Hi all, I've been following and fascinated in this case for about ten years now (I saw that I registered a separate account on this forum about three years back, which I never posted with), but recent work I've been doing has made me realize that if the circumstances are right, I have a very good chance of identifying EAR using methods the police simply can't for legal reasons. Briefly, I've become the local go-to guy for adoptees who are interested in identifying their biological parents. My first 'case' was that of my father- as a surprise to him, I used my own DNA to identify his biological parents, and I've done the same for 4 other adoptees, some of whom were very difficult- but I've been successful in every case but one, where I was only able to identify the biological mother (who became pregnant during a one night stand by a man who probably has a pretty small family or one stuck in generational poverty). I first planned to get in contact with the police agencies to utilize the same methods I use in the adoption cases, but soon realized that such investigation couldn't (thankfully) legally be used by police due to 4th amendment issues. HOWEVER, there is a caveat.
If EAR had impregnated any of his victims, and the pregnancy was carried to term, and that individual is willing to accept something unbelievably hard to swallow about themselves, I have a very good shot at IDing EAR/ONS in a way that shouldn't present any logistical or legal problems.I'd really like to know if any investigative followup had been done with victims to see if there were any pregnancies that could be attributed to the rape. In 1978, I'd guess that this information wouldn't have been seen as being potentially useful. It certainly would be useful today, and I'd love to help nail this guy if I could be helpful. And if it turns out that there was one person who was impregnated by the rapist and for whatever moral or religious reasons carried the child to term, I'm confident that I could either identify the rapist myself, or provide enough information that the true experts of the crime could tie biological relatives to the guy and get his DNA. I'm planning on calling the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department in the next couple days to offer my assistance to them personally, but if anyone on this board has information that might help me out before I make that step, please let me know.
Thanks in advance!
