"Dumb Fuc%#!s" Call

One part of that I did not bold relates to some of the alleged calls.. although I cannot find a place to hear them I can't compare for sure. I still would love to find a source to listen to the calls- especially this and the Is Ray there? call.... which I have heard, but not for a long time. This one, never heard.

However someone mentioned a page or few back that the caller in this call, and possibly another, seemed flustered and to trip over their words- as if unprepared for the police to answer on the other end, or he hadn't prepared his prompt speech- something like that. As I said, if I could play the call I'd give my .2 but only knowing what I have read about it, these symptoms also apply:

Stuttering
Apraxia - inability to carry out an action, such as reading, without neurological cause


From reading about some of these calls, it would seem that he was either reading from a script (like he spoke during attacks), repeating threats to instil fear/terror (the call "I'm...gonna..kill you...*..whore" which I have heard would come to mind as one with a preplanned "message") vs. the calls which he seems to almost stumble during (based on comments- I really, really want to find a source for these but lamag seems to have taken them down).

Just thinking about it now... from the comments. This call, I need to backtrack now, and find the page I read the comment about how he seemed surprised or tripped up when SFPD (I believe?) answered the other end of the phone.

I finally was able to listen to the Dumb f's call, as well as re-listen to the "Ray" call. They are both on YT (with a comparison to Ted K audio... which is pointless, but the audio to the Ray call is replayed and slowed down a bit which is kind of helpful, and the other call is also there. I am unsure if the soundcloud I had heard other calls on (the late '70s "gonna kill you" one for instance) has them or not, but I had trouble navigating it on this old junkbox of a PC I'm using (windows XP may be why certain links or things do not work, as I heard XP isn't being supported anymore by some programs etc.- I digress)

So I did some digging and YT does have the phone call, though pardon the Ted K stuff:

I have to admit that the Is Ray there? caller does not sound much like the taunting phone call to me. Obviously there is a disguise on the "dumb f'ers" call... or some attempt, I would assume. At the same time, hearing both phone calls, the "dumb f's" call sounds like it definitely has some Cal vernacular. A "valley" type of sound. My friend (who would now be nearing 30 now, we've lost touch due to our own personal lives taking turns for the worst at the same time...) had family that lived in at least 3 different areas where attacks took place. My friend mainly recalled their fear in telling stories, since he was a little bit too young to really take it in. To the point, while he has lived in various areas of Cal mostly the entire duration (some which had previously seen EAR/ONS attacks, probably the same his elders had resided tbh) I knew and kept in (mostly daily) touch with him, I lived miles away and in various parts of IL, Chicago, and some other midwest regions. So we spoke almost exclusively over phone/microphone/etc. when talking daily. To keep phone costs down, we would use internet services (ie we both had a network membership for Playstation or Microsoft or something, so we'd talk over that and such).

Due to talking with him, without a face attached, I grew to notice over the years just how much Cal/surfer/valley 'boy'(?...for lack of better term) he had in his voice This friend of mine would have been between 22ish to about 26 when we last were in touch on a daily basis, and I hadn't thought about just how identifiable Cal slang can sound.

The "Is Ray there?" doesn't sound like the dumb f's call to me.... I would put more merit on the dumb f's being the actual EAR and is Ray there? being..I dunno. Perhaps the same person. Is it out of the question to wonder if EAR had someone who he could have used for the Ray call? Perhaps there was a recorded source he had? It is very clear and doesn't sound like it is being played back or anything by any means, but to me ...I dunno, it sounds like the dumb f's call is in the moment and how he may speak if he were to let his guard down and talk in normal tone. Is Ray There? sounds more like a disguise if either/or (both) came from the same person. The taunting phone call, he doesn't seem to be following a script and seems to be just talking off of his dome. I would think that he spoke more like that, perhaps in a slightly higher tone as it does sound like he is trying to disguise his voice by muttering/speaking in a lower tone. But Is Ray There just sounds... different to me. If that is his real voice, I don't think it is as high-pitched as everyone has said it sounded... just my opinion/.2 having finally heard the calls.

The gonna kill you call most definitely sounds like the taunting dumb f***s call.... I would say I am pretty sure those are one in the same. Ray- I have no idea.

I have considered running some of the audio through some of my sound gear. I had taken some courses on audio engineering, and while I never finished up, I do have a decent amount of gear sitting around- most of which I use for personal recordings and/or dictation- but it can alter and help clean up sounds in ways digital cannot always do so... or at least it can depending on the source of audio. If I could find the right tool out of the various junk I have, I think I could manipulate the voice on some of this audio a bit to see if there is any way to get a better listen...

Figure it's worth a shot without much else going on this week for me. Nothing to do save for a doctor's apt. Thursday night. :shrug:

go for it bro. Folks with the equipment are what LE really need in this case as they usually have to contract or warrant for their usage. Good luck finding a clean clip of it though, as I believe the originals posted on Michelles article are no longer accessible.

If anyone can tell me how to play these on the article, do tell please.

On the very first page of this thread (I think? or one of the calls listing to "Hear the GSK" McNamara page) another user speaks of the exact issue I have had with those links (if they even exist anymore?)... Just white text which looks to be a sub-link. I am on Windows XP right now (I know...) so I had thought that perhaps the site did not support whatever I have up and running on this computer (it is incredibly old and maintained as best as I could- a friend who is good with that helped me clean it up, but for practical purposes this is an old desktop I used only because I installed a really nice sound card on it when I was into audio engineering as a possible practice and also recording indie bands in the Chicago area for cheap $ many years back). So this computer is easily 10-15 years old. :/ I figured that the white text that looked like a clicked link was all I could see, and it was maybe a flash issue or something w/ my browser and playing in the browser. The same thing the user described was the issue I was having. I think that user's post was years old though.. so assuming they were taken down, it helps to know for sure I had been toying with my browsers to see if I could find the arrows some users spoke of. Now I figure the links have simply been removed. If anybody does have these saved and could get them to me...

I have a lot of analog gear, and not so much digital. My bigger concern would be "loading" (for lack of a better term?) the sound into anything I may have without too much decompression; I have a bunch of different things with different purposes, and while admittedly I pursued this due to my love of music and tinkering with sound boards, I do remember how to use all of the stuff. I have a few sampling devices that *are* digital, though. I wouldn't worry as much about getting a really clean recording into those... But the analog equipment, which I have had more success with in the past depending on what I was trying to accomplish... I will have to poke around and see what I have. In the mean time, if anybody is willing and able to send me quality copies (from the LAmag source or otherwise..?), I can at the very least try my best and run 'em through the stuff I have, tinker and see if I can get anything. In the mean time I think I might use some of the samplers or sampling devices on the audio that is out there- coarse as it is or not. I can play with tempo and pitch control on there... the analog devices I have feature this too, and I've found more success cleaning stuff up with analog vs. digital... but I'm one of those pro-analog in a digital world nerds.. :S

I will try to run that youtube call through my digital samplers or any sampling devices I have in the mean time. See if I can hear some of the b/g audio perhaps, play with the speed/tone/etc... Digital vs. analog has pros and cons for this stuff IMO.... but I can still use my digital gear and see what happens.

If anyone knows of other sources though it would def. help... YT is literally the only place I could locate this dumb fucksss call, as well as Ray (which is actually OK quality). A user here has a soundcloud with the '78 call in pretty damn good quality that I can work with as well so that is one of the calls I have in solid quality. I believe it may be the rip from LAMag- it's about 1:17 long?....

I'll def. give it a go. It should be a pretty slow week and weather here is in spring showers bring super allergies mode.

Relentless- that is who has a soundcloud with a lot of clean recordings. I will need to go through it, perhaps contact him and see if he has the others (his avatar says he is currently in the middle of relocation or a move I think- so I will wait until I see him active here again to ask).

Quality seems quite good... This audio reminds me more of the taunting dumb f's call from the YT video ... I am more convinced that the dumb f's call is how he would sound speaking off the top of his head, in mid-conversation let's say, whereas "Is Ray there?.." sounds like another person- not as raspy as the taunt or disguised gonna kill you call- and just not the same...If it is him, Ray sounds more disguised to me- but I don't now.
I really, really find the Ray call odd. Seems way too coincidental that it wouldn't be related given the call that came later that evening, but it just doesn't sound like the same person. Probably just my ears. If I held any merit I would say I am 99% certain the DF's and Gonna Kill You caller is definitely one in the same. Where Is Ray? sounds like someone else... it's just weird to me, because I cannot see EARONS using someone to make a phone call, and the coincidence is too strong in my mind for it to not be related to the later call that that night....

I dunno, but I think I am going to try to run the Is Ray There audio from youtube and the linked call from relentless' soundcloud, and see what I can pick apart... I will post back later assuming the day doesn't throw me a snafu and try to upload what I come up with (if anything worthwhile) to my own soundcloud later this evening. I hope I can find something, anything in the Ray call ...it just doesn't fit right with me. I don't know... The idea someone else made the call for him (adding to the idea there was an occasional accomplice, which I have read here or there- I don't know what to think about that really... seems too risky even for EARONS or at least over time, I would think he would grow tired of an accomplice... the idea he had personality disorders is pretty believable and I don't think someone else could handle working with him either. I don't know, *am I* whacky for not hearing similarities to the Ray call w/ the others?? It sticks out like a sore thumb to me....

I wanted to try and make things a little easier for everyone, including myself since I'm researching criminology on my own, which is basically my "special interest" yeah, aspergers..or I guess now Autism + I'm from Australia. Which makes it extremely hard for me and basically puts any POI'S off the table for me to look into thoroughly but that's only really one side to any research imo, but I digress.

Zode - That was my video and it is perfectly all right with me. The voice of Ted was from public radio so I think it is public domain, but you cut that out, which is fine. The original still exists at Youtube so people can hear the comparison if they want. If the EAR objects to his voice being used he can come forward and file a complaint! Are you going to add the "Is Ray there part?" The one good thing about that part is the voice is not as distorted as in the "dumb F@#$%^s" call. I don't care if you mention my name but if you can please give credit at sound cloud to AweShucks, he did a lot of the work helping me get this together and cleaned up the "dumb f@#$%^s" call to make it better and more audible, and slowed down the "Ray" call.
