Hi all,
As a lifelong true-crime fanatic, I stumbled across this case about 3 months ago and I must say, on a scale of 1-10 of intrigue, weirdness, injustice and just exasperation that this person hasn't been caught.... it's a full 10.
I'm amazed, with more famous cases having myriad books and online forums dedicated to them, that, comparatively this case is much less known worldwide. ( I'm from the UK ).
I think, like virtually everybody on this forum, I've got the bug - an insatiable desire to watch and read everything connected to the case.
With all the obfuscation this character created and the passage of time, it'll only be DNA that'll find him out, but having not come on any DNA radar since DNA was widely used it may well be a struggle to even find him through that method.
My 2 cents, for what it's worth, is that, as has been previously suggested, he does have a Euro/Germanic ancestry, and I also think he was either adopted, or married and took his partner's name, or somehow has effected some sort of identity change, coupled with tactical geographic movements, to muddy the waters in the years since he went "quiet"
I don't invest Moriarty-esque levels of intelligence in this character, I just think he was very lucky, in an age where he operated in different LE areas, that weren't effectively sharing intelligence, got exceedingly lucky in destruction of evidence with the US SOL parameters and just got aware that his style of operation was in the past with new technologies, and his self-preservation kicked in.
Like many others, it'll be something boring like getting married that'll have stopped him. When you're young, self-focussed and weird you can indulge yourself in the weirdest perversions, but, like BTK, age, marriage ( or long term partnership ) and fear of being caught focussed his mind and he just stopped.
I think, if he's still alive, he'll be getting his kicks through violent internet pecadilloes, but still stalking. That's his thing. Fear.
Do I think he'll be caught? Yes, eventually, but I think it'll be after his death. There is something VERY different about him that fails to compute in the DNA analysis system we have. The confusion about the non-secretor status? His genealogy, family, adoptive status?
There's a reason he's hid in plain sight and I think when he's eventually identified, we'll collectively say " Ahh, of course, it's so obvious now... ". A missing link that's kept him from investigated seriously. He's definitely been on the periphery of investigation over the years, but something about him stops serious investigation.
Just my opinion. Fabulous forum. Thanks to all the super sleuths. But it's still "AAAARGH" frustrating for us all...
