Random "Excitement's Crave" reference?

I've been following this case for some time now. I don't post as often as I did a while back, mostly owing to there being plenty of extraneous "noise" and poster repetition around this case already, but I still follow intently, and will proffer my thoughts from time to time.

I’m also an educator (college). When I have time to burn between classes or appointments, I sometimes look for instances of phrases used in the “Excitement’s Crave” poem (as well as other EAR-attributed writings) in online searches, newspaper databases, and by using Lexis/Nexis-style academic search engines. You never know when something might get archived or uploaded, after all.

Anyway, it’s probably just a copycat or random occurence, but the only instance I’ve ever found of the phrase “Deserving Pest” (here "Your Deserving Pest," sort of a mashup of "Your East Area Rapist and Deserving Pest) -- outside of an EAR/ONS site or messageboard -- is on a Topic bulletin board post from back in 2010.

(The page's topic is homophobic in nature; the “Your Deserving Pest” post is at the bottom of the page and picture below. The site concerns Bandytown, West Virginia, but the poster is from Jacksonville, FL, it appears.)

What’s intriguing is the date: 2010. Keep in mind this is before the poem became common knowledge/discussed online. And indeed it's the earliest reference to "deserving pest" online if you search by page post date.

It’s an admittedly odd phrase I’ve never seen anywhere else, especially with the almost quaint "Your" thrown in there, as in the original Excitement's Crave poem. To boot, if it was an EAR reference (which would be odd given the timeframe and context) why make such a reference in a place where you're almost guaranteed nobody will know what the hell you're talking about?

There is probably no way to track the author of this, I’d imagine, but it stuck out to me enough that I thought it worth sending along anyway. To LE, and (later) to here. Admittedly, the chance that this is anything is exceedingly miniscule at best, but there's just something curious about it to me.

Wow what a bizarre thread. I wonder if the person calling himself BIGON and BIGGER ON is the same poster. Same strange use of capital letters. Looks like he's having a conversation with himself... Definitely worth digging deeper here to see if there are other similarities with EARONS!

That’s a really interesting find. After reading your post I started searching and really cannot find that phrase anywhere but Excitements Crave. I did come across a couple pages that mean nothing but were interesting nonetheless. First, while searching this phrase a page came up with sayings and one was “flea in the ear” which has a few meanings and I guess is more of a British phrase. Second was a page that was quite disparaging towards Jehova Witnesses but says they talk about non-Jehovas as pests. I doubt that’s true as I’ve known a few JW’s in my lifetime and they were really nice but I know religion has come up several times here.

Ah, I'm from Jacksonville and my mother is originally from WV. But I'm too young to be a suspect. 

There is a decent amount of people here from WV or with WV roots, mainly due to the large US Navy presence here.

I remember coming across that thread a while ago, maybe about a year ago. I fell down the rabbit hole of searching for the "JUST SAYING" person who posted that, and I think I remember discovering that there were multiple people from multiple cities with the username of "JUST SAYING". Of course, I can't find any of that info NOW, but I do remember searching for several days trying to follow that lead...

Because we can't click on the person's username, we can't verify if THAT just saying is the same as the original one that referenced "deserving pest." I do not think this one is fishy, it seems as though this person created a temporary account using the name "just saying" or they've deactivated their account. Either way, there are multiple users with variations of the name "just saying". The only one I think worth looking into is the original one that referenced "deserving pest." Other than that I think they're dead ends.

Geez. If that is actually EARONS, he has certainly mellowed out and found God. I'm guessing it is not him.

I wonder if Rudy Waltz would have any insight on who this person might be. Just Saying seemed to be implying that he/she was Rudy's particular "deserving pest."  It's hard to believe that two different people could pair that adjective with that noun. It doesn't even make sense.

Exactly. "Deserved pest" would make more sense. (Relatively speaking.) And the "fruity" bit does sound like something a 60+ year old with psychosexual issues might consider an insult. 

Rudy Waltz seems to be a *-stirrer who is (was?) on those boards a lot. But maybe he's still active? I would imagine he'd just chalk it up to a random troll, though. 

Since I'm grasping at straws here, there did use to be Fruity Rudy fruit-and-drink stands in CA in that time period (beginning in '74/'75), which may have logged into the poster's subconscious: www.caopendata.com/C0846925-fruity-rudy-s-incorporated

I am trying to decide if I want to send Rudy a message, but I'm not sure if I want to go there. It's unlikely if he even has any idea who that person is anyway. You do have to sign in and give your email address to send a message there, as here, but I suppose you can lie about that. My mind doesn't go in that direction, so I wouldn't know how to hide my identity. But I have always assumed that whoever owns these sites can give your i.p. address to the authorities if push comes to shove and they have a search warrant.

Unless the subject of the 'deserving' is the writer? He thinks that he deserves to do what he wants and take what he wants, to be a pest if he wants to. Not that the one being pestered is deserving of a pest.

Excellent use of jamais vu.   

And that makes some sense in the context of a letter's closing: "your deserving pest." Like "Your humble servant" or the like. Deserving here would imply he feels something is owed to him, that the series of crimes were more about revenge and power than about sex.
