Wonderland Murders?

I was running some checks on seniors at Cordova High School 1976, 1975, 1974 etc who had relations to Rancho Cordova, Contra Costa areas, Santa Barbara areas, Ventura areas and Irvine areas who fit and match description of EAR.

Maybe this has been discussed before, but in looking at the Sophomore class Cordova High in 1974 and the Senior class of 1976 I ran across Barbara Lee Richardson (Easton) who graduated in Rancho Cordova 1976 a few weeks before the EAR attacks began and who was murdered in the Wonderland murders July 1, 1981 in Los Angeles a few weeks before The Original Night Stalker last know murder or attack in Goleta July 26/27 1981.

David Lind was a member of the Aryan Brotherhood in Sacramento and was the boyfriend of Barbara Lee Richardson(Easton) in the Rancho Cordova/ Sacramento area.

David Lind and Ron Launius were from Sacramento area and met in prison(Folsom?) Ron Launius was the leader of the Wonderland gang who were robbers, burglars and drug dealers. They were from the Sacramento area.

David Lind prior to the murders in 1981 had been incarcerated several times for burglary, forgery, assault, and assault with intent to commit rape.

David Lind graduated in Lodi 1961, he was about 35-36 when the EAR began and I don’t believe he had blue eyes. But otherwise one piece of circumstance was that David Lind had a diagonal front chipped tooth since junior high and that is an excellent reason to talk with clenched teeth as well.

He died in November 1995 but there are rumors of the witness protection program. I don’t believe David is the EAR/ONS and I am sure he has been ruled out but something about the timeline, places, people and events are surreal.

Interesting. Wearing a mask to conceal your identity while committing a crime I can understand but I always thought it was no coincidence that EAR's mask covered his mouth too. Something about his mouth he is self conscious about. Perhaps too, something about his hands, scars, disfiguration, tattoos. Mouth and hands, something there that he knew would identify him. Something unique other than fingerprints of course.

I know there are different kinds of "bikers" and I have no way of knowing who or what anyone involved in the entire EAR case was like except what I read.
Through recognition of patterns I somehow relate gang, robbers, burglars and drug dealers to the words "biker guy" as mentioned in 'Sudden Terror'. But how am I to know whether "biker guy" means a guy who rides a moped around picking up aluminum cans or if it means a guy who soaks a new pair of Levi's in motor oil and wears them for two weeks before taking them off?

I knew little about the Wonderland murders and had no idea about the Sac connections to some of the main players. Ron Launius was one of the people convicted of smuggling heroin in the dead bodies of military personnel and was in the AF during Nam? They were also redoing old cars to use in drug smuggling? I hope they were checked out for possible connections to the Maggiore murders. Maybe not EAR, but maybe an accomplice or two of his?

There is a thread here somewhere - will dig up the link for you - that has a very good composite of the EAR (*since I don't actually know if it is a "good" composite, let me correct myself and say it is a detailed composite) as seen by a victim wearing a mask that exposed most of his face. The composite was compared to the composite of the man who shot the young man who pursued a prowler (cannot remember his name at the moment) and the similarities were striking. There is a second, less detailed composite of the EAR wearing this same mask — both these composites drawings and all the others (mostly of suspicious persons seen near where attacks took place, and mostly released long after-the-fact when they were practically useless) are available for viewing in the thread.

Then go to page two to see the excellent work done by a member who superimposed the composite from the shooting onto the open-faced mask — the two faces are almost identical and may be the best glimpse we have at the EAR's face at that point in time.

Your comments are fascinating.  I do know a little about the Wonderland Murders, mostly as a result of the well-known film released about ten years ago.

A couple of responses to your comments.  It has been rumored, which means that this assertion may be totally false, that David Lind had close ties to one or more individuals close to the current Governor of California.

Secondly, while I don't think that Lind was the Original Night Stalker, I think it is at least remotely plausible to consider that he and drug overlord Ron Launius may have had some connection to the Maggiore murders.  Much additional research would be needed, however, to carry this theory further.

Please keep digging.  I think your ideas merit further consideration.

I have been fascinated by the Wonderland Murders also. I hope if you find some more info you will post it. Interesting to me also is the fact that the robbery of Nash's house was just a mile or so away from the condos where Vicki Morgan and, four years later, Barry Crane, were bludgeoned to death. Vicki Morgan was also bludgeoned with a baseball bat. I don't know what you think about the murder trial of her roommate, Pancoast. I thought it was crap.

I wonder too if John Holmes, Paul Barresi, and Peter North ever hung out and had coffee and talked shop. Or if Cornfed had any dealings with Lind.

I am curious also about what you found in regards to the Colorado Hammer Man murders.

I have thought that the MO for the Cruz murder was very different from the Goleta and Ventura murders too. And I suppose that if the murders had happened a year ago and the samples collected and processed now, I would have a great deal more faith in the results. But the samples were taken thirty years ago. And even after the posts earlier today about codis and the like, I am still not sure they would have been checked against each other unless someone from CO and CA met somewhere and compared them and then announced they were different. I know how things are supposed to work in a perfect world, and then I know how things work in the real world. Until it is announced by CO LE I wont rule it out.

But there are enough similarities in the Hammer Man murders to what I have found important in the ONS murders for me to keep an open mind about them. When I think about Raytheon and Aerojet were building, and the proximity that the ear and ons crimes had to the CA military bases, then I find it not impractical to consider that earons might have had a reason to be living and working in that area of Colorado near Buckley AFB. But if you have concrete prrof, I would like to know so I can move on to other cases.

That is what makes the EAR rapes somewhat baffling. Rape is rape regardless of how well endowed the perpetrator is. At the same time it makes me wonder how
and why something so small could have such an insatiable appetite. The way he always lubes it up as if necessary.  Very peculiar to say the least. All of the pre planning, stalking, following, watching, staying
vigilant, taking utmost care to stay in the shadows and remain unnoticed, unseen, and for what ultimately? The need to Terrorize is the monkey on his back imo.

As for Janelle, I believe the only difference in MO is that she was a fighter and he was rusty and it got out of hand, she tried to run, he cracked her in the kitchen, she fled again towards the doorway and he cracked her again. He already had some blood on him presumably during that struggle and made it a point to cover her head not to get even more blood on him. I I think possible the 5 year hiatus was his retirement until he saw Janelle and wanted to do "just one more".

Of course two high profile serial killers DNA have been cross checked between Colorado and California. It is a screenshot with a “hey, look familiar? DNA last a very long time 30 years is nothing if preserved. They have DNA from Jack the Ripper days.

I don't believe he was in the military at the time of Rancho Cordova or So Cal, I believe he possibly was in prior or has a father in the military or close relative.

Those are excellent points.

I suppose ons had a script of how each crime should go, but once they deviated from his plans, I have a hard time interpreting what was planned and what wasn't. And MO seems to be so fluid in terms of the neighborhood and the victims. Speaking subjectively, I would think he made mistakes just like everyone I know does. Maybe he didn't say what he planned to say or during the heat of the moment, he forgot to follow his planned MO. From what I have read, the ONS crimes and the Bennett Family murders were brutal and intense. What type of person could be expected to follow a planned MO throughout? I have a hard enough time just ordering at the drive thru of the local burger joint.

I get that once the DNA is processed it is just a set of numbers. In that regard it should have been easy to connect the various ear ons crimes. But it doesn't seem like it was. It should have been easy to check them against known poi's. But it doesn't seem like it was. Just look at the problems they had checking on Mr. Y. If the crimes happened today, would LE have just done DNA samples of the blood evidence or would they have checked the entire crime scene for possible DNA clues? Wouldn't they have taken better care of the poem, the punishment page and map drawing, and the other evidence that Sac through away? Could they have checked the Apollo Air business card for DNA? Or the car that was impounded and then found to have a stash of weapons, ammunition, and wig inside the trunk? The Cruz residence should have had numerous DNA and fingerprint samples since the house was up for sale. Did LE save any of these? Is there a file that contains the various unaccounted for DNA and fingerprints found at the crime scenes? Do they check these against the pois also? When they exhumed the body of the man whom the FBI said was the owner of the fingerprint found on the lamp, did they take a DNA of sample of him also? It seems from my point of view that LE is taking a very passive attempt in locating the DNA. Basically just waiting for someone to show up with a matching sample. 

One poster stated that the decision to release the DNA description was up to the discretion of the State of California. They should release it. Set up a $50,000 reward and release the DNA. I would think the case would be solved with in 6 months.

While I like the idea of him being impotent from drug use, I simply don't believe he was ever hard. Ever. What he was doing was called "prairie dogging". This phenomenon happens when a man can't get it up, whether it's due to mentality or physicality, it just won't happen so he basically plays it off anyway. This means having the sex with a flaccid, or possibly even only a fraction of their penis... or only the penis and not the rest of the schlong. Those victims stating that he was fully aroused may be questionable, due to the fact that a man practicing the art of prairie dogging might be able to pull off the "look" of arousal.
