Why did he attack significantly more often on Saturday, and only once on Sunday?

And when I broke it down further by the Sacramento area attacks: (33 total)

Thurs 3 (9%)
Fri 6 (18%)
Sat 11 (33%)
Sun 1 (3%)

vs. the attacks that occurred when he ventured south: (16 total)

Mon 4 (25%)
Tues 1 (6%)
Wed 1 (6%)
Thurs 1 (6%)
Fri 2 (12%)
Sat 7 (44%)
Sun 0 (0%)

Maybe all of this means nothing, but I thought I'd share just in case it might spark something for those of you with more experience investigating this case.

Really interesting, thanks. Sunday jumped out at me right away, but then Wednesday also being universally 2nd across all regions. Don't most churches usually have their midweek masses on Wednesday? I can't think of anything else that meets Sunday and Wednesday.

That's a good point. Is this consistent across all/most religions or only certain ones?

I also thought because he was so prolific and prowled a lot at night, that maybe he really was on the young side and when people said he had "deep-set" eyes, it was literally because he had bags under his eyes from being tired.

I didn't pick up that someone had been living in it just that someone had "camped out" in it. Mr. Haskell mentions something like a milk crate being in there.

But how do those dates account for the fact that attacks happened around midnight and early am hours? An attack at 2 am Sunday I would consider a "Saturday" attack.

Really it should be measured by "night" of the day before.

That's a good point. I didn't think of that. I will sit down and work it out when I have time.

i agree with morph's conclusions in the first 2 posts. Also, there is a 'blank space" of activity between june 1977 and Sep 8. When he hit near Stockton. So what was happening then? Attacks after that time also seem more brutal, more likely to be murders.

I really think it is important that we don't inadvertently go down the road leading into group think, and end up having tunnel vision in this case. He could of been unemployed, or could of been a professor or doctor, etc... Hell, he could of been a frickin' astronaut for all we know. Anything is possible.

The problem with so much speculation taking place, is that it can perceived as FACT, which it is clearly not.

I love watching old Dragnet reruns, and enjoy the "Just the facts, ma'am" mentality presented. I think it is good to remember while posting on this board.

Disability from military? GI bill?

Maybe Graduates from high school end of the 60s- short military stint then local college classes?

I think he sat there watching for hours at a time, so sitting down on a crate would be easier

Not trying to lead anybody down any roads, I just think it's very clear that his criminal & terrorizing activity took up so much time, when you add sleep to the mix-even 6 hrs a day, it seems hard to have had a full time 9-5 schedule

He would often steal hundreds of dollars and occasionally even thousands from a scene. Some victims felt he was there to steal anything valuable that wasn't nailed down, whereas other victims felt he didn't care so much. Money is worth about 350% more today than it was back then, so it was a decent amount that he was lifting when added together. Probably not enough to live off of unless he had additional income or was more of a transient than most folks suspect.

Interesting theory. This is along similar lines of why I think he liked blue chip stamps (yes I think he was also the VR). People wonder why VR would leave cash but take those stamps. I'm not an expert on how the stamp system worked but I wonder if he was paranoid of stolen cash being traced back to him or his victims, and maybe the stamps were just traded straight up with no record of who originally received or redeemed them.

I learned from the latest SCSD info release and way more from Morf' s podcast with Det Clark (Morf your podcasts are just Awesome btw! I have learned so much from them) that one theory is that the EAR injured himself while making his exit from the late May rape off of 4th Pkwy.  It's further theorized that he may have sought treatment for his injured shoulder at American River Hospital two days later but boogied when staff became suspicious of him.

Hi Morph,

The problem with the prowling, lurking, phone calls, and basically terrorizing aspect of this case, is that we don't know with absolute certainty that it was the EAR/ONS in all reported incidents.

This is where I really get concerned that we are presenting a false picture of a madman that was everywhere at all times.

There were so many rapists, prowlers, prank phone callers, and murderers in the 1970's, and in Sacramento alone, that some of the crimes could of been mistakenly attributed to the EAR/ONS.

Of course, I am not speaking of the crimes that were directly associated with the EAR/ONS by his DNA.

Groupthink is potential problem in any organization. I think Drifter does an outstanding job of ensuring that this board does not engage in such perilous endeavors.
