Just looking up some facts about Bath, and noticed this article about a murder for hire bludgeoning. I found this part a bit humorous. Maybe DeAngelo will get to wear a shock belt and be prosecuted by while wearing a "shock belt". I suppose it didnt help that he was being prosecuted by Weeden Wetmore.
They said Beard brought it to their attention recently that his jailers forced him to wear a sort of shock belt that officers guarding him could have activated at any time during the trial. Neither the judge nor the prosecutor was aware that Beard was wearing the belt.
Clayton case: Anatomy of a murder
In imposing the sentence, Bradstreet said he watched Beard testify and said the presence of the belt didn't seem to impede his ability to tell his story.
Van Allen said he was disappointed but not surprised with the sentence.
"Obviously, it was a very difficult case on many levels," he said. "I can't say we were surprised by the sentence. We prepared our client to expect the worst."
The attorneys also filed a notice of appeal but said a different attorney would handle that.
Special prosecutor Weeden Wetmore, meanwhile, said he was pleased with the outcome.
"This was not a crime of passion. It was not spur of the moment. There was no prior conflict between Michael Beard and Kelley Clayton," Wetmore said. "This was a planned killing in anticipation that he would be paid money. It was a home invasion with two children in the home. He showed (Kelley) no mercy whatsoever. He left two children without their mother. This is one of the most heinous cases I've ever seen."
