This is just my personal theory.
I have read that in many cases, when deranged criminals offend women and men, particularly women, they are either fulfilling a fantasy or reliving something/s that happened to them that they derived feelings from, and they try to recapture (re-feel) those feelings, or replay the incident. Their unfortunate victims are actually surrogates of the actual people the criminal would like to commit the acts on.
From what I have learned, a psychopath is incapable of feelings. So this theory would apply to a sociopath, because unlike psychopaths, the sociopath's are capable of some feelings, until the time they completely crack and turn into full-blown psychopaths. Apparently, psychopaths are born the way they are, whereas sociopaths become exactly like psychopaths somewhere along the way.
Maybe when the EAR was still a child, whenever he spent memorable time with his mother in her room (watching t.v., chatting, doing his homework in her room while she slept ...) and then she sent him on his way to go to bed, she would tell him to grab whatever change was on her dresser on his way out. If that happened a lot, he may have been trying to recapture those times - by hanging out in a women's bedroom while she slept, then on his way out he'd grab spare change from her dresser.
OR
That scenario up there may have been a fantasy he tried to create when he stayed inside a bedroom of a women he tied up, then on his way out, in his delusion, she told him "why don't you fix yourself something to eat", and later, "grab some change on your way out".
If the guy is a sociopath, he may have married a woman who put up with him. At the same time, he may have landed a job as a manager or supervisor, or in law enforcement, or some type of job where he had control over other people. Having a woman in his life without having to tie her up, and having a job where he was in a position of control and authority, could quite possibly be the reasons he was able to stop attacking.
