In my last post, "A Possible Connection Overlooked," I talked about attack 45 against the babysitter in Walnut Creek, California and how a pantless prowler in the vicinity was arrested. He lived in Pleasant Hills and was working as a janitor, allegedly "searching for his cat." The police discovered photographs of women in his car, one of which was a woman just leaving the car wash. Nine days later The East Area Rapist attacked his 46th victim in Danville, California. Hours prior to the assault, a woman checking a nearby vacant residence found a car wash ticket in the driveway. It had not been there the day before. Though it may not have any connection to the car wash where the woman was photographed, it was still an interesting connection.
On June 25, 1979, The East Area Rapist returned to Walnut Creek, California and attacked another young teenager. Moreover, this attack was more unusual than his typical attacks. Furthermore, there is some intriguing details worth noting. In terms of the aftermath of the sexual assault, officer Judy Robb of Contra Costa Search and Rescue arrived at the crime scene. Along with her were bloodhound's that were at the last Walnut Creek attack on June 2, 1979 (attack 45 - pantless prowler). Interestingly enough, the dogs tracked the perpetrator's scent to the exact location weeks prior after the attack; a nearby residence where a pool was being constructed.
My question is -- since the pantless prowler is still unidentified (to us), and he was apprehended in the vicinity of where the crime scene took place on June 2, 1979, I'm curious as to how far he was arrested from the victim's home and this residence where a pool was being built. Also, the vacant home where the woman found the car wash ticket was located northwest on the same street of where the attack on the babysitter occurred. We do know that The East Area Rapist did frequent vacant homes on occasion -- specifically detailed in the Dr. Robert Offerman and Dr. Debra Manning murder(s).
Here is another interesting piece of information. The victim(s) in attack 45, 46, and 47 all had connections in some formality with Alpha Beta Market. The latest attack (victim 47 -- a thirteen year old girl), the victim was at the mall doing some shopping at approximately 8:00 p.m. She told the authorities nothing seemed out of the ordinary while she was there, so this coincidence may or may not be of any relevance. Years later when the thirteen year old was forty-five, she gave an interview about her attack which you can read here - www.mercurynews.com/2011/07/17/walnut-creek-teen-rape-survivor-recalls-crime-communitys-help/.
In terms of descriptions given by each victim, I'll describe them here. My goal is to ultimately find if these descriptions match the pantless prowler in some capacity.
Victim 45 - The rapist was a slender white male and his height was between 5'6 - 5'8. He was wearing a white mask.
The victim had been stalked for a month prior to her attack. During the month of May, the mother notified police reporting someone had broken into their home and had stolen a nightgown and address book. Furthermore, the family in general was receiving prank phone calls. The daughter was also getting these phone calls at various places she babysat.
Another side note to mention is a possible aftermath case of stalking. After the babysitter was assaulted, the mother began seeing a strange man driving a maroon colored El Camino slowly down her street numerous times. She tried confronting him at one point but he was able to speed off before any confrontation could surmise. He wasn't seen in the area after that event, but her daughter started getting more prank phone calls, and her mother began receiving them as well at her place of employment, where she worked in an office for a private doctor.
Victim 46 - The rapist was approximately 20 - 30 years of age, stocky, and between 5'5 - 5'9 in height. His hair was soft and light-brown, and his hands were small and felt soft. Shoe impressions in the victim's yard concluded the shoe model was a size 9 1/2 Adidas Tobacco.
After this assault that occurred between 4:00 a.m. - 4:45 a.m., a nearby neighbor leaving home for work witnessed a dark blue-green van that appeared to be three or five years old. He couldn't make out an accurate make or model, but he guessed it was a Chevrolet. I think it's worth mentioning that these vehicles may have not belonged to The East Area Rapist, let alone driven by him. However, I think it's worth bringing up because of the unknown (to us) vehicle the pantless prowler was driving.
Victim 47 - The rapist was roughly 6'0 tall and between the ages of 25 - 30. He had broad shoulders and seemed physically built. She detected a Mexican accent, but it seemed fake due to how he pronounced his "R's." He was wearing Adidas running -- possibly swimming -- shorts and a (white?) mask appearing to be made from a cheesecloth.
I would also like to bring up attack 48. This was the event where The East Area Rapist was caught off guard in Danville, California, and ran off by the husband. The husband went under hypnosis sometime after the botched attack and described the intruder as a white male in his twenties. His body frame was that of a football player due to his broad shoulders. His height was between 5'10 - 6'0 and his weight was approximately 160 pounds. His eyelashes were full and had a thin nose. He didn't appear to have facial hair and his eye color was light, possibly hazel. Keep in mind, the perpetrator was wearing a mask, so this is only coming from his recollection based on the eye-slits of the mask and outline of his face through the mask. He was also wearing a blue nylon or vinyl windbreaker. On the upper left breast of the jacket a word was spelled across in block lettering starting with a "C," but the word couldn't be identified. However, at least four letters were made out and they were all colored white. Some have speculated the word being "Coors," "Couch," "Corn," and so forth. Could it possibly have been a janitor jacket or coat?
---
I'm rational enough to believe the authorities made note of what the pantless prowler was wearing -- shirt, shoes, and so forth. I'm also aware that the perpetrator's hair and body frame was more than likely noted. I'm curious to learn if any of the descriptions and shoe size were similar. Now, one thing can be said, since the pantless prowler was an apparent janitor, I'm assuming his clothing would be that of your typical janitor. Did he have a change of clothes in his car? What kind of body frame did he have? What kind of vehicle was he driving?
P.S. I understand that this "possible" connection may be worthless. I'm simply attempting to put the puzzle pieces together. They may not fit and if they don't, that's something I can easily accept. Hopefully something can shake loose from this information, however.
