As the Walthers and their friends made trips from the house to the truck they were loading their stuff in to move, "Sunny Walther" noticed a late model cream colored Toyota Celica drive into the court. She watched the car drive slowly around the court and as it approached her yard, it was going so slow that she thought it was going to stop. She didn't get a look at the driver as the car left the court. (Victim statement: This person was later identified and cleared by LE. He claimed he was searching for houses, and two family members backed him up.)
10-26-78, Evening, Montclaire Place, San Ramon
A 12-year old girl who lived next door to the Walthers noticed a small cream colored car with black louvers over the rear window drive into the court. Although it wasn't quite dark outside, the vehicle had its high beams on illuminating the end of the court. The girl sat in the shadows of her porch and watched the car, which had stopped at the entrance of the court, for about two minutes. The car made a U-turn and left traveling east on Springdale Lane. Approximately ten minutes later it returned, again stopped at the entrance of the court for approximately two minutes, backed out and left west on Springdale. The car, which was in need of a washing, looked like a Toyota Celica and was driven by a white male with dark hair, styled into a pageboy with short bangs. (Victim statement: This person was later identified and cleared by LE. He claimed he was searching for houses, and two family members backed him up.)

She described the vehicle she had seen drive through her court the day they were moving as a Toyota Celica, cream color with shiny hubcaps and two red stripes down the side. (HAP: The license plate was registered to a 1973 Chevrolet Vega that was junked on 10/14/1977 at Castille Auto Parts in Windsor, CA. Junked cars were kept in a semi-secure location that was protected by guard dogs. Only two people were allowed to remove plates, and the owner was one of them.)
I know it says the driver was cleared but does no one else find it strange that he'd go to the same court two days/nights in a row? The behaviour while there is highly suspicious too. If all that was clearing him was family members verifying his story then I think that he should have remained a POI. Especially with some LE stating that they believe people out there know about him and have covered for him. I wonder if they still have his name?
And of course the plate belonging to a Chevrolet Vega is interesting given that car has popped up before with the EAR.
