I am looking at the nature of the crimes and extrapolating to a perpetrator that holds himself in tight control,( a la my Poster Boy, Rader.). Had the crimes been more crazy, ( involving really extreme things like writing pentagrams on the wall in blood, or cannibalism, like good old Hadden Clarke), then I'd be more inclined to agree with you, that this guy probably lives under a bridge. Convince me I'm wrong! I double dog dare you.

Regarding a psychopath being extremely organized, and dedicated to his agenda, I've wondered if the GSK planned to stop at a specific time, his "planned exile". Maybe Janelle Cruz was so tempting to him that he came out of exile to murder her, then slipped back into the anonymity of his "planned exile".

If the 1991 phone call to a victim is real, then GSK could still be living in Sacramento and some of the home locations of victims are still very visible from those levees at night.  I also think , if he had died, that someone may have found his stash of souvenirs and that has not happened.  

However, serial killer Rodney Alcala, actually rented a locker in a different state to stockpile his souvenirs. Those type of storage units  are probably routinely cleared out if abandoned.

Port - I referenced this in a different thread regarding the crime where EAR took an abnormally large amount of items (e.g. dishes, camera equipment, etc.) and I believe you referred the question to Guessting, but I'd like to revisit the question in light of this post.

Is there some type of available list of items stolen from the numerous crime scenes, whether public or private? As I'm sure everyone has seen over the past few years, especially anyone who posted on A&E, storage units are routinely sold at auction and their contents regularly end up in thrift shops and ebay for resale. Similar to the scenario that Mishmac describes in the LA Magazine article, it could be a fruitful avenue of investigation if there were any unique identifiable items. Obviously, this would be a long-shot endeavor, but at this point I would imagine every possibility should be explored.

There's a list and I will try to be vaguely specific. Ear took some Victim's licenses, social security cards, clock radios, single earrings, pairs of earrings, class rings, coins, a two dollar bill folded in a very specific way, cuff links, a typewriter, items that had engravings near and dear to the victims. I will refresh my memory and get back to you.

And as soon as DNA got widespread publicity all those mementos went bye bye. And in my opinion if SoCal wants to solve this case they better be careful with anything they get from LE in Sacramento. I know that plays into the interdepartmental conflicts that went on all those years ago but I know enough about LE in the Central Valley to be careful how much stock I put in anything they say.

This guy has never left town..... when he committed these horrendous acts ... he was just visiting. I did a search and found out that where ever his relative lived the crimes started and stopped whenever this relative moved. My search concluded that his relative was residing in the area when all these crimes wers committed. Yes .. this relative moved alot. He still resides in his home town....

I think this guy lives in the OC somewhere and if he was into caring for himself then it's not a stretch to think he is still alive. But I think whatever drives this guy that urge...I think he must fight it off like an addiction and therefore like most addicts I think he probably fellow off that wagon now and then, so I think there are other victims still out there.

I want state something for the record that I find quite interesting. The movie "Manhunter" which was originally released in 1986 (note the date) was about a serial killer who murdered couples/families in their own homes in the middle in night while they were sleeping. Now there are differences between the killer's MO in the movie and the ONS. However I will tell you one scene that was rather disturbing.

In the beginning of the movie it shows the killer entering the home and walking up the stairs with a flashlight (hint. We know ONS preferred single story middle class homes with attached garages which doesn't fit here). Anyway the scene where he opens the master bedroom door and he puts the light from the flashlight on the female until she wakes to stare at him. This part of the movie made the hair on the back of the neck stand up from the knowledge in this case.

How many people think that our guy saw this movie when released to either critique it or place himself in the position of the killer? Furthermore I need to check when in 1986 this movie was released and more importantly was it near the time of the Cruz attack? This is just one viewpoint but the movie was the beginning of the Hannibal Lecter series which of course The Silence of The Lambs was spun off.

It is a stretch. But a very strange coincidence regarding the year and the similar methods of attack.

i understand that his flashlights days far preceded the movie. My point was did this movie trigger something in him or make him think about the "old times"? Was this a trigger for him in anyway? Again it is probably a stretch but the similarities in that first scene were pretty obvious. In addition with the movie being released in the same year of his last murder is either a coincidence or something more disturbing.

I watched the film 'Manhunter' a few months ago, having previously seen it years ago, and also having seen the film 'Red Dragon', which is based on the same novel. I also noticed similarities with the EAR/ONS case, like the murderer in 'Manhunter' peeping on potential victims, but there are many differences too, like EAR/ONS not being known to have murdered children.

The murder of Janelle Cruz took place over three months before 'Manhunter' was released in the cinemas, so I would doubt that EAR/ONS had seen the film beforehand. As for events that may have been public knowledge tempting EAR/ONS into killing again, and I would suggest that the most likely scenario for that, would have been how much publicity Richard Ramirez was getting at the time, and EAR/ONS wanting to get mentioned in the media as well.
