I’m following different lines of theory. All are a work in progress. I hope we have some experts in the fields that can chime in.
1. He was a Caltrans worker. Caltrans was formed in the early 70s. With all the new housing, the freeways needed upgrading too. They were also upgrading to better asphalt at that time. It would explain the attacks being near the freeways. Caltrans has several districts. I'm requesting records from several districts. Will post findings.
2. He drove an asphalt, concrete, aggregate, truck (maybe for Caltrans). Again this would explain the construction, freeways, and how he seems to be always on the move. My research has led me to look up quarry sites in CA in the 70s. There is an absence of quarries in LA. This may explain the move from Goleta to Irvine, Dana Point. Milling, is it a reference to pavement milling? Milling is a noun, verb, and adjective in this industry.
3. The SDA theory. Summer camps appear to be in cities or neighboring cities to the attacks. With a strong presence in Sac. They also had a lot of male elementary school teachers including in the 60s and 70s. I’ve started to track the movements from the 60s to the 80s. Did they keep a log of addresses they hit up like JWs? I haven’t been able to confirm.
4. I’m using old white pages and websites to compile a street by street listing of areas of interest. My current location is near Heritage Plaza where Janelle worked and where Manuela’s parents lived. They are very close to each to other. Closer than their homes. I wonder if he lived near there or helped build the plaza or Culver Blvd. on/off ramp. Anyone have first hand knowledge of the construction in area?
5. The fringes and random stuff –
a. SB Genealogical society sbgen.org/cpage.php?pt=132
b. Anthony Shore’s mom worked at Denny’s
(www.houstonpress.com/news/the-killer-next-door-6575828) – same Denny’s as EAR victim that received call?
c. Johnny Cash – I had to google him. “At Folsom Prison” came up. Could it explain the odd man singing “I Walk the Line” at the hospital? Was EAR a prisoner in Folsom in 68? The lyrics are eerie.
d. Mixed-laterality, cross-dominance, - was he right or lefty. I think he was neither. He was cross -dominant. Think of a baseball player that throws right handed but bats lefty. This is not the same as ambidextrous. Being cross dominant can cause learning disorders and emotional issues. The stuttering, the “Mad” letter, are examples of learning disorders. Or he was a lefty. Studies show they are more likely to be crazy or geniuses.
e. Has anyone reached out to retirement/old people homes in Sacramento, SB or Irvine? Maybe they'll help spread the word. We need someone more official to do it though. Maybe LE can help. Can someone with connections make that suggestion please.
