Cool info. I am not sure that these "Haskells" would be in any way connected to the Haskell locals as I am not even sure about the spelling. My dad was born in '57 and I still have to get the years he lived in Goleta down. I do know that it was well before EARONS committed the murders. When we looked at the map of the area on Google he verified that the Queen Anne area had not been built yet, neither had the condos. He did seemed to think he remembers the homes and area of Toltec Way existing at that time though. If nothing else it was weird to think my dad played with other kids in a creek that would several years down the road serve as a conduit for EARONS. I also want to ask him when we have a chance to talk about the "underbelly" of the area when he lived there. Sounds like a lot was happening within the various young social circles & groups around the area during the time of the murders. Crazy.

Submarine, I looked in the 1962-63 Santa Barbara Polk Directory that I own. There were six listings for the Haskell family in the whole SB area, with one of them being in Goleta. The Goleta listing was for Harry and Betty Haskell, who lived on Butte Drive, which is in the El Encanto Heights area, and is a mile or two away from the Toltec way area. Harry Haskell worked as a machinist.

The SB library has a complete set of Polk Directories; I'll check a early '70s directory the next time I'm there. (Arghh..I am off on 6/9 and 6/10 from work, but the downtown SB library is closed for remodeling those days.)

Interesting. Yeah, my dad lived on Cambridge Dr. And since it was nearly 12 years later the murders occurred his perspective is fairly limited to interesting memories about what the land around Mountain View H.S. was like prior to it being built and the state of other areas nearby. He mentioned that before they moved away the building of Queen Anne Lane and the completion of Cathedral Oaks over the San Jose Creek. However, he did mention that my uncle who was several years older than he while they lived there ran with a much tougher crowd. He also returned by himself to live in Goleta years later much closer to the time of the murders. Additionally, my dad's co-worker also lived in Goleta around 1980, don't know how long, but I mentioned to him he might bring up the name of EARONS or "creek killer" and see if it rang some bells in his memory. Whether right or wrong it always seems like you can't assume folks are going to be aware of or remember names or events simply because they lived in the area at the time they occurred. Course I get wondrous over whether EARONS had connections that placed him in Goleta for a substantial time prior to the murders (year(s))? Dunno, part of me thinks he wouldn't have been able to live in the place long without indulging his evil desires.

Plus-one to this. Even someone born in the late 50s would be 60 or close to it now. That'd make them 40ish by the time the Internet really got up and running, 50 by the time "everybody" was on it. It's quite possible someone out there knows something, but by not being online, doesn't know A) the current lingo being used, B) the connections between EAR and ONS and possibly the VS, and B) that there is an ever-growing interest and lots of new leads in the case and boards like this one. The renewed announcement by LE in a week or two, especially via channels that *aren't* the 'net, can only help, IMHO.

Elkhounds look nothing like Shepherds, they are much shorter and stouter,they have a much longer coat...you should look at the breed standards for comparison and/or look at some pics side by side.

The face is similar. Like I said, some people could definitely mistake that dog for a German Shepherd.

Hello all. I do not want to be the devils advocate here BUT I went through goletagurus' posts from start to finish on this thread. With all do respect there is nothing in here that could not have been made up simply by looking at google maps both in satellite and normal map modes. The way he explains how the creeks connected with each other, which one led to which simply out of memory from young adulthood is merely impossible unless this gentleman has superb photographic memory. The confusion about distance units is also strange.In his first post he uses the metric system and after being grilled he switches back to yards. Now that is understandable since Australia switched from imperial to metric during the 70s. But howcome he changes to yards after being questioned on him using non-american english. Still doesnt make sense. He says he grew up in the States so he should be using the imperial system regardless of where he lives now. My grandmother is 93 and she was educated in a British school. For 32 years she worked for the US embassy and lived among americans BUT STILL she spells words in British english and she has been living in Turkey for 4 decades (which uses the metric system) but uses the imperial system.

The bike rides he had with his friends can also be made up by simply looking through the social atmosphere at the time on the internet. What bothers me the most is the extremely detailed memories this individual has. Yes we all had traumatic experiences about events in our past (I still remember how i felt during Oklahoma City, nine eleven, Reina attacks of 2017) but having such clear memories dating back decades as if they happened yesterday puzzles me.

And the biggest red flag is the eye color issue. In one post he says "I am sure he had blue eyes and dirty blonde hair," then when asked about how he could identify someones' eye color at 11 pm he responds "well like i said i said he resembled my friend, am i absolutely positive of his eye colour -- no."

Im sure goletaguru hates me now but he and everybody has to understand and remember that this forum has been subject to many similar situations and in the end a lot of people were fooled and false hopes were raised. I took internships at various LE agencies during my time in the States and this is a sort of story that my lecturers would call "written in such detail and efficiency its too good to be true". And the fact that he gets angry whenever someone asks him tough questions is apparent from his fake "colonial" reaction to the usage of old english. I am sorry to say I think he is just a troll who read through the ONS/EAR info on the net for a couple of days, looked at the creek roads on google maps or google earth and came up with his bogus childhood story. What really saddens me is how people take pleasure in claiming to have met infamous sick monsters like ONS/EAR. This in my book is no different to the groupies Ted Bundy or Richard Ramirez had in their trials...

If you hadn't yet heard about the Offerman murders what would make you suspicious about that car? Did you know the Offermans didn't own that type of car or was it just a sense of something not right about it? Just curious, I'm not trying to quell your story as is sounds like you did come across him.

CB, I respectfully disagree with your belief that GoletaGuru is not from SB/Goleta, and is simply using Internet references. I have lived in the SB/Goleta area since 1973. I've looked at all of GoletaGuru's 137 postings, and they have a lot of accurate local trivia from the 1970s and 1980s. In one he writes "there was a barn on north patterson that doubled as a pumpkin patch and christmas tree farm before the area was developed further". The Christmas tree farm on north Patterson has been gone for many years, and is not a fact easily found on Internet.

Regarding his use of Aussie expressions and using the metric system, I've known foreign-born people who moved to the US and quickly picked up American units of measure and slang.
