I made a few maps in Google Earth. It started out as a personal thing, just to keep track of all the locations and crimes, but maybe you or someone new to the case finds them useful. The information comes from Kat Winters' great book "Case Files of the East Area Rapist/GSK", Hunting a Psychopath and this forum right here.
You will need the desktop version of Google Earth (not sure about tablets), but once you get started it's very easy to navigate. I'll make a separate post within this thread on how to use GE.
Otis EARONSGSK Base Map is the foundation for all the other maps, where I only have put in "official" attacks starting from #1 and going up to #55/GSK7. They are sorted numerically and chronologically as they are in the book.
Then the other maps makes up for the rest. I chose this route for user friendliness, as these maps can be bombarded with text and info if you collect everything on one map.
The addresses used are as they are described in the books. That means that most markers will be on the correct street, just not the exact house. We have official records for the murders, so those locations have exact addresses.
Release notes:
"EAR Phones Victims" is only scratching the surface when it comes to calls made by EAR. I only included the ones that stands out. A future project can maybe expand this more.
"EAR Cars and Vehicles", same as above. Hundreds of "suspicious" cars have been sighted, I have only included the ones with make and model and that seem more solid than the others.
"Goleta Incidents" and "The Goleta Chase" are separate as I wanted to test the playback feature in GE. The chase in Goleta is also so dramatic that it warranted it's own map.
"Unconfirmed EAR Incidents" contains the Maggiore Murders. The community seems a bit divided on this and we can put in the base map folder if anything new comes to light.
"EAR Descriptions" is made to point out the varying witness statements. I don't interpret one way or another, it's just a part of this case that he might from Japan, you know?
"Bloodhound Trails" is somewhat off. As I don't have the exact address the scent dog started from, we can only roughly say. Where it ends is for the most part very well documented. Also here you can play back the trails, as in the chase.
Otis EARONSGSK Base Map.kmz (14.62 KB)Goleta Incidents.kmz (4.43 KB)EAR Sightings and other suspicious individuals.kmz (4.33 KB)EAR Phones Victims.kmz (3.66 KB)EAR Descriptions.kmz (6.89 KB)EAR Cars and Vehicles.kmz (4.31 KB)Bloodhound trails.kmz (4.81 KB)
