We have people in our world that murder for personal gain. Outside of the 'accidental' armed robberies, we have murderers who do what it is they can to facilitate 'their' addiction. Who are they to us? What do they mean to society as a whole? What would you do if you felt there was nowhere else to go...
They're simply evil to most. They're an interesting hobby to study for others.
My ultimate question is what does a serial killer have in common with the common drug addict? Another question is how can addiction affect a killer?
Now of course the human life and privacy are priceless things. But what does murder have in common with addiction? Are they so different that we could not accept one for the other? Not in this life, of course, as facts are diluted and put past those interested in learning the truths behind certain things.
We can never really know what the causes of homicidal impulses in a human being are. But we can try to examine it. We can try to build it in such ways that we can argue the causes and effects in behavior.
I myself, am an addict. I've seen much in people during courses of rehabilitation and rebuilding my life that I can now clearly see where I went wrong and learn from it. Can we all be so fortunate? More to the point, are there some out there who cannot control it? By this I mean the murderers... there are many, many, many people who have murdered for less than one hundred dollars in order to 'complete their lives'. But someone like Dennis Rader, whose addiction in the beginning was sex with women he'd never stand a chance with. This all leads to a domino effect that would not only end the lives of many but change the life of the one being responsible.
EAR was a very special caliber. His motives are really only guessed. Zodiac was an attention whore on top of being a murderer.
This thread is for the discussion of addiction vs madness. What do you think?
