Conditt headed the internal affairs unit that investigates agent wrongdoing for the Office of Professional Responsibility at FBI headquarters in Washington from 1999 until his retirement in June 2001, the FBI said. He wrote articles in law enforcement journals on how police agencies could effectively investigate their own conduct. FBI officials said Tuesday they had no information to suggest that Conditt had any problems during his career and he was never the subject of an investigation.
Tarrant County Assistant District Attorney Mitch Poe, who prosecuted the case, said he wanted a longer prison sentence and was skeptical of Conditt's claim that his molestation of children subsided during his FBI career.
"Both myself and the judge in open court, we were kind of skeptical but we don't have any evidence," Poe said.
A recently retired FBI whistle blower who brought allegations to Conditt's office that agents had not aggressively pursued evidence of sexual abuse in Indian country said Tuesday she now questions whether his personal history affected that decision.
"Before, it never made any sense," retired agent Jane Turner said of the FBI's decision to decline to further investigate her allegations. "Now I can understand. Why in the world wouldn't you want to investigate that?"
Goldsmith said he was concerned about the safety of his client in prison given that he is a former FBI agent and an admitted child molester. "He's not going to be comfortable in the penitentiary," the lawyer said.

Goldsmith said his client had admitted that he had molested at least two other girls before he became an FBI agent more than 30 years ago, but that there was no evidence of any wrongdoing while he served in the bureau.

"It seems that he never did because he had stricter control at that time," the lawyer said.

It certainly was hard for Connolly, the disgraced former agent. He grew up in a South Boston housing project and bragged that his credentials as a "hometown boy" gave him special access to the New England underworld.
In 1975, Connolly recruited mob boss James "Whitey" Bulger, a childhood friend, as an informant. The relationship lasted nearly 20 years and was corrupt to the core. Connolly protected Bulger, tipping him to investigations into his activities and even identifying disloyal members of his gang. Bulger reciprocated with information about his mob competitors.
Connolly became a star in the FBI, and Bulger and his associates enjoyed a kind of impunity as they ran drugs, continued gambling operations and did away with rivals.
Connolly delivered bribes from Bulger to an FBI supervisor. He wrote an anonymous letter on Boston police stationery that accused a local detective of falsifying evidence against Bulger and his top lieutenant, Stephen "The Rifleman" Flemmi.
Four years after retiring from the bureau, Connolly tipped Bulger in 1994 that he was about to be indicted on extortion, murder and racketeering charges. Bulger disappeared and remains on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted list.
Back in 1983, Connolly taped an FBI training video in which he warned new agents against becoming too cozy with gangsters. "You can get friendly with them and you can like them," he said. "But you can never forget who you work for and that you're an FBI agent."

Rodriguez tried at least once, in 1961, to assassinate Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. In 1967, Rodriguez interrogated and executed South American revolutionary Che Guevara. The security has been beefed up since 9/11, and the guards reportedly include retired C.I.A. and F.B.I. agents, practiced at spotting infiltrators. Then came Viet Nam and the hippies. Karate and the Martial Arts in general hit a new low. Ed Parker and I closed our dojo in 1971 and I went to work for him at his West L.A. location. I continued there for several years and at the same time completed courses at L.A.C.C. in filmmaking. Which proved fortuitous in more ways than one.

One of Vic's locations on the desert was teaching the officers and enlisted men and their families at an Air Force Base. In 1988 the government announced the closing of that base. The people in the classes panicked. How were they going to complete their training? Where would they go for Kenpo when they were transferred? Some of his students became very upset so Vic tried to think of a way in which they might continue their training. More specifically, they really wanted to continue under his instruction.

Myford Irvine Dies
One of the bodies which would soon be buried on the hill overlooking the ocean in Pacific View Memorial Park was that of Myford Irvine.

On January 11, 1959 Myford Plum Irvine's body was found in the basement of the Irvine family home. Myford, a man who knew a lot about guns, had - according to the coroner's report - shot himself twice in the abdomen with a .16-gauge shotgun, and once in the right temple with a .22 caliber revolver. The findings of the coroner, based on no evidence of foul play and powder burns on Myford's left index and middle fingers, termed the death suicide.

Interesting that Myford, who was right handed, used his left hand to shoot himself - twice in the abdomen in the first attempt, and since that didn't seem to kill him, he then apparently crawled across the basement floor and finished the job by shooting himself in the right temple.

To justify the reason such a gentle man as Myford would want to take his own life at 60 years of age, stories of gambling and unhappiness began to surface. A sampling of the stories included: underworld figures had demanded immediate payment of promised monies; the house his wife Gloria wanted in Corona del Mar was too pretentious for his taste, and he was embarrassed to have to move there; too many people had their hand out for gifts from The Irvine Company; and, he was having difficulties coping with the responsibilities of the agricultural holdings after Brad Hellis resigned.

Rich Bassett, a close friend, had no idea that Myford gambled. "Myford didn't gamble at all, as far as I knew. When they installed parking meters close to the Rotary Club, Myford refused to waste a nickel in the meter, choosing instead to park down the street a block or two."

On the day of Myford's funeral, the directors of the Irvine Foundation met and elected Loyall McLaren president of the foundation and Arthur McFadden vice president of the foundation and president of The Irvine Company.

This excerpt is from Arthur Jones memoirs also. He was Hetrick's father in law. There are numerous must reads in these memoirs. G Gordon Liddy makes an appearance, Jones and him were friends. Delorean, in the Rolling Stone article, also mentions that Liddy called him.

him. I had a lot of friends in those days who were retired FBI agents, and most of these old-timers knew what they were
doing; if Steve had bothered to look over his shoulder during that trip he might have noticed the two men who followed
him everywhere he went, who sat behind him on the plane, who stood next to him when he was taking a *, who were
next in line when he was renting a car, who ate at the next table in all of the restaurants that he visited, and so on.



Over the following years, several somewhat similar situations occurred, but only one other came anywhere close
to a shoot-out, and that was avoided when I jerked a Thompson sub-machinegun out of an agent’s hands on the Miami
airport during the middle of a hurricane; but that’s another story.
Strangely enough, years later I became very friendly with many of these same agents; some of them remain close
friends to this day. In 1984, the Chief of Customs in this area of Florida declared my private airport an ‘international
port of entry’ so that I could land my personal big jet there with 63 African elephants on board, following a direct flight
from an island off the coast of Africa. Another Customs agent, on leave because of an injured leg, made a long trip to
Thailand and Hong Kong with me; but that, too, comes later.
Most of the Federal agents that I got to know over the years were ‘hard cases,’ so we had a lot in common; and
when they got to know me, and realized that I was not involved in criminal activity of any kind, they both liked and
respected me.

Bo was the pilot of heavy bombers during the Second World War, flew more than fifty missions out of North
Africa and Italy; and when he returned to this country at the end of the war it required three men to carry his cash
winnings off the ship that he came back on, money he made in crooked poker games and crooked dice games. He was
able to get by with such cheating on a massive scale by involving his commanding officer, then Colonel, later General,
Travis; the man after whom Travis Airforce Base was later named. Bo always managed to arrange things so that the

In places like South American, you make little or no attempt to capture wild animals yourself, because the local
Indians can provide them in great numbers at a price far below anything you could manage by your own efforts in that
direction; you could not work for less than a dollar a day, but that was a fortune to the local Indians. At that time, we
were paying an average of eighty cents for a squirrel monkey, and were exporting about 1,100 of these every week to
this country, together with several hundred other animals, birds and reptiles of a wide variety. The business was almost
a printing press for money, and Sargent obviously saw this very clearly.



When I realized just what had happened while I was away, I was tempted to kill Ray Olive; in any sane society I
would have been required to kill him; and I did everything I could think of to goad him into an attack on me that would
have made it possible to kill him in self defense; I sat him down in his car, laid a loaded pistol down on the seat beside
him, and then read him the riot act in such an insulting manner that no self-respecting man would have been willing to
sit there and listen to it; I wanted him to reach for the gun, but he did not.

Just how insulting can you get? Well, among other things, I made him tell me, in great detail and in front of
several witnesses, about his sexual experiences with his mother; which may or may not have ever occurred, although in
light of things I learned later I strongly suspect did occur; but, true or false, he told me all about it.

Award will benefit programs for wound healing, reconstructive surgery

Major Gen. William Lyon, USAF (Ret.) and his wife Willa Dean Lyon recently gave the division of plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Keck School of Medicine a $2 million gift to fund wound healing research and programs that provide free reconstructive surgery and education for impoverished children worldwide.
According to Randy Sherman, holder of the Audrey Skirball-Kenis Chair in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and chief of the division, $1 million will be earmarked for Keck activities related to international service and teaching.

Numerous USC faculty currently work in conjunction with Operation Smile, a nonprofit organization that surgically corrects facial deformities in children abroad and provides educational opportunities for medical professionals to attain self sufficiency in their own countries.

Sherman, a longtime Lyon family friend and physician, and founder of the Southern California Chapter of Operation Smile, said that the gift acknowledges the cooperation between the university and the volunteer group in delivering vital services and education to the international community.

Operation Smile has performed more than 50,000 reconstructive surgeries on children since its founding 20 years ago, in dozens of countries including India, China, Brazil, Panama, Colombia, Morocco and Kenya.

"We’re overjoyed with the gift. General Lyon has been a constant supporter of USC and Operation Smile, whose work he has helped underwrite in the past," Sherman said.

"This gift recognizes that USC plays an important role in elevating the effectiveness of the organization through a strategic university partnership."

Sherman explained the remaining $1 million of the gift would be used next year to aid in the recruitment of an NIH-funded basic scientist to lead the efforts in wound-healing research.

William Lyon is chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer of the Newport Beach-based real estate development group, the William Lyon Companies. He is also a life trustee of USC.

A Los Angeles native and USC graduate, Lyon served as a pilot in the Pacific, European, and Middle East theaters in WWII. During the Korean War he flew 75 combat missions and after rising through the ranks was promoted to Major General in 1974. In 1975 he was appointed by the Chief of Staff of the US Air Force as Chief of the Air Force Reserve in Washington, D.C.

Four years later, General Lyon retired from the Air Force with more than 35 years of service. During his career he received 17 awards and decorations including the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal of two oak-leaf clusters and the Presidential Unit Citation.

General Lyon and his family have been involved in numerous charitable organizations.

He has served as chair of the Boy Scouts of America, Orange County; chair of Orangewood, a home for dependent children; and chair of the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

Also caught up in the web was John Rees, editor of the Western Goals Foundation and a longtime associate of Jerry Ducote through their common bosses and similar methods of accumulating data. Both acted as agents provocateurs.
"An agent provocateur is a police agent who is introduced into any political organization with instructions to foment discontent . . . or to take a case in order to give his employers the right to act against the organization in question," according to Victor Kaledin, a colonel in the Imperial Russian Military Intelligence.
Ducote was employed in such activities by Ronald Reagan's backers and by the John Birch Society. Rees worked with the Birch Society and virtually every other right-wing group, feeding them information they could use to harass and embarrass those who opposed their point of view.

Last January in Los Angeles the American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit on behalf of 131 law-abiding groups and individuals who were illegally spied upon. Among the defendants in this case are 54 police officers who are members of the LAPD's Public Disorder Intelligence Division.
The law firm representing these defendants – its highly sensitive files were being funneled to Representative Larry McDonald's Western Goals Foundation – is Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher. Curiously enough, Attorney General William French Smith was a partner in that firm. And none other than President Ronald Reagan is a client of Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher for all personal matters.
In any event, time was running out on Larry McDonald's many years of stealing, bugging and compiling. He was about to be subpoenaed by a Los Angeles County grand jury. His testimony, particularly the portions telling of how his Long Beach computer was being fed with illegal police intelligence files, could embarrass and even damage a great number of powerful people

In 1973 Ducote embarked on a scheme of fraud and deceit in order to obtain money. He used the name of a prominent grower in the Salinas Valley area to obtain loans from private parties. fn. 3 The grower complained to the district attorney, but refused to provide details to the authorities, and the case against Ducote was dropped. Defendant's name was never mentioned in connection with this investigation.

About this time, Ducote, using an alias, contacted the attorney for the United Farm Workers, and offered to sell him the documents stolen from that organization for $25,000. The attorney notified the F.B.I., and advised the agent assigned to the case that at a meeting with Ducote, he was told Ducote had committed 16 political burglaries and had taken documents from the victims. The agent contacted the Santa Clara District Attorney's office, which informed him that Ducote's file contained no information later than October 1969. The agent forwarded all the information in his possession to the United States Department of Justice, and was subsequently notified that there were no federal civil rights [22 Cal.3d 499] violations involved in Ducote's activities; the agent was directed to contact local authorities concerning the burglaries.

The trial court found that Santa Clara officials had no knowledge of the report of the burglaries until 1976, although there is some conflict in the evidence on that issue. In April 1974, one Jerry Boyes contacted the Santa Clara District Attorney's office and showed an investigator two newspaper articles discussing political burglaries. Boyes stated that Ducote and others were involved in the burglaries, and that he had been present when Ducote displayed the documents taken from the break-ins mentioned in the articles. Defendant's name was not mentioned. The investigator who spoke with Boyes believed he was not a credible witness and did not pursue the information provided. The trial court found that the failure of the county to investigate further was justified.

Boyes also contacted other government agencies, including the intelligence branch of the California Department of Justice, at which he spoke with agent Walter Kubas about Ducote's involvement in political burglaries. Kubas contacted Ducote on February 14, 1975, and Ducote confessed to the burglaries and told of defendant's involvement. He turned over several boxes of documents stolen in the break-ins, and Kubas gave them to the legal staff. But it was not until October 1975 that the legal staff referred the matter to the investigative branch of the department to conduct an investigation for the purpose of prosecution.

On November 4, 1975, an agent of the department contacted Santa Clara County officials about the burglaries. After a preliminary hearing regarding Ducote's involvement in the crimes, investigators from the county and the department flew to Idaho, where they met with defendant on January 4, 1976. On February 2, 1976, defendant came to San Jose from Idaho and was arrested by Santa Clara authorities that day.

Defendant admits that he unlawfully entered the premises described in the information, but claims that he did not intend to permanently deprive the burglary victims of their papers. He claims that Ducote had advised him that the stolen documents were for the use of intelligence agencies, and that he assumed they would be copied and returned to their owners.

I haven't found an article better describing the scandal? that Reagan had at the time. Although I have heard it mentioned in a number of places. The point I am working towards is that through the Bohemian Grove, Alfred Bloomingdale and his own staff, there was something else motivating some of these people. BDSM, real estate, drugs, covert operatives, this isn't the first time someone suspected them of something.

Then they had the gay flap in the administration. Story was leaked that certain members of the staff were gay and this was going on, that was going on. I was in Europe and I saw in the Herald Tribune, a little bitty squib and I thought, oh my God, they’ve got to be friends of mine. When I get home, the first call I get, You’ve got to come up here and straighten this out.

They had named names and they knew everything by that point. They didn’t know everything because I got trapped in a couple of things. I tried to talk to certain people. I finally got something going, but that’s the kind of issue where everyone runs for cover. [Laughter] That’s a terrible issue. Today it wouldn’t be a flap. Then it was like the Walter Jenkins thing. It was a big problem, a gay guy working in the Governor’s office.

For the record, I think its interesting that there's potentially some ties he had with his (ONS) victims and that could of course, ultimately lead to new suspects, but kinda feels like "6 degrees of Kevin Bacon" to me.

Thank you for this question. What I am trying to say is this. The crimes that are gathered together as earon's seem to defy any logic that I can see. So there has to be something else going on. The idea that Sandia has offered about framing other people for the crimes seems to me to be very descriptive of the crimes. So I have tried to consider what people would have access to the info about these other people and still be in a place to commit these crimes. The people I thought of were LE snitches, probation officers, state and federal LE, and people involved with them. To have enough info about possible framing victims in such a wide area and including across state lines would mean a federal entity, so I have been leaning towards FBI. I think in a way the people that were being framed could tell us more then the people that were victimized. It would be good to see a list of the possible framing victims and what connections they had.

At the same time I have been researching the Lyman Smith murder and his involvement with William Morgan Hetrick. That involvement seems to be one where the people involved were very important people. I followed Hetrick and his involvements with other strange deaths and business associates and ended up with the Reagan Kitchen Cabinet and the Bohemian Grove. Hetrick worked for Bloomingdale. His fatherinlaw was Arthur Jones. He worked for Fletcher Jones. He was considered an aviation genius and I wonder if that knowledge including destroying planes as well. He also had a hanger in the Mojavi near Edwards AFB. At this hanger he had a state of the art milling machine. he had a history of hiring ex servicemen who had been kicked out the military for drugs but were known for their abilities none the less. He had CIA and FBI connections and was known as a drug smuggler. He was convicted for it. He was also being investigated by the FBI and somehow was able to not get caught. My theory is that Lyman Smith became a problem for him somehow. Either the FBi was going to have Lyman give evidence about Hetricks activities or Lyman wanted more of the profits. Hetrick had some very powerful connections in Bloomingdale, Mermelstein, and others and I have thought that if Hetrick needed to have some one murdered he could find someone. I haven't found the prime mover in my opinion, but I don't think it is a coincidence that Reagan's cabinet was so heavily involved in real estate and that the attacks occurred in the places they did. Imo, it seems Reagan's cabinet had started carving up California as soon as Reagan became Governor. I hoped that the inclusion of the articles that I have placed show the connections that these politicians, business men, military men, and FBI men could make while being there. One article clearly states that the Republican party already had a team available for covert activity. I believe that is undeniable in the sense that Nixon used something similar at Watergate.

The timeline that I am suggesting is this. Ear attacks, Ons attacks, involvement in the Delorean sting. I theorize that someone associated with the ear got caught up in that trial and either laid low afterwards, moved away and committed crimes somewhere else or served some small prison time. That could explain the time between crimes.

There are some other things that I have researched that I haven't posted yet. They are a result of my belief that the Hollister and Storke location is correct. I know that many have disagreed with me. I believe who ever drew the map was not nearly as talented as many believe and that there wasn't a consistent scale applied to the drawing. The three things that are important, imo, is the location near the freeway, the topography that would allow for a lake to be built, and the similarity of the commercial buildings. I believe it was originally meant to be an upper class or elite development. I went back and researched the site and one thing that interests me is the fact that if the map had been drawn in the 60's like I believe, there wasn't a freeway offramp there. In fact, from what I have seen, Storke road didn't even extend north to the freeway yet. Not until 68 did I find a map with the proposed route written on it. I started reasearching the people involved with the properties there and found some other things that are interesting.

I am interested in the idea that the reference to Jesse James and Son of Sam was an allusion to the terms that the CIA or the FBI would use when talking about an operation and its "author". I wonder if there were any operations or operatives that used those names. I also wonder if there were any groups in the Bohemian Grove that had camp names similar to those.

Additionally I am very interested in Ducote, James Hoffman, and others of that ilk. It might just be that Hetrick was providing transportation for these men.

I have more thoughts about these ideas and welcome any criticisms or help. I am of the thinking that if people don't have a strong disagreement with what I have posted so far that I will continue to add more of this type of material on this thread.missing persons

I am sorry but the death of Margaret and the disappearance of Mary seem very odd. They worked at the same school and shopped at the same store their last day.

Mary Rico, missing april 2, 1992

Rico was reported missing on April 20. A neighbor went to the police said he saw her standing in the background of a television newscast ten days after she was last seen. The newscast was about groups protesting an execution, and Rico was politically active and championed liberal causes. Authorities closed the case after the neighbor came forward with the sighting of Rico on television, but more than a month later the missing persons file was reopened because Rico's family still hadn't heard from her. The television sighting was later discounted.

When her son came down from northern California to check Rico's home, he found the rear patio's glass door broken and a small amount of blood smeared on Rico's bed. He had CIA and FBI connections and was known as a drug smuggler. He was convicted for it. He was also being investigated by the FBI and somehow was able to not get caught. My theory is that Lyman Smith became a problem for him somehow. Either the FBi was going to have Lyman give evidence about Hetricks activities or Lyman wanted more of the profits. Hetrick had some very powerful connections in Bloomingdale, Mermelstein, and others and I have thought that if Hetrick needed to have some one murdered he could find someone. I'm behind you (and Sandia) on the framing theory. I haven't thought about it too deeply, but I can see it.

The possible connection with Hetrick and the Lyman murders are interesting. I will read more of what you've provided in those cases.

I haven't found anything which connects them. My suspicion is that the Hetrick boys were the ones with these connections, not Morgan Hetrick. If they were the ones supplying the drugs then they would be looking for dealers. I believe one of the Hetrick boys served time for murder. Could Glasby have been one of the dealers? One of the articles above says that Bloomingdales son was living on a ranch in Santa Barbara during that time. I wonder what the connection was between the children of all these powerful men?

Would Lyman Smith or Marvin Lewis have a connection to Glasby through the court system? Or maybe Glasby's father or family?

I really found the article on Ducote interesting in that he was a sheriff and as a defense said he thought he was working for the FBI. The reference to the UFW seems interesting in that the FBI was also interested in Coors at that time too. Re: Material, articles, websites of interest

I am including this for a couple of reasons. G Gordon Liddy was connected to Arthur Jones, Hetricks father in law. He also contacted Delorean after his trial. Hetrick and Jones were heavily connected with the FBI, CIA, smuggling whether it was drugs or animals, and had a history of flying these people around. Jones had connections to the Los Angeles LE and hired some officers in his business. IMO, Watergate was important in the respect that Nixon and Reagan both came from CA and had the some of the same people supporting their career. So if Liddy and Hunt were available to Nixon then I would guess that someone similar was available to Bloomingdale and Reagan. Liddy was also connected in Timothy Leary. See next post.

Hunt on the outside trying to get them out on bail.

file on G. Gordon Liddy. I looked at his picture. I said, “You know this is the guy that
sat next to me.”

Then I got a file presented to me on Hunt. It was a closed applicant file indicating that he
was employed by the CIA. I thought this is unusual.

I said, “Well, I don’t want these guys released from jail today. They can just sit in jail
until Monday.” So then I called SAC Washington Field, Bob Kunkel, and after that I
called Mark Felt and gave him a summary of all of this. I thought it was unusual that
these people would be in the Democratic Party space and have all of this monitoring
equipment. He couldn’t understand that either.
Up until I heard about Liddy and Hunt being involved, I thought this might be a Cuban
intelligence operation directed by the KGB in Cuba. But once these two people, Hunt
and Liddy, surfaced in the investigation, I honestly didn’t know what to think. I still
wanted to know why they were in there with all of this electronic equipment

Unless you take everybody with you. It is kind of interesting the connections that the
Bureau had. The tremendous connections, of course, with the Marine Corps, the Bureau
is full of marines and for whatever reason big connections with the airline industry. I
remember down in Miami you could go over to American, I think it was American, they
had a training center there. The guys would go over for lunch and the beginning
stewardesses were learning how to give cabin service. They would go over and sit in a
fake airplane and have lunch.

A statement Thursday from the office of former President Reagan and his wife, Nancy, recalled Jorgensen fondly.

"Earle Jorgensen was one of our oldest and dearest friends, and we will miss him terribly. He had a deep love for his country and supported numerous worthwhile causes," the statement said.

"We will always cherish the kindness he showed us over the years. . . . Our sympathy goes out to his wife . . . Marion, and their whole family."

Southern California was at the start of an oil boom touched off by a big discovery in Signal Hill when Jorgensen arrived in Los Angeles in 1921. He immediately saw the market for sales of steel and aluminum to help fuel the boom. After borrowing $20,000, he began selling shipyard surplus and scrap to oil drillers in quantities, and at prices that the area's two steel mills in town could not match. By 1923, he had created in essence a supermarket for steel and aluminum. The plain-spoken salesman later supplied metals to an emerging aircraft industry, selling to the likes of Howard Hughes and Boeing.

At its peak in 1979, Jorgensen's company had 19 national service centers, two forge divisions, two sheet and strip plants and one facility where blades for earth-moving equipment were manufactured. The firm had close to $400 million in sales that year.

"Every order was filled, no matter how modest. Earle would see that it was cut to order and delivered in a bright, shiny truck," Bren once recalled.

Tireless Volunteer, Reagan Supporter

Memories of Jorgensen as a tireless community volunteer and philanthropist mix with recollections of his early, steadfast faith in Ronald Reagan.

In 1966, when Reagan was running for California governor, the Jorgensens hosted the Reagans, Alfred and Betsy Bloomingdale and other conservative millionaires at their Bel-Air home for an election night party to await the results. The menu--Reagan's favorite veal stew and coconut cake--remained the fare when the same crowd gathered at the Jorgensens for election-night festivities for the rest of Reagan's career.

At such gatherings, Jorgensen loved to pull antics. "He'd stand on his head, just for fun, just to show us that he could," Nancy Reagan recalled in an interview some years ago. The late Holmes Tuttle, the California auto dealer and top Reagan fund-raiser, once described Jorgensen as "loyal right down to the core for President Reagan. When Ron was running for president, he became active. . . . He worked hard in the steel industry getting people to support Gov. Reagan for president."

But I told him I was not interested and refused to meet with him later. A few years later I read in a newspaper that he was shot in the head while landing a small airplane near San Diego; apparently somebody on the ground fired at his plane for no reason apart from an attempt to amuse themselves. But he survived that; and the next thing I heard about him was when he was arrested by the FBI in connection with the dope case that sent him to prison.

Years later, Bill supplied the cocaine to DeLorean, was filmed by the FBI handing over a large packet of dope.
DeLorean was tried but was acquitted, even though he was obviously guilty as Hell; was acquitted only because the
jury liked him better than they liked the prosecutor. But Bill copped a plea, pled guilty in return for a reduced prison
term; then spent several years in a Federal prison, and finally got out on parole.
Then, out of the blue, he called me on the phone about two years ago; and told me, among other things, that he
was married to my daughter Joyce, and was living with her in Arkansas. And my son Edgar called her and confirmed
that she was married to Bill. What a pair.
So I then called a friend of mine who is an FBI agent, and he provided me with the name of Bill’s parole officer,
and then I called him; told him everything I ever knew about both Bill and Joyce, which was a lot, and told him to
instruct Bill and Joyce to never attempt to contact me or any member of my family again. That if they tried any such
later contact I would try to get Bill’s parole revoked and send him back to prison; at a minimum, I would get a
restraining order from a Federal judge.
So the parole officer passed that message on to both Bill and Joyce, and later told me on the phone that Bill and
Joyce promised him that no additional contact would be attempted. And, so far, I have never heard from either of them
again. Might kill both of them if I did, and if I had no other way of keeping them away. Both of them certainly need
killing. But if I had killed everybody that needed killing that I have met I would have been so busy that I would have
had very little time for anything else. Nature continuously weeds out the weaker members of any race of animals, and
we should follow the same rule with people; instead, are doing everything possible to assure that utterly worthless
people continue to survive and breed; the result being survival of the least fit, or negative evolution, a change in the

After pulling out of South Vietnam in 1975, there was an attempt to keep a company presence in Thailand; after this fell through, Air America officially disbanded on June 30, 1976, and was later purchased by Evergreen International Airlines, which continues to provide support for U.S. covert operations.[1]

From 1962 to 1975, Air America inserted and extracted U.S. personnel, provided logistical support to the Royal Lao Army, Hmong army under command of Royal Lao Army Major General Vang Pao, and combatant Thai volunteer forces, transported refugees, and flew photo reconnaissance missions that provided valuable intelligence on NLF activities. Its civilian-marked craft were frequently used, under the control of the Seventh/Thirteenth Air Force to launch search and rescue missions for U.S. pilots downed throughout Southeast Asia. Air America pilots were the only known private U.S. corporate employees to operate non-Federal Aviation Administration-certified military aircraft in a combat role, although many of them were actually military personnel who had been transferred to the airline.

By the summer of 1970, the airline had some two dozen twin-engine transport aircraft, another two dozen short-take off-and-landing aircraft, and 30 helicopters dedicated to operations in Burma, Cambodia, Thailand, and Laos. There were more than 300 pilots, copilots, flight mechanics, and airfreight specialists based in Laos and Thailand. During 1970, Air America delivered 46 million pounds (21,000 metric tons) of food in Laos. Helicopter flight time reached more than 4,000 hours a month in the same year.

Air America flew civilians, diplomats, spies, refugees, commandos, sabotage teams, doctors, war casualties, drug enforcement officers, drugs, and even visiting VIPs like Richard Nixon all over Southeast Asia. Its non-human passengers were even more bizarre on occasion; part of the CIA's support operations in Laos, for instance, involved logistical support for local tribes fighting the North Vietnamese forces and the Pathet Lao, their local opponents. Forced draft urbanization policies, such as the widespread application of Agent Orange to Vietnamese farmland created a disruption in local food production, so thousands of tons of food had to be flown in, including live chickens, pigs, water buffalo and cattle. On top of the food drops (known as 'rice drops') came the logistical demands for the war itself, and Air America pilots flew thousands of flights transporting and air-dropping ammunition and weapons (referred to as "hard rice") to friendly forces.

OK, so it is a fact Hetrick is working for Maverick and that he was working with Mermelstein. He also retires to Arkansas and is the son-in-law of Arthur Jones. Jones said he was smuggling drugs. Barry Seal is doing the exact same thing.

Released on April 13, 1989, the Kerry Committee report concluded that members of the U.S. State Department "who provided support for the Contras were involved in drug trafficking... and elements of the Contras themselves knowingly received financial and material assistance from drug traffickers."

In 1996 Gary Webb wrote a series of articles published in the San Jose Mercury News, which investigated Nicaraguans linked to the CIA-backed Contras who had smuggled cocaine into the U.S. which was then distributed as crack cocaine into Los Angeles and funneled profits to the Contras. The CIA was aware of the cocaine transactions and the large shipments of drugs into the U.S. by the Contra personnel and directly aided drug dealers to raise money for the Contras.[citation needed] Although he heavily implied CIA involvement, Webb never claimed to have made a direct link between the CIA and the Contras.[citation needed] Moreover, Webb's articles were heavily attacked by many media outlets who questions the validity of his claims, although the unusual response led some to question if the CIA was involved.[citation needed] Webb turned the articles into a book called, Dark Alliance: The CIA, the Contras, and the Crack Cocaine Explosion." On December 10, 2004, Webb reportedly committed suicide.[7]

In 1996, CIA Director John M. Deutch went to Los Angeles to attempt to refute the allegations raised by the Webb articles, and was famously confronted by former Los Angeles Police Department officer Michael Ruppert, who testified that he had witnessed it occurring.[8]

The CIA has been accused of moneylaundering the iran-contra drug funds via the BCCI, the former U.S. Commissioner of Customs William von Raab said that when customs agents raided the bank in 1988, they found numerous CIA accounts.[9][10] The CIA also worked with BCCI in arming and financing the Afghan mujahideen during the Afghan War against the Soviet Union, using BCCI to launder proceeds from trafficking heroin grown in the Pakistan-Afghanistan borderlands, boosting the flow of narcotics to European and U.S. markets.[

Mena, Arkansas[edit]

A number of allegations have been written about and several local, state, and federal investigations have taken place related to the notion of the Mena Intermountain Municipal Airport as a CIA drop point in large scale cocaine trafficking beginning in the latter part of the 1980s. The topic has received some press coverage that has included allegations of awareness, participation and/or coverup involvement of figures such as future presidents Bill Clinton,[11][12][13][14] George H. W. Bush, and George W. Bush, as well future Florida Governor Jeb Bush and Saline County prosecutor Dan Harmon (who was convicted of numerous felonies including drug and racketeering charges in 1997[15]). The Mena airport was also associated with Adler Berriman (Barry) Seal, an American drug smuggler and aircraft pilot who flew covert flights for the CIA and the Medellín Cartel.[16]

I just wanted to include this, nothing to do with the case, but after reading the story I think the man earned much more recognition then he has gotten.

He gave us individually-typed letters to each of his children and my mom,” said Eric Webb. “People say, ‘It was typed. It could have been anyone.’ But he was an author. You can tell his voice. The notes mentioned specific events that no one would have really known. I felt like he was speaking to me personally.” In the letter Gary Webb wrote to his ex-wife, Susan Stokes, as reported in the American Journalism Review, he wrote, “All I want to do is write, and if I can’t do what I love, then what’s the sense of going on? Tell them I never regretted anything I wrote.” The story that Gary Webb reported in “Dark Alliance” is one of many investigative pieces that he wrote. His work and courage will be remembered by many people. From the outset of his career, Webb distinguished himself by uncovering official malfeasance, winning national recognition for exposing organized crime in Kentucky coal mines in the late '70s, moving to the Plain Dealer in the '80s, where he earned the sobriquet "The Carpenter" for nailing down facts. While Webb diligently and methodically uncovered local government misdeeds in Cleveland, he closely followed President Reagan's diligent and methodical attempts to overthrow Nicaragua's socialist government.

Throughout the decade, the Reagan administration had tolerated drug smugglers who were helping the contras, a Senate subcommittee reported in 1988. But few in the media took the findings seriously, says Jack Blum, then special counsel for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which was chaired by Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.). Unknown to Congress or the committee, the CIA had a secret agreement with then-Attorney General William French Smith that absolved the agency of its legal requirement to report crimes committed by people acting on its behalf. The deal gave the CIA plausible deniability and allowed the administration to launch "a huge campaign to cover up what they were doing, running a war that was off the books," recalls Blum, now a Washington attorney. "The appalling tragedy," he adds, is that "while all this was being investigated, the press was being spun and told all this garbage by the administration."

At a friend's party, he logged onto the paper's Web site, saw the image of a crack smoker superimposed on the CIA seal, and began reading what he'd written: A San Francisco drug ring sold tons of cocaine to Los Angeles street gangs, funneling millions in profits to CIA-run guerrilla armies in Latin America. Before the "CIA's army" started bringing cocaine into South Central, Webb asserted, it was "virtually unobtainable in black neighborhoods" but quickly spread nationwide.

After that, the story gets complicated and hard to follow; it features a cast of characters large enough for a Russian novel, with events spanning a decade in a chronology so confusing it demands rereading, rereading and rereading again. At every turn, Webb had stubbornly refused to back down. And that was, perhaps, his fatal flaw, suggests former Mercury News editor Jonathan Krim. "A lot of the story was accurate and important. There was a drug operation. No question it had links to people in intelligence services. It was dirty as hell," Krim says. But Webb made "an anthropological leap," when he called the drug operation "the genesis of the crack epidemic in America. That assertion.. didn't hold up under further scrutiny. The tragedy of Gary was that when presented with that information, he simply couldn't accept it and let go of his work. The CIA had one overriding priority: to oust the Sandinista government, the agency's inspector general reported. It was, she said, ''the only (case) that I ever worked, in all the time I worked there, that I thought was really big...In this business, if you have people coming in from Nicaragua bringing in cocaine -- and the rumor was they were taking guns back ... I thought there was something really big there.''

By then, court records show, federal law enforcement agents had already amassed a thick intelligence file on Meneses. Agents had run across his cocaine ring in New Orleans, San Francisco and Los Angeles, a 1981 DEA affidavit said. As far back as 1978, it said, federal agents knew Meneses was bringing multi-kilo quantities of cocaine into the United States -- huge amounts by the standards of the day.

As part of her investigation, Smith staked out the San Francisco International Airport and tailed two of Meneses' Southern California drug dealers to a house at 8 Bellevue Street in Daly City. After a while, one of the dealers emerged, drove to another house in Daly City belonging to a nephew of Meneses and then returned to the Bellevue Street address.

Smith's investigation was terminated shortly after that, so she never learned who lived in the house on Bellevue Street. But two years later, its owner would become involved in one of the most curious incidents in the annals of the War on Drugs.


Pereira, a business associate of Norwin Meneses, was later convicted of drug charges in Costa Rica. Secret telephone taps made during that investigation revealed he was in frequent contact with contra commanders. In addition, a 1982 FBI report -- which wasn't made public until 1988 -- identified him and two other contra leaders as the cocaine suppliers for the Frogman ring.

Why DEA agent Smith's investigation of Meneses -- which predated the Frogman bust by two years -- was halted is not clear. Smith said her superiors didn't share her enthusiasm for the case and she was sent off to investigate motorcycle gangs.

''I'm not so sure the DEA management took (my investigation) seriously enough to allow me the time and the assistance I would have needed,'' she said.

Smith, now an investigator for the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington State, believes part of the problem was that ''being a female, my credibility was somewhat in question.''

But that hardly explains the San Francisco DEA's overall lack of interest in an international cocaine-and-arms ring operating in its backyard.

When she quit the DEA in 1984, Smith asked if any of her fellow agents wanted the intelligence files she'd collected on Meneses to see ''if anyone might be interested in picking up where I left off,'' she recalled.

''No one was. So I had a lot of notes that I had made that, just for lack of doing anything else (with them), I just shredded. No one was interested.''

Oscar Danilo Blandón Reyes (born 1952) headed Nicaragua's agricultural imports under Anastasio Somoza. He has a master's degree in marketing. When the Somoza government was overthrown in 1979, Blandón fled to the United States, and then raised money for the Nicaraguan Democratic Force (FDN), a Contra group. According to many sources, including reporter Gary Webb, Blandón sold drugs and weapons (via Ronald Lister) to the Crips in Los Angeles. Blandón claimed that the Central Intelligence Agency protected him, allowing him to operate without fear of reprisal.

Blandón was arrested on drug charges in 1986 by the FBI. In May 1992, Blandón was convicted in US District Court (San Diego) on the federal charge of "conspiracy to possess cocaine with intent to distribute." He was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison, but was released due to time served. Blandón was a major drug trafficker, infamously supplying Ricky Ross with millions of dollars worth of cocaine on a daily basis.

Following his imprisonment, Blandón was hired by the Drug Enforcement Administration and salaried at $42,000. Blandon was not a US Citizen/National, and is the only known foreigner to not be deported following conviction on drug trafficking charges in US History. The INS granted Blandón a green card, despite the criminal convictions, to allow him to work for the DEA. The DEA claims that Blandón is no longer on their payroll, and his whereabouts are unknown.

If Hetrick was as big a trafficker as has been said then I believe it would be probable that he had a connection like the one below. We know he already had a connection to Bloomingdale and to Maverick. French Smith was limiting the legal culpability. So how did these traffickers launder the money? The FBI and DEA hadn't been able to catch him trafficking the drugs but they had got him laundering the money. One avenue was by forcing his way into a legitimate business. Another way was Real Estate. Florida traffickers had been doing this same thing.

The Subcommittee found that the links that were forged between the Contras and the drug traffickers were primarily pragmatic, rather than ideological. The drug traffickers, who had significant financial and material resources, needed the cover of legitimate activity for their criminal enterprises. A trafficker like George Morales hoped to have his drug indictment dropped in return for his financial and material support of the Contras. Others, in the words of Marcos Aguado, Eden Pastora's air force chief:

.. took advantage of the anti-communist sentiment which existed in Central America ... and they undoubtedly used it for drug trafficking.[1]

While for some Contras, it was a matter of survival, for the traffickers it was just another business deal to promote and protect their own operations

On May 6, 1986, a bipartisan group of Committee staff met with representatives of the Justice Department, FBI, DEA, CIA and State Department to discuss the allegations that Senator Kerry had received information of Neutrality Act violations, gun running and drug trafficking in association with Contra organizations based on the Southern Front in Costa Rica.

In the days leading up to the meeting, Justice Department spokesmen were stating publicly that "the FBI had conducted an inquiry into all of these charges and none of them have any substance."[8] At that meeting, Justice Department officials privately contradicted the numerous public statements from the Department that these allegations had been investigated thoroughly and were determined to be without foundation. The Justice Department officials at the meeting said the public statements by Justice were "inaccurate."[9] The Justice officials confirmed there were ongoing Neutrality Act investigations in connection with the allegations raised by Senator Kerry.

At the same meeting, representatives of the CIA categorically denied that the Neutrality Act violations raised by the Committee staff had in fact taken place, citing classified documents which the CIA did not make available to the Committee. In fact, at the time, the FBI had already assembled substantial information confirming the Neutrality Act violations, including admissions by some of the persons involved indicating that crimes had taken place. Covert war, insurgency and drug trafficking frequently go hand-in-hand without regard to ideology or sponsorship. General Paul Gorman, testified that the use of narcotics profits by armed resistance groups was commonplace. Gorman stated further that: "If you want to move arms or munitions in Latin America, the established networks are owned by the cartels. A number of Costa Ricans became suppliers for the Sandinistas. These included Jaime "Pillique" Guerra, who owned a crop dusting service and a related aircraft support business in northern Costa Rica. Guerra refueled and repaired the planes which came from Panama loaded with Cuban weapons for the Sandinistas.[18] Guerra's crop dusting business was excellent cover for the movement of aviation fuel to the dozens of remote airstrips they used without arousing the suspicions of Costa Rican authorities.

When the Sandinista insurgency succeeded in 1979, smuggling activity in northern Costa Rica did not stop. A shadowy figure from the 1980s heyday of Lt. Col. Oliver North and the Nicaraguan Contras is suing the FBI and the CIA in Fort Lauderdale federal court.

Walter Lee ``Wally'' Grasheim, 58, is described by his attorney Joel Hirschhorn as ``a man of mystery'' who sold night-vision equipment to the military in El Salvador and was wrongly accused of running drugs as part of the Contra guns-for-drugs scandal.
``This guy is just not into drugs,'' Hirschhorn said.

Grasheim, who lives part-time in Broward County, sued because he wants to know exactly what the FBI and the CIA said about him in reports in the mid-1980s.

He plans to use that information to sue the agencies for a 1986 raid on his home in El Salvador, Hirschhorn said.

The lawsuits filed last week seek reports the FBI and CIA ``wantonly and arbitrarily'' withheld under the Freedom of Information Act.

Neither agency has been served yet and cannot comment, representatives said on Monday.

The CIA suit hints at intrigue when it alludes to a belief based on ``the sworn statement of a former Federal Agent'' that the agency won't release the reports because they show it conspired to violate Grasheim's civil rights.

The former agent is Celerino Castillo III, who left the Drug Enforcement Administration in 1992 after blowing the whistle on the Contra guns-for-drugs connection.

He tied Grasheim to North, who ran the operation in which narcotics traffickers funded a CIA-sponsored war waged by anti-communists against the Sandinista government.

In published reports Castillo, the DEA's chief agent in El Salvador at the time, says he ran the September 1986 raid on Grasheim's home, which turned up marijuana and a cache of weapons and explosives.

Castillo said his boss ordered him to end his investigation into drug smuggling after the raid.

A month later, on Oct. 5, 1986, Sandinistas captured U.S. operative Eugene Hasenfus and the Iran-Contra affair began to unravel.

Castillo's detailed reports on the cocaine laden planes went unheeded by DEA officials in Washington. Castillo was warned by his boss, Bob Stia and the U.S. Ambassador to El Salvador, not to interfere with the covert operation because it was protected by the White House.

On September 01, 1986, Castillo's Salvadoran anti-drug unit raided a house in San Salvador and found a huge shipment of US-issued munitions and weapons. Records and equipment belonging to the US embassy were found at the residence. The residence belonged to a US Contra pilot by the name of Wally Grasheim. He was mentioned in DEA, FBI, and US Customs files. The raid was executed after every department in the US Embassy denied that Mr. Grashiem was in no way shape or form associated with them.

In April, 1987, one month before the Iran-Contra hearings, DEA Latin American foreign office chief, John Martch, traveled to Guatemala to investigate Castillo and warned him not to reveal his information about the Contra drug operations. At one point, the DEA ordered Castillo not to close some of the Contra files so that the records would not be unavailable to Senator John Kerry's committee under the Freedom of Information Act. In 1988, Senator John Kerry's Subcommittee on Terrorism, Narcotics and International Operations finished its investigations, having never called Castillo to testify.

In September, 1987, Castillo, along with CIA agent, Randy Capister, and 100 elements from the Guatemala Military G-2, conducted a drug raid in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala. In one of the largest drug busts ever, more than 2 1/2 tons of cocaine were seized. Just after the bust, the G-2 agents raped and murdered the two daughters of a Mexican trafficker and killed their father and others they apprehended in the raid. Their bodies were dismembered, stuffed into 55 gallon drums and disposed of by being dropped into the ocean. It was during this period that several key Agency players in the weapons supply network to the Nicaraguan Contras in the 1980s developed their skills in drug running and secret war management. CIA chief of station Ted Shackley exercised overall command over the Agency's covert operations in Laos. (He later managed Operation Phoenix, the CIA's mass murder "pacification" programme in Vietnam). Shackley's CIA deputy in Laos, Tom Clines, managed ground support activities for the war, and U.S. Air Force liaison Richard Secord, then a lieutenant colonel, supplied most of the aircraft for Air America and other CIA proprietary airlines.

Shackley, Clines and Secord, together with Robert Jantzen, the CIA's station chief in Thailand and CIA officer Edwin Wilson, were cited in the late 1970s in the Nugan Hand Bank scandal in Australia, which was found to be heavily involved in drug trafficking between Thailand and Australia, as well as money laundering and illegal weapons deals.

A similar government-orchestrated outrage-incident was the Octopus' 1985 plot to bomb the American embassy and presidential offices in Costa Rica as a pretext for a full-scale U.S. invasion of Nicaragua. The plan was an offshoot of Operation Pegasus, the CIA's program of political assassinations, similar to the Phoenix Program.

The conspiracy was akin to the many American-engineered provocations of the past. The U.S. — through the skullduggery of the CIA — would bomb their own embassy, cleverly blaming it on the Sandinistas.

Civilian Military Assistance (CMA) leader Tom Posey and his band of mercenaries — Steven Carr, Robert Thompson, Rene Corvo, and Costa Rican-American land-owners John Hull and Bruce Jones — arranged for a patriotic Cuban-American, Jesus Garcia, to take part in the plot. According to Leslie Cockburn (Out of Control) Posey showed Garcia the blueprints of the embassy. "They came to me with a plan to hit the American embassy in Costa Rica," recalls Garcia. "They had an idea this would start a war between Nicaragua and the United States."

In addition to bombing the embassy, they were to "take out" the American ambassador, Lewis Tambs, a vocal opponent of the Colombian/Contra cocaine trade, and collect the $1 million reward that the Ochoa clan had placed on his head. The CIA-led group, which had been funding their covert operations through arms and drug trafficking, would solve the problem of an American official who had dared interfere with their profitable business, while at the same time, serving the lofty goals of U.S. foreign policy.<2>

According to CMA mercenary Jack Terrell, the plan was to place C-4 in a light-box outside the embassy and detonate it. When Tambs ran outside, he would be shot. A Nicaraguan would then be killed and fake documents placed on his person to incriminate the Sandinistas.<3>

While Garcia refused to participate in the plot, he recalled, "The embassy plan was blessed from the White House. There were too many big people involved in this. In order to hit a U.S. embassy even us Cubans who are here in Miami would normally out of courtesy notify the CIA."

Considering the players involved, it appeared that the CIA knew fully well of the plot, as it drew members from Brigade 2506, Ted Shackley's old JM/WAVE anti-Castro Cuban mercenary group.<4> Re: Material, articles, websites of interest

Frednedna found an article on this also. I think it sheds some iight on the skillset the ear had. Note that there is the mention of a karate chop to the neck which implies to me that he was killed before he left the plane. I don't know if that is right. There was another "company" on the westcoast. The interesting thing to me is that it may have been run by an attorney. The Reagans and their cabinet had law firm that represented them. Did the ear work for the law firm as well?

On 5th October, 1986, a Sandinista patrol in Nicaragua shot down a C-123K cargo plane that was supplying the Contras. That night Felix Rodriguez made a telephone call to the office of George H. W. Bush. He told Bush aide, Samuel Watson, that the C-123k aircraft had gone missing.

Eugene Hasenfus, an Air America veteran, survived the crash and told his captors that he thought the CIA was behind the operation. He also provided information that several Cuban-Americans running the operation in El Salvador. This resulted in journalists being able to identify Rafael Quintero, Luis Posada and Felix Rodriguez as the Cuban-Americans mentioned by Hasenfus.

In an article in the Washington Post (11th October, 1986), the newspaper reported that George Bush and Donald P. Gregg were linked to Felix Rodriguez. It gradually emerged that Robert Owen, John Singlaub, Richard L. Armitage, William Casey, Thomas G. Clines, Oliver North, Edwin Wilson and Richard Secord were also involved in this conspiracy to provide arms to the Contras.

On 12th December, 1986, Daniel Sheehan submitted to the court an affidavit detailing the Irangate scandal. He also claimed that Thomas G. Clines and Ted Shackley were running a private assassination program that had evolved from projects they ran while working for the CIA. Others named as being part of this assassination team included Rafael Quintero, Richard Secord, Felix Rodriguez and Albert Hakim. It later emerged that Gene Wheaton and Carl E. Jenkins were the two main sources for this affidavit.

Six days after the publication of Sheehan's affidavit, William Casey underwent an operation for a "brain tumor". As a result of the operation, Casey lost the power of speech and died, literally without ever talking. On 9th February, Robert McFarlane, another person involved in the Iran-Contra Scandal, took an overdose of drugs.

In October, 1985, two journalists, Tony Avirgan and Martha Honey, accused John Floyd Hull of being involved in the La Penca bombing. Hull responds by filing suit against Avirgan and Honey for "injuries, falsehood and defamation of character". During their trial, Avirgan and Honey provide documents and witnesses to support their comments on Hull. As a result the judge rejected Hull's lawsuit.

In a CBS documentary broadcast in April 1986, a former contra pilot identified Hull's ranch as a "major transshipment plant for military supplies and drugs". The following month Daniel Sheehan and the Christic Institute named John Hull, Ted Shackley, Thomas G. Clines, Richard V. Secord, John K. Singlaub, Robert W. Owen, Rafael Quintero, Albert Hakim, Adolfo Calero, Pablo Escobar, Jorge Ochoa and 18 others as major figures in a racketeering network involved in drug trafficking and arms smuggling.

According to Alfred W. McCoy (The Politics of Heroin: CIA Complicity in the Global Drug Trade) Shackley and Clines arranged a meeting in Saigon in 1968 between Santo Trafficante and Vang Pao to establish a heroin-smuggling operation from Southeast Asia to the United States.

Shackley employed David Morales to take charge at Pakse, a black operations base focused on political paramilitary action within Laos. Pakse was used to launch military operations against the Ho Chi Minh Trial. In 1969 Shackley became Chief of Station in Vietnam and headed the Phoenix Program. This involved the killing of non-combatant Vietnamese civilians suspected of collaborating with the National Liberation Front. In a two year period, Operation Phoenix murdered 28,978 civilians.

Shackley also brought others into his drug operation. This included Richard L. Armitage, a US Navy official based in Saigon's US office of Naval Operations, and Major General Richard Secord. According to Daniel Sheehan: “From late 1973 until April of 1975, Theodore Shackley, Thomas Clines and Richard Armitage disbursed, from the secret, Laotian-based, Vang Pao opium fund, vastly more money than was required to finance even the highly intensified Phoenix Project in Vietnam. The money in excess of that used in Vietnam was secretly smuggled out of Vietnam in large suitcases, by Richard Secord and Thomas Clines and carried into Australia, where it was deposited in a secret, personal bank account (privately accessible to Theodore Shackley, Thomas Clines and Richard Secord). During this same period of time between 1973 and 1975, Theodore Shackley and Thomas Clines caused thousands of tons of US weapons, ammunition, and explosives to be secretly taken from Vietnam and stored at a secret "cache" hidden inside Thailand."

This money, with the help of Raphael Quintero, found its way into the Nugan Hand Bank in Sydney. The bank was founded by Michael Hand, a CIA operative in Laos and Frank Nugan an Australian businessman.

Saigon fell to the NLF in April, 1975. The Vietnam War was over. Richard Armitage was dispatched by Shackley, from Vietnam to Tehran. In Iran, Armitage, set up a secret "financial conduit" inside Iran, into which secret Vang Pao drug funds could be deposited from Southeast Asia. According to Daniel Sheehan: “The purpose of this conduit was to serve as the vehicle for secret funding by Shackley's "Secret Team," of a private, non-CIA authorized "Black" operations inside Iran, disposed to seek out, identify, and assassinate socialist and communist sympathizers, who were viewed by Shackley and his "Secret Team" members to be "potential terrorists" against the Shah of Iran's government in Iran. In late 1975 and early 1976, Theodore Shackley and Thomas Clines retained Edwin Wilson to travel to Tehran, Iran to head up the "Secret Team" covert "anti-terrorist" assassination program in Iran.”

Shackley was hoping to eventually replace Bush as director of the CIA. However, the election of Jimmy Carter was a severe blow to his chances. Carter appointed an outsider, Stansfield Turner, as head of the CIA. He immediately carried out an investigation of into CIA covert activities. Turner eventually found out about Shackley’s “Secret Team”. He was especially worried about the activities of Edwin Wilson and the Nugan Hand Bank.

One of the men Wilson employed was former CIA officer Kevin P. Mulcahy. He became concerned about Wilson's illegal activities and sent a message about them to the agency. Shackley was initially able to block any internal investigation of Wilson. However, in April, 1977, the Washington Post, published an article on Wilson's activities stating that he may be getting support from "current CIA employees". Stansfield Turner ordered an investigation and discovered that both Shackley and Thomas G. Clines had close relationships with Wilson. Shackley was called in to explain what was going on. His explanation was not satisfactory and it was made clear that his career at the CIA had come to an end. Richard Helms, reportedly said: "Ted (Shackley) is what we call in the spook business a quadruple threat - Drugs, Arms, Money and Murder."

After leaving the CIA in September, 1979, Shackley formed his own company, Research Associates International, which specialized in providing intelligence to business. He also joined with Thomas G. Clines, Raphael Quintero, and Ricardo Chavez (another former CIA operative) in another company called API Distributors. According to David Corn (Blond Ghost) Edwin Wilson provided Clines with "half a million dollars to get his business empire going". Shackley also freelanced with API but found it difficult taking orders from his former subordinate, Clines. Shackley also established his own company, Research Associates International, which specialized in providing intelligence to business (in other words he sold them classified information from CIA files).

According to Daniel Sheehan: “In 1976, Richard Secord moved to Tehran, Iran and became the Deputy Assistant Secretary of defense in Iran, in charge of the Middle Eastern Division of the Defense Security Assistance Administration. In this capacity, Secord functioned as the chief operations officer for the U.S. Defense Department in the Middle East in charge of foreign military sales of U.S. aircraft, weapons and military equipment to Middle Eastern nations allied to the U.S. Secord's immediate superior was Eric Van Marbad, the former 40 Committee liaison officer to Theodore Shackley's Phoenix program in Vietnam from 1973 to 1975.”

Shackley had still not given up hope that he would eventually be appointed director of the CIA. His best hope was in getting Jimmy Carter defeated in 1980. Shackley had several secret meetings with George H. W. Bush as he campaigned for the Republican nomination (his wife, Hazel Shackley also worked for Bush). Ronald Reagan won the nomination but got the support of the CIA by selecting Bush as his vice president. According to Rafael Quintero, during the presidential campaign, Shackley met Bush almost every week.

It is believed that Shackley used his contacts in the CIA to provide information to Reagan and Bush. This included information that Carter was attempting to negotiate a deal with Iran to get the American hostages released. This was disastrous news for the Reagan/Bush campaign. If Carter got the hostages out before the election, the public perception of the man might change and he might be elected for a second-term.

According to Barbara Honegger, a researcher and policy analyst with the 1980 Reagan/Bush campaign, William Casey and other representatives of the Reagan presidential campaign made a deal at two sets of meetings in July and August at the Ritz Hotel in Madrid with Iranians to delay the release of Americans held hostage in Iran until after the November 1980 presidential elections. Reagan’s aides promised that they would get a better deal if they waited until Carter was defeated.

Singlaub was born in Independence, California on July 10, 1921.[1][dead link] After graduating from Van Nuys High School[citation needed] in 1939 he attended the University of California at Los Angeles and received after graduation his commission as a second lieutenant of infantry on January 14, 1943.[1]

As a member of the distinguished Operation Jedburgh (Singlaub was part of the three man team code name JAMES), Singlaub parachuted behind German lines in August 1944 to work with the French Resistance fighters or Maquis groups that had swelled the resistance ranks after the D-Day invasion during World War II. He headed CIA operations in postwar Manchuria during the Chinese Communist revolution, led troops in the Korean War, managed the secret war along the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Vietnam, and worked with the Contras in Nicaragua.

In 1977, while Singlaub was chief of staff of U.S. forces in South Korea, he publicly criticized President Jimmy Carter's decision to withdraw U.S. troops from the Korean peninsula. On March 21, 1977, Carter relieved him of duty for overstepping his bounds and failing to respect the President's authority as Commander-in-Chief.[2][3]

After retiring from the army, in 1979 Singlaub, with John Rees and Democratic Congressman from Georgia, Larry McDonald founded the Western Goals Foundation. According to The Spokesman-Review, it was intended to "blunt subversion, terrorism, and communism" by filling the gap "created by the disbanding of the House Un-American Activities Committee"[4]

Singlaub was founder in 1981 of the United States Council for World Freedom, the U.S. chapter of the World Anti-Communist League (WACL). The chapter became involved with the Iran–Contra affair,[5] with Associated Press reporting that, "Singlaub's private group became the public cover for the White House operation".[6] The WACL was described by former member Geoffrey Stewart-Smith as "largely a collection of Nazis, Fascists, anti-Semites, sellers of forgeries, vicious racialists, and corrupt self-seekers." Singlaub is credited with purging the organization of these types and making it respectable.[7]

Iran-Contra affair[edit]

Hasenfus was a former Marine from Marinette, Wisconsin, who had been an unemployed construction worker, at the time when he secured work, alleged by Sandinistas to be as a cargo handler for the CIA. This was stated by Hasenfus himself,[1] who later retracted that statement.[2]

Hasenfus was aboard the Fairchild C-123 cargo plane, N4410F,[3] formerly USAF 54-679, (c/n 20128), shot down over Nicaragua on October 5, 1986, while delivering supplies to the Nicaraguan Contras. During the Iran-Contra hearings in 1987, it was established that the aircraft was shot down while participating in a covert operation devised and approved by elements of the United States government. The two pilots and a radio operator died in the crash, but Hasenfus was able to parachute to safety, having disobeyed orders[citation needed] by wearing a parachute on the mission. He was captured by Nicaraguan Sandinista forces, was tried, and was ultimately sentenced to the maximum term of 30 years in prison. In December 1986, at the request of U.S. Senator Chris Dodd, he was pardoned and released by Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega.

Hasenfus' capture and detention helped uncover and publicize the Iran-Contra Affair. A black book of phone numbers in the wreckage tied the plane to an operation run out of Ilopango airbase in El Salvador, supported by anti-Castro exile Felix Rodriguez. Press speculation focused on retired Major General Jack Singlaub as the sponsor; this was encouraged by Oliver North to divert attention from the true head: Richard Secord.

Hasenfus subsequently unsuccessfully sued Secord, Albert Hakim, Southern Air Transport and Corporate Air Services over issues relating to Hasenfus' capture and trial.[4] His lawyer in that case was current Miami District 2 Commissioner Marc D. Sarnoff.

In 1985, the United States Congress discontinued funding for the "Contras," a military force seeking to overthrow the Nicaraguan government. Soon thereafter, Oliver North, a United States Marine Corps lieutenant colonel and National Security Council aide, undertook to arrange covert funding for the Contra rebels. North solicited Richard Secord, a retired Air Force general, to organize an airlift to resupply the Contras. Secord deposited funds for the airlift operation into Swiss bank accounts over which he maintained discretion and control.

Secord engaged Richard Gadd to organize the airlift. Gadd worked with Southern Air Transport (SAT) and Corporate Air Services (CAS) in arranging various services required for the operation, such as maintaining aircraft and hiring personnel.

In early 1986, CAS hired Wallace B. Sawyer, Jr., an Air Force Academy graduate and an experienced combat pilot. William Cooper, also an experienced combat pilot, served as the "on-site manager" for the operation at Ilopango Air Base in El Salvador and as a pilot. What I think is important is that Mermelstein was involved with Hetrick. That is a fact. The two of them recruited an exmilitary and forced him into the business. I think the odds are that they did they to others also. If you look at the articles above it should the type of people who were on these flights and the type of people that took the drugs once they were inside the US.

MIAMI — Max Mermelstein, the government`s leadoff witness against Manuel Noriega, testified Tuesday that he met with an emissary of the Panamanian dictator in 1983 to arrange landing rights for drug and money flights for the Medellin cartel.

The go-between, reportedly a woman named Balbina Perinan, is now a legislator in Panama`s national assembly.

Mermelstein, a 47-year-old Brooklyn native, pleaded guilty several years ago to smuggling 55 tons of cocaine into southern California. A onetime Ft. Lauderdale resident, he entered the drug trade in 1978, dealing exclusively with Rafael Cardona, a cartel operative.

I ordered this book after hearing authors Wright and Riccobono interviewed on NPR. This is the autobiography of a mean spirited, cruel and angry individual, raised to be a criminal and well suited to that path. Jon Riccobono took satisfaction in causing suffering to numbers of people throughout a long criminal career, breaking arms and shooting kneecaps, armed robbery, destroying lives, businesses, families, cooperating with some of the worst criminal gangs in the world, and murdering in this country and Vietnam. He took a special interest in beating, robbing and shooting college kids whom he hated for their higher social status. His victims number in the hundreds. Even his wife says his influence is "based on evil." Riccobono has a long run as a successful criminal, seems not to pull punches in rendering his story, and Evan Wright's writing is precise. Is it a compelling read? Yes. But I had an increasing sense of discomfort as I went along. This is an 'authorized biography' which gives a sociopath a platform to present, and no doubt color, his own story. While he appears forthright and repentant in some ways, the overall effect is to make him out as something of a folk hero ("from mafia soldier to cocaine cowboy").

Riccobono was trained by his father, a crude mafia hoodlum, to understand that one can commit serious crimes and get away with it. The formative lesson of the boy's life at age 10 was his father showing him this by shooting an innocent man in the head over a parking incident. There were no consequences. Little Jon went on to learn you can control people by pain and fear. He describes the proper use of a baseball bat to inflict maximum damage in a beating. He admits to atrocities against noncombatant civilians in Vietnam, including the torture of VC prisoners by skinning them alive. He makes it clear that he 'enjoyed every minute' of the killing, including women and children. Disgusting. Then on to his 'career' and strong arm tactics used to control the nightclub business in New York. This includes admissions of cold blooded executions. Next phase, a major drug trafficker. Bonded with a Columbian drug supplier by encouraging him to throw an American college girl off a building. Preyed even on his fellow criminals by systematically ratting them out to the cops; once again his own wife was amazed at his coldness. Pleasant fellow. Riccobono is street smart obviously. But his theory that 'evil is stronger than good' - nonsense. He was just lucky. He belongs in a cage; why he served only a moderate prison term is not completely explained in this book, because he downplays his cooperation with law enforcement for a reduced sentence. Right up there with the Whitey Bulger story and just as nauseating.

One of those enemies, she learned, was Daniel A. Mitrione, Jr., an undercover FBI agent who'd become a high-rolling drug smuggler while orchestrating Airlift. Mitrione. The name haunts her. For Donna it has come to symbolize not only her husband's terrible fate, but also the darkest part of her country's heart. The story begins not with the former agent, but with his father, a man who has been both hailed as a national hero and accused of being one of the worst torturers in America's history.

Daniel A. Mitrione, Sr. was never an FBI man; he was a small-town Indiana police chief who helped lead a covert war against leftist groups in Latin America.



What the general public didn't know was that Mitrione, Sr. had been doing far more than teaching helpful police tactics in South America. Former Uruguayan police officials and CIA operatives claimed Mitrione had taught brutal, deadly techniques of torture in the cellar of his Montevideo home. They alleged he electrically shocked his victims' mouths and genitals, among other ghastly things. In one of the most disturbing revelations, reported by a CIA operative from Cuba named Manuel Hevia Conculluela, Mitrione was said to have practiced on beggars picked up from the capital's streets, four of whom reportedly died while serving as human guinea pigs.


The younger Mitrione also seemed ordinary and, like his father, quickly assembled an impressive resumé. With dark hair and an athletic build, he attended the University of Maryland, where he majored in international affairs and, after graduating, volunteered to serve in Vietnam. In 1972, two years after his father's assassination, he joined the FBI. But even as he began what might have seemed a promising career with the Bureau, the agent harbored a disturbing secret. Mitrione, whom other agents found competent if moody and hot-tempered, believed that his father had been murdered by his own government. He joined the FBI for only one reason: to track down his father's killers in the U.S. State Department and terminate them.


And soon thereafter Mitrione took the reins of Operation Airlift, the FBI's very first foray into the drug war.

Airlift was built around an informant named Hilmer Sandini, a tall and charismatic fraud artist who offered his services to the feds to avoid drug-smuggling charges in Alabama and a fraud rap in Fort Lauderdale. At age 56, the Philadelphia-born con man called "Sandy" was old enough to be Mitrione's father -- and was said to bear a striking resemblance to the assassinated official. Mitrione and Sandini quickly formed a strong bond. Other agents noticed that Mitrione affectionately called his informant "the old man," while Sandini routinely addressed the agent as "son."


Knowing this, the FBI persuaded authorities in Broward County and Alabama to suspend Sandini's prison sentences. The agency then paid the informant $800 a week and paired him with Mitrione, whom Sandini introduced to the criminal underworld of South Florida as "Danny Micelli," a Chicago mobster.

The new crime-fighting duo set up headquarters in a rental car agency near the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. But just as Airlift seemed ready to take off, a major problem developed: The owner of Globe Rentals, a Mafia associate named Frank Esposito, didn't buy Mitrione's act. He confronted "Micelli" and accused him of being a cop. The problem was quickly solved; Esposito was gunned down in his office March 30, 1982.



Sandini and Mitrione organized the deals and arranged for distribution of the drugs, usually in Pittsburgh, a city where Sandini had contacts in organized crime. They conducted their business in hangar 24 at the executive airport, where Mitrione usually sat in a front office while Sandini, playing the role of godfather, sat in back. For his undercover role, the FBI put up the married Mitrione in an oceanfront condo on Galt Ocean Mile that Sandini called the "playpen." They chased women, frequented prostitutes, and on at least one occasion the agent snorted cocaine. Their favorite haunt was the Laughing Fish Pub, which was located in a since-closed Holiday Inn in Fort Lauderdale.

They were big tippers.

"On birthdays and Christmas, they were more than generous with me and the other girls," says Marie Locie, who was one of Sandini's favorite cocktail waitresses at the Laughing Fish. "Sandy gave me a thousand-dollar watch for my birthday and he put my roommate through nursing school. He'd grab you by the arm and say, 'Marie, we need more drinks.' He was a big guy, a control freak. You could tell by his nature."


The duo still managed to make millions of dollars on their illegal activities -- right under the Bureau's nose. Internal FBI reports indicate that Mitrione received little to no supervision. Numerous signs that the agent had gone bad were either ignored or condoned. For instance, Mitrione rarely ever wore a wire and he always seemed, mysteriously, to become unavailable when the FBI wanted to bug hangar 24. As he awaited his prison sentence and worked for BSO, Krugh continued to crisscross the southern skies, smuggling copious amounts of illegal drugs. On top of that, Mitrione and others began to notice that Krugh was freebasing cocaine. While trying to satisfy his bosses at BSO, the pilot went after a big fish in the smuggling world: Stanley Combs, a raw-boned Louisianan who ran drug boats to and from the Bahamas. Together the two men would eventually take Airlift down.

And Krugh's actions may have helped seal Gary Weaver's fate.

Unbeknownst to Krugh, Combs was already working as an informant for DEA agent B.J. Church, who is now retired. Church remembers when Combs told him about Krugh and a couple of smugglers named Sandini and Micelli. The DEA agent quickly realized that Micelli was really Dan Mitrione. "We hit on Mitrione and then said, 'Oh my God, this guy's an FBI agent,'" Church recalls of the case.


Attempts to reach Buttino, who received a commendation and a cash award for his work on Airlift, were unsuccessful. But a call was answered by Lou Buttino, the former agent's brother and coauthor of A Special Agent. The professor at the University of North CarolinaWilmington had startling news. "The book was a lie and my brother is in hiding," he explained.

The lie, Lou Buttino said, wasn't about Airlift. Rather it involved the central theme of the book, that the agent was drummed out of the FBI because it was discovered by his superiors that he was gay. Though it made the former agent a hero in the gay community, Lou Buttino said the book was full of fabrications designed to help his brother win a settlement from the Justice Department. When he realized A Special Agent was fiction, he says he sued his brother, whom he now is convinced is a "sociopath," for fraud and won a judgment of $300,000. "[Frank Buttino] went underground, I guess to avoid paying me, and nobody knows where he is today," the professor explained. "It broke my heart and destroyed my family."

Of the Bureau he added, "The FBI is almost like the Mafia. They adhere to omerta, the code of silence. They don't reveal the things that are going on."

The cocaine overlords, however, had an incentive to organize. With a product worth 10 times more than pot and with an escalating War on Drugs, the cartels became more like streamlined multinational corporations. They had their own security forces, advanced money-laundering systems, large-scale processing laboratories, and, most important, street-level distribution networks, making them a model of vertical integration.

Out of everyone involved, it was Bailey who came out smelling like a rose. He got $7,000 from the Black Tunas for his participation, plus $10,000 from the government for his role as an informant. After the bust, Bailey skimmed 500 pounds of pot from the shipment — a little icing on the cake that he turned around and sold for $97,000, the News and Observer newspaper in Raleigh, North Carolina, reported. When all was said and done, he was granted immunity from prosecution and ended up pocketing the ill-gotten cash. Bailey generated a bit of his own myth: T-shirts reading "Don't Shoot, I'm Not Wade Bailey" were in high demand along the beaches of North Carolina.


"Operation Banco" was all over the headlines. Indeed a thorough review of bank transactions ultimately brought the Tunas down, the feds claimed. Former DEA agent Michael Levine says the agencies wanted the public to believe there was a new, fresh way to fight the war. But no one, least of all Levine, could really argue that the Tunas were busted up by anything or anyone other than Wade Bailey and George Purvis Jr.

"Informants are the name of the game," Levine says. "If you have an informant in the organization, you're gonna make the case."

The grief Red Dog caused was a high price to pay for what the federal prosecutors got: The two inmates Red Dog testified against to gain his release from prison were both acquitted of the crime.

Keeping the money
In order to do combat in the war on drugs, the federal government often seizes the money and property of drug dealers. But if the drug dealers snitch on others and enter the Witness Security Program, they often get their freedom and keep their millions.
When the U.S. government was preparing its racketeering case against former Panamanian president Manuel Noriega, it offered witness protection to some of the biggest drug dealers in the world.

In exchange for their testimony against Noriega, at least 20 members of drug cartels around the world received drastically reduced or token prison sentences and were released, along with their drug money. One is Max Mermelstein, a Miami dealer who told prosecutors Noriega had taken payoffs from the Medellin cartel in exchange for allowing smugglers to use his country as a way-station for drug shipments. He served less than two years despite admitting to smuggling 56 tons of cocaine worth $12.5 billion into this country. He is now free and living under an assumed name with his massive wealth.

Floyd Carlton Canceres, a former Noriega pilot and Panamanian military official, admitted to smuggling 1,000 kilograms of cocaine worth $25 million and faced a sentence of life plus 145 years in prison until he helped prosecutors with Noriega. He was released after only two years in a protected witness unit, followed by three years of parole. The government paid $211,681 for Carlton's living expenses, which included the purchase of a car. His deal included relocation of more than 20 members of his family, including a baby sitter.

Carlton was not required to forfeit any of his wealth or property he owns in Panama.

Even while protected witnesses are still in prison, they lead lives considerably more comfortable than do other prisoners. In fact, the witness units are unlike any other prisons in the world.

In ordinary prisons, telephone calls are usually limited to a few a week, and collect calls are the only ones allowed.

But in the protected witness units, the prisoners get free use of federal telephones and can call anywhere in the world at taxpayers' expense. Protected witnesses in favor with prosecutors get unlimited access to the phones.

In addition, they are permitted to use their own money to buy food, appliances, jewelry, athletic equipment, and just about anything from any place that will deliver.

"I ate lobster, crab meat, we even roasted a pig once,'' said George E. Taylor Jr., who spent almost six years in the protected witness units.

Each inmate is provided with a color television with cable that includes pay-per-view so they can watch programming ranging from prize fights to pornographic movies.

In addition, all of the protected witnesses interviewed for these reports say illegal drugs or prescribed mind-altering drugs are easy to get in the unit.

A MILE-LONG PERFECT LEFT

Thumper credits his first glimpse of coke to the legendary Cocaine Carol.

“All she did was coke,” he says. “It was like her job. Fifteen years later, I was addicted to it. But back then, she was way ahead of her time.”

But he says his first taste of the betrayal and greed that came with dealing cocaine occurred in the early 1970s, when he went to Peru on a surfing safari with John Gale.

“We went to this fishing village called Chicama,” Thumper says. “We surfed the perfect wave. It was a mile-long perfect left. It was absolutely the best wave I have ever seen in my life. Gale paid for the trip. We stayed there seven days. And on the third day there, Johnny says, ‘I need to use your surfboard. I’m going to another place and I’m probably going to be gone the night.” Gale headed over a surf break with Thumper’s board, returning shortly before they were to fly back to Orange County. When they landed at LAX, Gale handed him $500.

“He says, ‘Here, Thump.’ And I’m like, ‘What the hell’s that for?’” Gale laughed — and then explained that he’d stashed eight ounces of pure cocaine in the tail fin of Thumper’s board.

“They didn’t tell me about it because it would make me nervous,” he says. Thumper threw the money in Gale’s face. “I was *ed. I wasn’t 14 anymore. I was big. And I said, ‘You know what? That is fucked up. I could have ended up in prison. You’re a * prick.’ At that point, I knew everything had changed, because I was a patsy.”

Thumper kept away from Gale for the next few years. But while attending college in Fullerton, he got a call from Gale. His old friend told him he had a lot of cocaine and needed help unloading it. “He was known as the king of cocaine at that point in time,” Thumper says. “I wanted money, so I started selling it to all the groovy people in northern Orange County. I was selling like, six, seven, eight ounces of blow a week through Johnny. And then I got busted in San Clemente.”

By the time he was arrested, narcotics detectives had been following Thumper all day; he faced 21 drug-related counts. The cops wanted him to set up Gale. “They said, ‘You work with us or go to jail.’ I said, ‘I guess I’m going to jail,’ because I wasn’t ready to talk about anybody. But I soul-searched and realized how I wound up where I was. And I was looking at a shitload of years. And you know what I thought about: that surfing trip to Peru.”

After getting a stern lecture on the folly of dealing drugs, Thumper agreed to work as an informant. But he refused to snitch on Gale. “He would have killed me. He had bodyguards and Ferraris and all this crazy * — a brand-new Mercedes — and you know what? The weird thing was he was not a nice guy anymore.”

I cant help but think gsk practiced some form of martial arts. The glove found seems similar to the mma glove below. It seems plausible that gsk was also an avid surfer or beach go'er. I know when I lived in Northwoods, we would head down Laguna Canyon and then drive south, checking out all the good breaks until we decided where we were going to surf that day. Sometimes we stopped there at St Annes in Laguna and surfed the reef break, or if the tide was wrong, we would head on down to Salt Creek, and even go all the way to Trestles and San Onofre depending on the direction of the swells. Salt Creek was awesome but it had that very long walk. It was a place you would take the girls and the family and spend the whole day. I would think the Harringtons would have walked there too.

JPL's concepts for a Titan aerobot have included a hydrogen balloon, with the hydrogen extracted from methane in Titan's atmosphere; a superpressure balloon that would drift until it found an interesting site and then vent itself to drop a payload onto the moon's surface; a reversible-fluid balloon that would be able to travel from site to site; and, most recently, a montgolfiere balloon. The montgolfiere is now seen as the best option, since in the cold atmosphere the montgolfiere would be able to float on the waste heat of an atomic radioisotope generator used to power the payload, and the fact that hot air balloons are much more tolerant of leaks than other configurations would allow the Titan balloon to float for years.

A powered airship would be very attractive for cruising around Titan, and JPL engineers have been flying small, commercially-available radio-controlled blimps to test out control systems. One particularly ingenious concept explored by JPL, the "Titan Aerover", combined aerobot and rover. This vehicle featured a triangular frame that connected three balloons, each about two meters (6.6 feet) in diameter. After entry into Titan's atmosphere, the aerover would float until it found an interesting site, then vent helium to descend to the surface. The three balloons would then serve as floats or wheels as necessary. JPL built a simple prototype that looked like three beachballs mounted on a tubular frame.

Not to be rude, but what does this have to do with EAR/ONS? The connection to some drug running millitary people sounds tenuous at best. On the A&E board their was one guy who had a theory one of the victims was an informant and thats why he was killed. The thing is if one of the victims was a police informant, it would have been released to the public. The informant would be dead no reason to protect their idenity as an informant. Also, over time if it was a big conspiracy someone would have talked by now. I just feel like that is an avenue that is a waste of resources. Sorry if I offended someone, but thats my opinion.

Skelly, I dont take offense. I have never claimed to be the smartest knife in the drawer, and i know I cant do what the others on this board can do. So I thought if I want to help I should try and find the longshots and the things other people might be too convservative to investigate. I have done much of my research in a "outside in" approach. Finding people with motive and then looking at them more closely while keeping the case and the other events of the day in mind. I dont have access to the details of the case so there isnt anyway I could hope to improve upon what others can do. I dont have a LE or psych background so I cant help in profiling the guy or anything in that regard. The reason I post so much is that if anything I find might help others they know where to find it. Since I am interested in the case and would be doing this anyways, I dont see the sense in just keeping it on my computer. Hopefully someone might find something that could explain a connection in there somewhere. Maybe somebody might add to it. Right now I am intrigued with Woofy, the connection between Hetrick and Bloomingdale and his cronies, and a poi from San Jose who is suspected of a series of murders in Idaho. He gave DNA to LE with the understanding that they would only compare it to DNA from a series in WA and then destroy it. What is also cool is that he was an actor, a real estate agent, and a set designer. Bloomingdale and Bren, Woofy,all had histories of acting productions as well. This case has so many connections. I have spent countless hours researching signmakers, print shops, crop dusting companies, but the worst was the bondage people. Again Bloomingdale is right there in the middle of that, and considering that his mistress was bludgeoned with a baseball bat, someone should look at that. It is interesting to consider who gained by her death at just that moment. Can you imagine Betsy Bloomingdale and Heidi Fleiss having lunch with Dominick Dunne? Did you know his sister in law was Joan Didion? Have you read the Late Great State of California? And, for the most part, i have tried to keep my posts in their own thread.



Anyway the more I talk the more I sound like a nut and I really need to be going, some of the aluminum foil that stops the remote viewing is falling off the windows! But maybe you already know that.....
