DeBardeleben was never charged with any of the murders that his is suspected of committing. He got a 375 year federal sentence for counterfeiting, kidnap and assault.
When the Secret Service finally was able to track him down and arrest him for passing fake $20 bills, they found a couple of rented storage spaces that contained not only evidence of his counterfeiting operation but also boxes of sadistic home porn. The FBI elected not to pursue the case but the Secret Service agents were so compelled by the tape recordings of tortured women that they researched and identified a number of women who had been kidnapped and sadistically tortured by the law enforcement impersonating DeBardeleben.
DeBardeleben wrote detailed notes outlining the activities needed to complete his kidnappings. He had his victims repeat scripted text which he recorded. He also wore disguises and practiced acting in preparation for his assaults.
The scope of his crimes is not understood. He died in prison in 2011 and never provided details about the attacks he committed. He acquired his first felony arrest at age 16.
Ever hear the recordings? Super creepy. He's one of the worst serial killers ever. He was a sadistic torture murderer. The counterfeit operation was used to fund what LE suspected would be a murder house he wanted to build. He was well on his way to becoming even worse.
nowhereman: If you didn't see Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey on Netflix...yikes. I was aware of most of that stuff but when it's all explained chronologically in great detail holy cow. Those FLDS people are out there.

sammyt: After the new 12-26-75 book, perhaps it's time for a similar investigation into the CPK crimes. Seems like there were a lot of dirty police chiefs around back in the day...

kg: Thanks SammyT. I have to give credit to SammyT for the fact that I am still plugging away on Coe. If it were not for his candid feedback and encouragement I am sure I may have landed in the looney bin a long time ago but most likely I would have quit.
