And if we are no longer doing POI discussion, I understand if mods remove this thread.
You did a great job with this post. Awesome work, thank you!
POI discussions are fine as long as no personally identifying information is posted. I feel that the best way to communicate which POI we're talking about is to come up with pseudonyms for them. For instance, in this case, we could call the POI the "Navigator." Then down the road, in some master POI post, we could assemble the details of the "Navigator" and keep people updated on clearance status.
Things that can be posted:
- Which schools the POI went to
- Which cities he lived in and when
- The year he was born or his age at the time of the crimes
- The type of company he worked for, the industry he worked in, what he might've done in the military
- Details of any arrests aside from names, dates, and street names
- What friends and family said about his personality
- Whether he was married or not, the years he was married, if he had children
- If he's dead and the year he died
Things that cannot be posted:
- Pictures or links to pictures.
- Any names of the POI or names of anyone associated with him
- Any streets he lived on (the city or even neighborhood is fine)
- Birthdates (the year is fine)
- The actual names of companies he worked for if the company was small or medium-sized. If he worked for Aerojet, worked at Mather, or something like that it's fine to post
- Actual arrest dates (the year, type of offense, and any time served is fine)
- Direct quotes from pages (including facebook pages) that contain personal details of the POI
A few other rules/guidelines:
- Linking to any websites or resources that do contain information that we don't allow posted here isn't allowed either.
- Do not reach out to the POI, the family, business associates, or friends of the POI. If a POI is the EAR, just imagine the damage you could be doing to the investigation, or the trauma you're putting the family through (who is likely innocent despite what their relative did or didn't do).
These rules do not exist to infringe on your enjoyment, they exist because considering someone as a serial killer is serious business with real-world implications, not fun and games. There are hundreds of viable POIs, but there is only one EAR/GSK.
We usually don't have any issues, but it probably helps to make these things clear in black and white. Thanks for respecting the privacy of presumably innocent persons.
