Long story short: My grandparents separated in 1967 or 1968. My grandfather has been dead 42 years. He lived with a girlfriend from 1967 through at least September 1972 if not into early 1973.
I have:
1) His address from this period
2) A (poor quality) video of the girlfriend
3) The name of the company he worked for in this period.
Problems:
1) I went to the library where the white pages for this time period are held, year by year. Just to be sure, I cross-referenced dates where I knew where he lived for certain (IE when my grandparents were still together) and sure enough, in every white pages listing up to 1967 he was listed by name and address. I checked the 1972-1973 white pages; he's not listed. I haven't figured out how to use the 'criss cross directory). I haven't checked the 1969-1970, or 1971-1972 White Pages yet. Those are only other ones which would account for the time period in question; I have a sinking feeling he won't be listed in 1969-1970 or 1971-1972 either.
2) His address for this period was an illegal basement apartment. The original owner of the building in which he lived is now deceased. This dampens my hope that he and his girlfriend might show up in cross-cross directories of this period, since, again, the apartment was an illegal one.
3) A video doesn't help me put a name to a face
4) The company he worked for - which he worked for consistently from 1966 through 1973 - was a relatively small security firm which went out of business in 1996.
I have to believe that there is something, somewhere, that will lead me to the name of his girlfriend. If she is alive, I just want to ask questions and get any remaining photos or videos she may have. I cannot help but think that someone who lived, and worked, all the way up to the mid 1970s, whose name, social security number, address, and phone number I have for the period in question, can simply vanish. There has to be some way to determine her identity - Can you guys help me?
