I apologize beforehand for what might seem insensitive. I in no way shape or form am implying that anyone in this family is Earons. What I am stating is that in regards to the allegation of rape Janelle had made and was considering filing charges for, that her death brought a quick and quiet end to those allegations. From what I have read, shortly after Janelle's murder the family left town. I dont believe they were even considered as possible suspects until last year when the alleged rapist had his DNA checked and cleared against the Earons DNA. But if Janelle would have had the chance to file those charges, the alleged rapist and his family's life would have most likely been very different. Whether the charges were true or not, or whether they could have been proven in court of law doesnt really matter.
I also welcome those with more knowledge about these allegations and their consequences to step in and correct me. Or add to this. In my opinion, Janelle's murder is the key to the case.
From what I understand, the alleged rape occurred 1.5 years prior to her murder. She was considering filing charges since the SOL had not run out. These allegations were not a secret. Both families and friends were aware of them. I suppose it would have had a polarizing effect on Janelle's and the other families circle of friends. I have read some accounts that for some of her friends it was a bitter point of discussion. I cant imagine the conflict Janelle must have been feeling in this regard.
At some point during this thread I would like to name the family in question. I dont see why it is not public knowledge. I lived there during this time and know some of the people involved. Kenji Gallo, a noted criminal and FBI snitch, also knew Janelle and the daughters of the alleged rapist. The family also had family connections to the OCDA's office at the time. And the father was a marine stationed at El Toro MCAS. Again from what I have read, the Marine and his family were never questioned by IPD about the allegations, nor were they questioned at the time of Janelle's murder. I am amazed at this. It took almost thirty years after her death to test the Marine's DNA. Personally I never thought he was Earons. For most of the posters I read, the rape allegations are of little consequence to Janelle's murder. So if that is the predominate belief, then the rape allegations are not connected to the Earons crimes, and there for it would be like mentioning Manier or Glasby and their life prior to their peripheral involvement with the Earons case. Even if the rape allegations are not true, or could not have been proven, the allegations themselves were true. And they alleged that a certain Marine raped Janelle at his home while she slept over at his home visiting his daughter. We know who the Marine was, who the family was, who was and who was not notified, and who investigated it.
It seems very fortuitous for the Marine and his family, that before Janelle could file charges, something would occur to her that would render the charges irrelevant. I am not saying the family wished her dead. I am saying saying I bet they wished she would decide not to file charges. Could the Marine have lost his career? Could he have gone to jail? Could the family have suffered extreme embarrassment from just the allegations? I cant imagine the family dynamic that would have resulted from those allegations. And I believe Janelle was only 16 when this occurred. Would that have added to the crime, or to the penalty, or to the shame the family would have felt? From all the cases we, on this board, have read, people have been murdered for far less. These allegations had the potential to destroy their family. There are three things that you dont want to threaten a Marine. God, Country, and Family. I suppose only the Marine and Janelle knew the absolute truth, but that doesnt matter. Only the allegations matter. all that changes once the charges are filed, or once it goes to court, or once it is decided upon. At that particular moment in time, it was just the allegations.
But once she was dead the allegations were forgotten.
I have been wondering about this thought. What if Ear had only raped Janelle, and she had survived. What would that have done to the previous rape allegations? It is understandable why a young women might wait a year and a half after the fact to file charges, but can you imagine if she was raped again, and then tried to file the same charges? The world being what it is would likely not have believed it. I might guess that Janelle, if faced with another rape attempt, might fight back with every ounce of strength she had. I wonder if rapists consider that? And who did the Marine talk to about the allegations? We know he talked to men on the base, and somehow the OCDA's office knew about it as well. Was it because of the family connections to the OCDA's office? Or did the investigators, who also happened to be ex-military themselves and Sheriff's investigators, find out from a different source? All the while the IPD is not aware of the crime. Would those allegations have been nearly as convincing had she only been raped, and not murdered?
And what I have a hard time comprehending, is that the last known Earons crime is 5 years prior. And then he comes out and murders this young girl as she is considering file these charges. Unbeknownst to us at the time, Earons himself has 50 rapes and 10 murders to his credit. He probably had many strong opinions about women whom he raped coming back and filing charges. In his mind he might have thought he was doing this proud Marine a favor. Of course that is assuming Earons was aware of the allegations. But he was so meticulous in his research and preparation. Something piqued his interest in Janelle. And if it wasnt her looks or where she lived, was it the allegations? I have to believe it was the allegations. it worked out too perfectly for the Marine family. She never filed the charges. they were quickly forgotten about. And the family quietly left the state. But if Earons knew about the allegations, then it isnt likely in my opinion that it was from Janelle's family and friends. It would have been from the Marine family, their friends, the Marines the father talked to, and from the OCDA's office. Ear wasnt a normal guy. What type of bias would he add to that story? What would incite him to risk being caught after his 5 year hiatus, to commit a rape, or a rape and murder? I believe it is a given that Earons had little regard for women as equals or as humans. But if Earons had lived the prior 5 years pretending to be human, what could have motivated him to risk it simply to silence Janelle and her allegations of rape?
Another quick point that Michelle wrote about recently. The family in question lived very close to Manuela Witthuhn. And yet the Witthuhn crime scene was staged as a burglary. And then 5 years later Janelle is brutally murdered as a random rape and murder.
For many posters this topic is of little use. so many people want to start at the first ear crime and assume that ear was a young kid living and going to school nearby. I cant say that this topic negates those assumptions, but it would change our view of what he was then, by what he became. Plenty of young men join the armed forces, and for good or bad, are changed forever. But I dont think he would have been a drifter or transient. And its possible his connections to Sacramento are limited. Maybe living in a dorm room while on the GI Bill. Or still living on one of the nearby bases.
Who did the Marine talk to on the base? Who has access to his military assignments, not the locations per se, but duties and service groupings? Mather's=gun smuggling. Maverick Air=CIA and smuggling. El Toro=gun and drug smuggling. Kenji Gallo=drug smuggling. Who was in the Marine's work and social circles that could have been involved at Mathers also? And dont forget the Decal or what H/H did for a living. Or what Mr Y did for a living.
Why does no one mention the ex-military investigators who paid a visit to the Cruz family prior to Janelle's murder? Or their connection to Alan May and William Cassidy? (speaking of William Cassidy, here is a great link for his books. I dont know which one is better. Is it the one on knife fighting? Or the one on close quarter gun fighting? Or the one on political kidnapping? www.amazon.com/William-L.-Cassidy/e/B001KILJ60/ref=ntt_dp_epwbk_0 )
Why was the OCDA's office investigating it and not the IPD?
If the IPD was not aware of the allegations, and the OCDA was, why did they let the Marine leave the state without a DNA test?
Why didnt LE get involved when the Cruz family was receiving hang up calls when the DNA connection was revealed?
As for the reason I made this thread, I posted some of these ideas in the shoutbox the other day. And believe it or not I did it wrong. I misused the shoutbox! I decided to go ahead and heed Drifter's advice and make a thread for these ideas and questions. Since many of us who lived in Irvine know the name of the Marine and his family, I am hoping we can make it public and discuss it openly. If not here then maybe on the VIP board.LE doesnt seem to be the least bit interested since the DNA test and their refusal to consider anyone without a Sac address. Maybe we can speak about the OCDA investigators also. Especially the ones with military intelligence and water resources history.
