.

NOTE: He has been caught stalking me this year, and he tried to get a relative of his to weasel into my life. He is related to people in the medical community. I am not sure that they are aware he is a monster, I would hope not. If you are a victim, or related to someone please be aware of your surroundings, and the people who try and step into your life. The poster saved me from having anymore interaction with his family members, in the nick of time. If you are presented with business or personal situations that look to good to be true, plase wait and research them. It is very CREEPY, I gave them my number and I started getting hangups. I would have never have definitively connected the two if it were not for our unsung poster.


I do not think the crimes could be any more disgusting, or cold, until I realized how calculated they were. The answer and suspect will make you madder than ever before.

Caseprofiler I have actively posted on this board and its predecessor since 2004. I have read every post written on both boards AND every site google presents when EAR-ONS, or any variation I can think of, is queried.

I often don't post due to work and family obligations or ACTUALLY BECAUSE I HAVE NO ITEMS OF RELEVANCE TO PUT FORTH.

I felt in response that this was a piling on of the bullies w/ multiple handles. I am not referring to Breccia having mutiple handles BTW.

I commend you for your interest in this case, and the other case. One of the POIs who is a sports figure has ties to Louisiana, and I wonder if he would come back to his relatives homes and commit murders. There is a group of murders around a very small town in LA, where he has family. The victims were not the same type of victim though.

If you do not attack me I will have no reason to say anything back to you.

If the perpetrator of these crimes is still alive and I beleive that he is would it not make sense that he would want to relive his crimes? After all he purposely taunted victims and police for over a decade to get the media attention he so craved. He is proud of what he has done. However, I do not think he is quite as eager as he used to be get media attention. With the discovery of DNA, all it takes is one person who has the courage and the intelligence to put a few facts together. All those years of wearing the mask and gloves to conceal your identity will be for nothing. Unlike Caseprofiler I do not believe that he still calls victims and their families. Too risky. He wants to slither behind the cutain of time and just hope that he can run out the clock and people will stop looking for him. Well its not going to happen.
I know that you most likely never left Sacramento. Why would you want to leave? With 30 different crime scenes to choose from you can relive your sick crimes 10 minutes in any direction. Unlike the murder scenes which have generated great local publicity the addresses of the rapes are not publicly known. No one would know but you why you took an extra 5 minute route to go to the grocery store, or why you like to take your endless bike rides on the American River. Why you would take long drives on your lunch brake to all those neighborhoods. I wonder if you took your loved ones in those rides pretending just to take a Sunday drive through good old Rancho Cordova or Carmichael. When this all over I wonder what your children will feel about you? Your friends?

I know one of the suspects #3 resided there, and went back after his sports career fizzled. There was an article about him getting into trouble with a LE person who was kicked off the force. I never even knew his real name until now, as he was called by his sports nickname.

he is or has killed , given how he followed media reports he probably has become aware of DNA and probably has seen other California serial killers convicted and is probably glad he has not been caught for what he did. You are right about the victims personal belongings I also suspect he keeps them in a "treasure chest" that his wife/girlfriend does not know much about in a place he does not allow her and he probably retreats there every now and then to pull himself off thinking about the rapes.

His Hair

Is it the general consensus that the EAR/ONS had shoulder length Blonde or Dark/Dirty Blonde Hair?I believe this is what his hairstyle was like there was so many witness's who said that prowlers they had seen or suspicious people that had been seen had this type of hair.This is not that common a hairstyle for a man.The only thing that gets me is that the two men who were seen running away from the Maggiore murder scene had short brown hair.There is no mistaking Long Blonde hair for Short Brown hair.Sometimes I am unsure weather he commited the Maggiore Murders but the shoelaces that were found are a big indication that it was EAR.

*The Prowler who shot the young boy had Long Blonde Hair

*A women watched a man trying to pry open her patio door with Long Blonde hair

*Not long before the Sanchez/Domingo murder a women seen a man with a German Shepherd who had long blonde hair.

From what I know of her (we met here on the board and then at a coffee shop in Visalia), she IS A VERY strong woman. At the time that she was being stalked and harassed, she knew nothing of the VR. She was told towards the end that there had been several rapes in her neighborhood, but that was way towards the end of the problems. You have to remember, Visalia Times and LE didn't print much about the VR, other than five year, ten year, twenty-five year anniversaries. The last time there was anything in the paper, Snelling's son requested that the Visalia Times stop, that it opened up old wounds.

Outside. Evidently he heard Beth struggling. The VR and Beth were headed out of the back patio towards the driveway. Mr. Snelling was shot twice, and was headed towards the front of the house when he collapsed.

Homosexual Panic

In Detective Crompton's book, there is mention of the theory of EAR-ONS being in a atate of "homosexual panic". The theory goes on to say to the effect that he was basically trying to prove to himself that he was not homosexual. Since there was evidence that Dr. Offerman was sexually assaulted in some way, one must wonder if the "homosexual panic" theory is substantiated. In Crompton's book, there are more than one instance where EAR canont maintain an erection and EAR weeps and says "sorry mommy". I wonder if he's apologizing to "mommy" for being homosexual. Does anyone want to chime in on this?

Once upon a time I wished Law Enforcement would have have come up with a list of all the possible gas stations Mr. EAR-ONS would have gone to while he was active and hitting in Sacramento.... and when they came up with a list of gas stations.... then they should have planted undercover cops at these gas stations where they'd be next to the cash register area posing as blind beggars wanting a handout or something.... and because they would be posing as blind beggars and such, they would have a Guide Dog besides them.... but these "Guide Dogs" would actually be Bloodhounds who were trained to start going crazy when they detected the scent of Mr. EAR-ONS....

I wonder if this was actually done.....

I want to know if this sounds crazy to anyone...

I feel a great deal of sadness for this conflicted tortured M.P.D. ..Seems was a victim of some sort of sexual assault / trauma at a very young age. Obviously mom was one of "those cold types", blames the child, makes him feel alone or inferior..no-one will believe him anyway. Religious? Catholic maybe..but something at home..she cannot have scandal.

Poor kid never had a chance I bet, where the mind goes it is usually lead at such a young age.

He would of needed a good strong example to emulate in order to feel such bouts of power or confidance. But I do not sense a sociopath , there is still shame, regret, apology ....it is too sad to think about..

I'd bet money that the EAR/ONS was not an M.P.D. case.

Yes, I feel he was mentally ill, but I feel that the manifestations of that illness were his rapes, murders, and other crimes. Serial rapists and murderers are all mentally ill, in some way, otherwise they'd not do what they do. But, this does not release them from accountability. No clear line can be drawn between one type of crime and another, with respect to mental health; you could argue that 90% of all crimes are manifestations of some sort of mental illness or developmental trauma, from embezzlement up to murder. The judicial system, though flawed, exists for a number of reasons: to rehabilitate those who can be rehabilitated (this is largely the flawed part, as I think the system inadvertantly nurtures criminal minds rather than redresses them, but that's another discussion), to deter potential criminals from offending by virtue of example, and to protect society from those who pose a threat to the welfare of its citizens.

The EAR may or may not have suffered some childhood trauma or pervasive pattern of abuse. Most who experience such traumas or abuse don't become serial rapists and killers. Many serial rapists and killers did not suffer substantial childhood abuse (Rader and Ridgway, for instance). Each case is different, and the makeup of a serial predator is a confluence of many factors, some of which are probably present at birth.

But... Shame, regret, apology? Where is evidence of this? If there were shame, regret, or apology, EAR/ONS would have marched into the nearest accessible police agency and turned himself in long ago—though it's certainly not too late for this moderately-to-minimally redemptive gesture. If the EAR were not a sociopath, he'd have turned himself in before escalating to homicide (let alone, ten or more homicides). If the EAR were not a sociopath, he'd not have remained silent while others, such as Joe Alsip, were persecuted and even prosecuted for his crimes.

There's no trace of shame, regret, or apology in "Excitement's Crave," the poem he composed and sent to media/law enforcement. In fact, there's pride, rationalization, and arrogance.

I'm typically not one to get righteous about this case, as I am not motivately purely or primarily by a desire to see justice done; I am simply compelled to know who the EAR/ONS is. But when you describe EAR/ONS in terms such as "poor kid," and seem to be apologizing on his behalf, I'm disturbed that your sympathies for the perpetrator are intact, but your sympathies for the many lives destroyed or taken are absent.

I think the reason he killed was simply out of embarrassment....i think he knew them.

I am curious, having turned in material for test almost two years ago. I have to have some closure of my own...since he hung himself last month....his ex wife of 26 years having said " this was the best thing", had him cremated right away...he was catholic [ baptized] , a " very troubled man" in her words. they have 2 grown kids..one has CF. I have witnessed a foaming at the mouth like nothing I have seen before..I likened this to the egg in that if the blood antigen were absent..perhaps it is like the yolk which keeps the whites from foamy peak. But mostly I guess...it was he himself that caused me to look again .. I was into a fetish scene for a while...met an oddfellow who fit the average white guy desciption and flew between the areas in question. I had felt strange about him, remembered that and called in my weak tip...when I shared about the case my handsome athletic mostly appropriate hero listened seeming disinterested, until i said, " so I called". That he spun around looking ..kind of stunned..in disbelief really, " You Called!?"

I would hope that LE would not just leave me living in a constant state of distrust and uncertainty for years ...they have blood you know...he had a potential dui and had insisted on blood. he moved back from cross country once the charge was reduced .
I have to know..Am I crazy? Did I do the right thing..I need closure too. The man who was my world is not ever going to call again. I feel awful....just awful..either way.

His response prompted my deeper curiousity. Now that i feel someone is paying attention perhaps I better vent...

Here is a short list:

VW bus pontiac shoelaces , hid hardcore fetish material, Loved his children, treated me as one of them often, MD..lots of maps....lots of maps and flashlights and batteries and the same brand shoes by every door, a sailor with crazy long vision. constant traveler switches rentals from one airport to next sometimes left parked weeks, was married to affluence "old money" refferred to financial advisory as being mob connected rather in disgust, parents/family..educated..mostly doctors / men of science, father Nuclear Physicist { appointed to Fords Cabinet}, related to "the hubbels", { yes the telescope}, Had bragged about losing the secret service all the time with his older female sibling...[ who more obviously has mental and emotional challenges almost never observed in her brother whom she constantly manipulates and often holds captive on the phone for hours at a time ..daily}

He also saved my life, and almost fell over himself trying to reach me when my blood pressure dropped so low i lost my legs and crumpled to the floor. He was panicked, concerned...i am an empath... i felt his fear. I tell you I am begging for proof on the contrary ...so ...please help me out here?
