Yes, the perfect "training" for breaking into an urban home and raping an individual is to have previous experience of breaking into an urban home. That's why I suspect EAR committed Visalia type crimes, though im not saying he was the Ransacker. If we ever find this guy I put more likelihood on him having a criminal record as a youth (and possibly spent time in that university of crime, a state institution) rather than him being special forces in Nam.
Im also wary of certain books promoting EAR as possibly being from law enforcement. To me that smells of LE giving excuses as to why LE failed.
I know Law Enforcement in Cleveland failed to locate Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight after they went missing. They were kidnapped, kept as the perp's home were they were bound, beaten, and raped. LE had all these different possible leads. They harassed Amanda's ex-boyfriend to the max. Who was the perpetrator? Ariel Castro, a close friend of the DeJesus'. How were the girls found? They were found 10 years after they went missing when Amanda decided to make a break for it. Two neighbors heard her screaming. Some people, if you can believe it, ignored her before two men finally decided to see what was going on and helped her break free.
The police had suspicion to believe Amanda and Gina were abducted by the same person, but they had no idea Michelle was even a missing person. They assumed she ran away from home. Ariel himself said that he couldn't believe they didn't catch him because he goofed so many times and they had an opportunity to catch him.
One disturbing part is that Castro went to several gatherings for the DeJesus'. Helping hand out fliers and offering support.
Law Enforcement had no clue about this guy or a guy like him. However, those close to Castro knew how evil he was as a person, but friends and neighbors never had a clue. They saw him as a nice guy. Always smiling and always willing to lend a helping hand.
It just comes to show how tricky these things are.
I didnt mean to give the impression that I believed for sure EAR had a criminal record prior to this case. I just think law of averages suggest he's more likely to be from that sort of background than any other. Your average burglar or thief often learn from others burglars and thieves.
