This is retired Lieutenant Larry Crompton author of Sudden Terror and the man who knew in his gut that the East Area Rapist and The Original Night Stalker aka Golden State Killer were the same man. He is the retired detective, crime scene investigator, who worked the rape task force at one time in Contra Costa County as well. He worked his entire career in the pursuit of what was right and to bring criminals to justice. He embodies what is the best in Law Enforcement. He is my hero. Thank you Larry.
This book called Sudden Terror was written in 2010 by retired Lieutenant Larry Crompton. When there was virtually nothing going on with these cases and everything did seem to be a COLD case in every jurisdiction Larry Crompton had taken on the task of putting these cases down on paper so that they would not be forgotten. He took countless hours in retirement with his family to document and make the public aware that this man who had been connected to these many crimes was still out there. He told how the criminal had become a serial killer. He contacted a Criminalist in Contra Costa County about DNA evidence they had in 1999 and asked that they test it against other DNA in Southern CA. Larry Crompton had a gut feel that the East Area Rapist and The Original Night Stalker were the same man. He was correct. This book which I read after many years of PTSD and fear helped me to move through this experience. I called Larry in 2015 to tell him who I am. He has been and is the most wonderful open and supportive man to victims and families of victims. I cannot thank him and his wife Barbara enough for their time, their support and Larry's belief that this would be solved. I am so glad we are here to see it. I am forever in your debt Larry Crompton because of the fight, and the foresight and the dedication you have had to see this through. Larry is a man who does the right thing. Much love to the Crompton's in letting us borrow their Dad, Husband and Grandpa while he worked this case through until the perpetrator was arrested 5 days ago. Thank you Larry.
I wrote these tributes to Retired Detective Larry Crompton on Facebook and wanted to do the same thing here. Anne
