Importance of attack #16 April 2, 1977

There were many suspicious circumstances leading up to #16 which helps to prove my claim of importance to EAR. In January of 1977, a prowler matching EAR physical description was chased by a neighbor of victim #16 and in February of the same year, a neighbor's home was burglarized by an unknown suspect(s). On around 3/77 a neighbor reported what they thought was a Policeman around the home of victim #16 late at night. In the same month, a neighbor was selling their home and there were suspicious persons reported to have attended the open house. On 3/24/77 a neighbor encountered a phony meter reader ending with the suspect fleeing in an unknown vehicle and speeding away and around that same time another neighbor reported shoe prints in his yard matching other attacks and finding an empty meat wrapper in his backyard. This neighbor did have a dog and that may be the answer to why dogs were not barking at EAR suspect if he was building relationships with dogs by feeding them during his prowling.
The importance of how many months prior to attack EAR spent prowling and surveilling the area for this particular attack. Important reminder this was the large leap fro the East Area Rapist it was his first couple attack. The one that would define him as a serious predator and raise the level of threat to include a much larger span of the population not just single women or girls were in danger now he had crossed the line into the world many people thought was safe. It is a huge leap forward in an offender's MO to change it up from a system that in his mind had to have been successful. He had to have known that this act would heighten his criminal status forever and he obviously liked it and it drove him deeper into the fantasy world of his mind.
The victim's both worked in a pharmacy was that important? did it lead him to this neighborhood? or had he already branched out here due to the bike trail that leads behind the housing area? This 23-mile bike trail attaches itself to the Rancho area and would seem to be a natural progression to attack this area. The amount of time EAR spends preattack prowling tell me how important a particular victim is to him and this one had months of preparation. The couple aspect is another important detail what about them did EAR crave so much so he was willing to risk detection with so many reports of prowling and yet continue on with the attack? There are some attacks where EAR appears to really want a particular victim as opposed to the ones where he seems to go after an alternative victim or takes advantage of a victim who is made available to him. This one is on the list of he really wanted victim #16 even though a male would be present a male that was said to have a gun collection and shot firearms regularly. He was going after a victim that had a male and a male that may have a firearm waiting for him as he entered the home. There were indications from neighbors also on the attack night the dogs in the neighborhood started barking loudly around 2230 hrs and if that was EAR he laid in wait from that time until 0130 hours. This also tells me things that I believe that EAR would lay in the backyards of the victims and their neighbors for hours at a time perhaps waiting out the dogs barking and of course waiting out the victim's returning home and going to sleep.
