I was studying the maps I created where the routes led from Alpha stores directly to EAR attack address, showing it being only one road straight ahead, and one quick turn to a victim’s house. Previously, I created maps for all the attacks that occurred only in pairs, where the EAR hit only twice in areas outside Sac. I hadn't done maps for Sac/Rancho Cordova, Carmichael.
After the attacks left the cluster area near Malaga & Paseo, there was a lapse between attacks in Rancho Cordova and another Rancho Cordova attack, which was the last one ever taking place in Rancho Cordova. I believe the EAR lived right around Malaga & Paseo. After things got to heated, the EAR didn't want to attack near home anymore, so instead of heading home after work, then going out to attack, he decided to attack first (right after work), then go home. I theorized he worked at the Alpha Beta near his home. There was only one Alpha in Rancho Cordova in the seventies. I googled directions from that Alpha Beta store, to the address of attack #43. I was surprised!!! Once again, it was one straight road and one quick turn. Theory of course: the EAR may have parked in the lot at the rear of the house. If you google directions for the route you will see this. The Alpha Beta store was on 2810 Zinfande, Rancho Cordova, to Filmore Lane, Rancho Cordova. Perhaps on that day the EAR rode his bike to work to Alpha Beta. After work, he rode his bike to Filmore Lane. He may have pulled into the parking area right behind the residence. Perhaps on that day the EAR rode his bike to work, then after work rode it to the attack site, then rode his bike home to somewhere near Malaga & Paseo.
I theorized he may have rode his bike for the following reason. No attacks were happening near the cluster, near home. The others took place in areas farther away, which meant he was driving. If he wanted to keep attacks far from home but in this instance he did not, it may have been because he could not drive. He had no vehicle. So he had to bike ride.
The EAR may have been an Alpha employee on a night crew, who for some reason, worked at a variety of Alpha Beta sites. I've been researching ALOT about Alpha. Alpha hired people part-time, and management preferred to schedule men for night shifts because Corporate wanted women to be home with their families. Frequently, Alpha Beta hired people specifically to work for several stores, not just at one. Alpha managers also frequently loaned out their employees to other managers when those manager’s stores experienced shortfalls. I also read that the union filed a grievance for some of its members. Some members had been waiting for many years (one guy had been working part-time for 9 years) to be given more hours, and regular schedules. Alpha didn't want to give people full-time schedules because it would have been less flexible for store manager's. There were also “schedule blocks” managers used. I believe one of the night crew shifts was 5pm-11:30pm. I definitely recall the end time was 11:30pm but I'm not absolutely certain about the start time. I'll have to look at the docs again.
I don't think the EAR would have been a delivery guy because they would be getting off work at the same location they started their day, at the warehouse or at one particular site. Maybe not cashiers or baggers, because in the seventies the Alpha stores closed around 8-9pm. Unless the cashiers stayed to stock items. Not a janitor, because they weren't floated to different stores. Not department managers or store managers because they stayed at the same store. Not security guards, because they only worked when customers were there. And perhaps not a district manager, because he most likely visited the stores during the day. I doubt he would drive from his home all the way to a distant store and park, then go prowling. It would have had to be a guy working a night shift.
With this theory there are these facts: One FACT is that 3 victims from Nor Cal and 1 victim in So Cal have Alpha Beta in common. It's a FACT that EAR attacks occurred in neighborhoods that had an (had only one) Alpha Beta store. It is a FACT that the routes between those Alpha Beta stores and the attack sites nearby, were only one street and one turn away. Sometimes, right before reaching the attack address, there is mini park or greenery walkway between a parking area and the attack address.
I theorize that the EAR used a Lineman's butt tester device to get phone numbers. It was dark, he just went from house to house pulling up numbers. It takes less than one minute to do. Those devices are so easy to use. Just clip it to the phone line on the side of the house (the clip looks like a tiny version of the prongs used to charge car batteries that has one black and one red, that clips on to the positive and negative part of the car battery. The phone-line butt testers only have one tiny prong, of course. Clip it to the line, look at the screen, and the phone number is right in front of your eyes.
